Creating NFL teams with in-game legends...

Has anyone else tried this? It's far less time consuming and pretty fun. Just played a ATL/CAR game with the following rosters:

Carolina:
Jerry Rice (Steve Smith)
Barry Sanders (DeAngelo Williams)
Harry Carson (Jon Beason)
Karl Mecklenburg (Thomas Davis; put him at OLB)
Chuck Muncie (Jonathon Stewart)
Bubby Brister (Matt Moore)
Fred Marion (Charles Godfrey)
Nolan Cromwell (Richard Marshall)
Troy Drayton (Dante Rosario)
Eric Green (Jeff King)
Albert Lewis (Chris Gamble)

Atlanta:
Roger Staubach (Matt Ryan)
Mike Ditka (Tony Gonzalez)
Otis Anderson (Michael Turner)
John Jefferson (Roddy White)
Chris Doleman (Jon Abraham)
Terry McDaniel (Brent Grimes)
Eugene Robinson (Thomas Decoud)
Tony Martin (Michael Jenkins)
Ken Norton (Curtis Lofton)
Pepper Johnson (Sean Witherspoon)
Merrill Hoge (Jason Snelling)

I'm also thinking about using the CAP slots to create 20 legends to use on various teams.

Anybody have any other team suggestions?

Re: Creating NFL teams with in-game legends...

I love to pit franchise's "all-time" teams against each other.

Not all NFL clubs have enough legends in the game to make an "all-time" team, but you can make some pretty sweet ones out of San Fransisco, Oakland, Philly, Houston, Dallas, etc.

Sometimes I mix legends and CAPs:

Re: Creating NFL teams with in-game legends...

It's actually a lot of fun and I do this all the time mainly because the developers didn't have the foresight to include more than 20 slots for CAPs which made absolutely no sense. Generally I don't build on specific players themselves but instead take into account the team's schemes and strength and/or depth at a specific position.

Here's the Cowboys:
G - OLB - Derrick Thomas (Demarcus Ware)
G - TE - Mike Ditka (Jason Witten)

S - QB - Len Dawson (Tony Romo)
*Or Randall Cunningham since Romo/Randall can both be rattled, but generally, if a guy is white/black I like to stick with that for aesthetic purposes.

S - WR - Andre Reed (Miles Austin)
S - DT - Jerome Brown (Jay Ratliff)

B - RB - Natrone Means (RB by committee)
B - WR - Rob Moore (WR by committee)
B - ILB - Brian Bosworth (Keith Brooking) or Ken Norton Jr (Bradie James)
B - OLB - Otis Wilson (Anthony Spencer)
B - CB - Albert Lewis (Terrence Newman)
B - CB - Terry McDaniel (Mike Jenkins)

Kinda tough with this team since they are loaded. You could also elevate the RB to Silver with Otis Anderson (RB - has both size & speed + Workhorse to mimic the RB-by-committee) to replicate Barber, Jones, & Choice and drop off to Bronze for Saleamula (DT). Or if you want to replicate Dallas' kick return proficiency you can use Charley Taylor (WR) to pose as both Austin & the KR unit.

Here's the Steelers:
G - FS - Ronnie Lott (Troy Polamalu)
G - OLB - Derrick Thomas (Rodney Harrison)

S - QB - Bart Starr/Ken Stabler (Ben Rothelesberger)
S - WR - Herman Moore (Hines Ward)
S - TE - Todd Christiansen (Heath Miller)

B - DE - Rulon Jones (Aaron Smith)
B - DT - Dan Saleamula (Casey Hampton)
B - OLB - Otis Willson (Lemar Woodley)
B - ILB - Pepper Johnson (Farrior/Timmons)
B - WR - Alan Branch (Mike Wallace)
B - RB - Barry Foster (Rashard Medenhall)

Again, here I'm trying to replicate what Pittsburgh does by having max bodies and pressure in the front 7 on the defense which masks a lot of their deficiencies in their secondary. I feel TE & OLB are interchangeable so Metzellars (TE) & Gregg Lloyd (OLB) could be swapped in and out for the players listed above.

Yep always fun. Just hate that I can't have Lott, Rice, AND Montana. Travesty.

Here's a Saints team, I put together:

(Drew Brees) Joe Montana
(Jon Vilma) Mike Singletary
(Marques Colston) Charley Taylor
(Jeremy Shockey) Brent Jones
(Pierre Thomas) Billy Sims
(Robert Meacham) Alvin Harper
(Devery Henderson) Cliff Branch
(Will Smith) Dexter Manley
(Darren Sharper) Eugene Robinson
(Tracy Porter) Carl Lee (CAP)
(Sedrick Ellis) Leon Lett

Nice. I would put Karl Mecklenburg in for James Farrior and use Metzalaars for Heath Miller though. That Cowboys build is tough too. Played against them the other day and got destroyed.

Here's a Eagles team I made:

Willie Brown (Asante Samuel)
Joe Perry (Leon Weaver)
Charley Taylor (DeSean Jackson)
Leroy Butler (Quentin Mikell)
Ricky Watters (Lesean McCoy)
John Taylor (Jeremy Maclin)
John Offerdahl (Stewart Bradley)
Pete Metzalaars (Brent Celek)
Dave Krieg (Kevin Kolb)
Robert Brazile (Ernie Sims)
William Perry (Broderick Bunkley)
