Re: Pro Tips?
What type of defense are you trying to play?
Who are your legends and what do you have your generics set at?
A coverage bonus LB, or a quality coverage strong or free safety will help with the TEs.
If you are playing a zone heavy scheme, I would suggest at least one coverage bonus LB
Dave Wilcox is the best of the bunch. He's very fast and is strong in man and zone coverage plus he can play the run. He has few weaknesses.
Nick Buoniconti is the only coverage bonus MLB. He has wrap tackle attribute, and he has leadership bonus.
Joe Schmidt is good in zone coverage, and is very agile with the quick feet attribute. He's basically a gold Nick Bouniconti. He also has leadership bonus
Robert Braizle, John Anderson, and Brad Van Pelt are the bronze OLBs with coverage. Braizle is the fastest of the 3, in my opinion. Van Pelt being behind him, and the better tackler. John Anderson has coverage, and the loose ball magnet attribute, so he has the chance of getting INTs, off of deflections.
If you are playing a man scheme, you will need 2 strong corners, and a safety would be a better choice then a OLB, in most cases, in covering TEs.
Willie Wood, Leroy Butler, Eugene Robinson, Fred MArion, and Nolan Cromwell, are all coverage bonus safeties.
You will also need some pass rush bonus DLs to generate pressure.
I also like to have a leadership bonus defender as well, to help out the generics.
I'm playing a Tampa-2 style scheme, and my defensive setup right now is
DE: Gino Marchetti
DT: Leon Lett (subbed at 2nd DT spot, to put stress on the C and the RG)
MLB: Nick Buoniconti
OLB: Brad Van Pelt
FS: Nolan Cromwell
SS: Leroy Butler
Generic DL: Pass Rush
Generic CBs: Coverage
Generic Safeties: Coverage
Generic LB: Coverage
