I always thought this was quite peculiar myself for people who were dead set on having NFL rosters. The funny thing is I'm in year 7 of my Madden 10 franchise - I've physically played every game off and on the past few years - and pretty much all the premier players have retired or are backups and the game is populated by generic guys.

The funny thing about my franchise is I edited all the high-profile rookies and gave them names of legendary players based on their attributes & ethnicity. So for example, a speedy pass rushing OLB is Derrick Thomas, a crushing FS is Ronnie Lott, big armed, immobile QB as Warren Moon, and so forth. It makes Madden bearable. :P

I so appreciate the fact you have meaningful penalties. I never grow tired of this title. I bought my 360 version on day 1 for the full price and haven't ever regretted it (when you can pick the game up for practically nothing now).

I wish I could be smart enough to figure out the editor, I could play this game another 4 years.

Ha, I know! I got called for defensive holding and was surprised at first. Not used to that.

Defensive holding and ineligible receiver down field are very interesting penalty's in that both actually provide depth to the game.

Defensive holding happens when you have a bad corner on a good wide out and you leave them without a safety over top or you try and press a receiver inside without a good bump and run corner.

Ineligible receiver down field happens when you wait to long on a pass play most often on play action plays.

You'll also get ineligible receiver if you call a screen pass and wait too long to pass the ball.

If only 2k would release a completely generic football game for the PC using the base of APF2k8....

Modders could take control and we'd have, in essence, a 2k12,13,14, etc.So long as mods were free, there should be no problems with EA claiming "copyright infringement".

*SIGH*...........imagine the possibilities. I dare say Madden sales would slip even further if this happened....

This community really needs to evolve from this death to Madden mind set.

Madden is a very good game and will hold the copyright for years to come.

Fact is there is only a small niche market for football outside of the nfl/ncaa if 2k cant secure one of those rights there is no reason to put resources towards making a football title.

If you really want to help you should help develop interest in the 2k8 franchise community via friends/family members. 2k does not need more money to make another title they need interest and right now there is little to none.

Lower sales in madden does not mean anything good for anybody!

HAHAHA! Perfect.

Had another epic moment on an interception this weekend. It was a deep bomb in the back of the endzone. My safety jumped up, reached over the WR with one hand, tipped the ball back in to the middle of the endzone, and my CB came and grabbed it. I was blown away. I love seeing players actually fight for the ball like that, and when they're not in the best position having awareness to make the right move and actually watching correct animations for the situation unfold.

All Pro is definitely still the best football sim.

Too bad so many people didn't give it a shot without a franchise mode.

I just play games for the on field action. And because of that, APF 2K8 is my most-played sports game this generation.

I agree with you guys 100%. I am more into on field action and find APF2K8 head and shoulders above Madden in on field action. I played the demo again a few weeks ago and immediately went and picked up a used copy. Now I am recruiting friends and got 3 or 4 of my friends to get the game. It's amazing that the online server is still up. As long as online works, I'll be playing this game online with buddies for the next few years, unless Madden really steps up and improves dramatically.

I really like Madden 12. And you know why... because I see elements of APF2k8 in it.

I just like to play good football games. I don't care about the name. I'm flexible, I can play to the Madden style or play to the 2k style. I just love football games.

But NFL 2k5 and APF 2k8 have an effect on me that Madden does not. Games take HOURS because I literally go back and replay each play 2, 3, 4 times. It seems like you see something so realistic and natural looking on every play. Plus, I think the game looks amazing... yes, I said it. People get too hung up on graphics and player models and all that... I'm just a gamer. I'm more hardcore then all my friends, but I still appreciate these games despite digging deeper into them then the casual gamer (but not as deep as alot of guys who still play this series).

There's a reason I still have NFL 2k5 and APF 2k8 despite only playing them every now and then. They blow me away when I pop them in, and then I let them rest for another period of time. Repeat.

The day that 2K announces another football game, generic or otherwise, will be a great day.
