should i get this game?

right now i'm addicted to college hoops 2k8... i also have nba 2k10 and i'm lookin for a new football game to go to since madden and ea sports have lost my loyalties....

is this a good football simulation or more like an acrade type with all these superstars?

are all the players too skilled/talented? one thing i hate in games is when after a couple years of franchise/dynasty all the players have progressed way too far and all the teams are far better than they should be....

like to hear some pros and cons of this game thanks in advance...

I got it yesterday for $5, it's really fun but not arcade fun. You really have to pick the right play, like a chess match

It's not arcade at all. It's a fun simulation, fantastic animations but terrible graphics (think Xbox type graphics). All in all it was a game with merits but a real letdown after how good NFL2K5 was. I definitely think it's worth picking up cheap though.

Best playing is debateable but best looking, LOL, what game are you playing? The game has many great attributes but graphics aren't one of them. Frankly it looks between an xbox and an xbox 360 game.

Best playing is debatable, but APF2K8 always comes out on top.

I imagine he's referring to the animations. Madden looks great when paused in a replay, or when playing the replays real slow, but their rendering engine can't render the entire game fluidily even on the very slow setting included in Madden 10, thus the animations appear jittery / robotic. APF2K8's animations are extremely fluid, and thus the game when in motion is easily the best looking.

Honest story here. My parents once saw me playing APF2K8 and thought it was a real football game. I then showed them Madden, and they said there was no way they could mistake it for the real thing. It was too 'choppy'. My father even asked 'what happened to the commentary'? lol

It's the only playable football game on the market, EA Sports is just an abombination. This isn't real football, but it resembles it.

Yes, please do get the game. Valdarez is correct about what he said. APF 2K8 ahs it's problems - but it is still muucchh better than madden will probably ever be. I have a roommate who plays madden 2010 and it is actuallly much better than 2009. Yet, EA sports is like the pedophile grandfather that will try to get away with as much as he can and then when he is called on it, he thinks up excuses to lull you to sleep until he ****s you over the next time. True ....

As for all the hate on Madden in here, it's really uncalled for IMO, both games are good and do some things better than others. I didn't see where the OP asked for an opinion on Madden, in fact he said EA had lost his loyalty so he wasn't asking for a comparison. You guys should know that there is no reason to tear down one game just to make another look good. It's really very childish IMO.

You can't have a real comparision without a metric, and in video games the only real metric is how it stacks up v. it's competition. Nobody cares about making one look better, none of us are getting any money out of it, but, if somebody is looking around at games, we're going to steer them to what we enjoy the most (Most people will at least).

I enjoyed Madden for the first time in six years but sold '10 about a month ago. I've always owned NFL2K5 but the inability to throw the ball deep has always kept me from playing that game frequently.

I bought 2K8 over the summer but barely touched it, I finally spent some time the last two days playing it and I really, really enjoy it. It's better than 2K5 IMO (mostly because of the passing game) and the legends are fun. If you can get past the lack of real NFL teams then you should have a blast with this game.

I think the animations are much better in this game than Madden '10, they're more natural and flow together more smoothly than Madden which still feels like a bunch of animations changed together.

PS: Just won my first season game 23-14 against New York, thanks to Dan Marino and Barry Sanders. Marino had 250 passing yards in the first half but was shut down in the second half, just in time for Sanders to take over. Barry only had 26 yards in the first half but finished with 121 yards. Walter Payton was beasting for the CPU, he had one sick 15 yard TD run where he ran through a couple of my defenders.

think i'll probably pick this and 2k5 up... i can probably get them both for a combined 10 bucks or so right so i might as well get em lol... the hate on madden is definitely called for lol its not close to what football is in football you don't have 3 offensive lineman slide over to pancake 3 different defenders with exactly the same timing and motions lol... actually happens more in kickoff returns than on offense

You lol'd at the idea it's the better looking game, and then label others childish for espousing their views? If it's ok to say it's debatable whether it's the best looking this generation then is seems the only way you can debate whether it is the best looking football game is to have another game to compare it against right? To be 'the better looking game' you have to have another game to be better than. There's nothing wrong with making valid comparisons between the two games so users can have some idea of what to expect from a pro / con standpoint which was something the OP asked.

Wow. $4? I paid $60 on release day after going to 3 different places to find it. At roughly 1500 games, I easily got my $60 worth.
