Deone Bucannon
Position: Strong safety.
School: Washington State.
Ht., Wt.: 6 feet 1, 211 pounds.
Pick: Round one, 27th overall.
Background: A four-year starter in college, he was a captain the last three seasons. Finished his career with 15 interceptions and had more than 100 tackles his past two seasons.
How he fits: He could start right away at strong safety. Last year's starter, Yeremiah Bell, is unsigned and might retire. The Cardinals hope Bucannon helps them improve their coverage of tight ends, the one defensive weakness in 2013. Physically, Bucannon compares favorably to former Cardinals strong safety Adrian Wilson, according to General Manager Steve Keim.
TROY NIKLASPosition: Tight end.
School: Notre Dame.
Ht, Wt: 6-feet-6 ½ 270 pounds.
Pick: Round two, 52nd overall.
Background: A nephew of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews. Niklas was a defensive end/outside linebacker his first season at Notre Dame. He was moved to tight end the following year. He's known for his receiving skills but reportedly needs to work on his blocking.
How he fits: The Cardinals need a playmaker at the position. They've waited three years for Rob Housler to seize the job, but he's been inconsistent. Backups Jake Ballard and John Carlson have had injuries. Coach Bruce Arians knows how to incorporate tight ends in the passing game, so Niklas will have every opportunity to blossom.
KAREEM MARTIN
Position: Defensive end/outside linebacker.
School: North Carolina.
Height, Weight: 6-6, 272.
Pick: Round three, 84nd overall.
Background: Martin had 11 ½ sacks and 14 quarterback pressures last season. He started 41 of 49 games in four seasons, playing mostly defensive end. He has a reputation as an excellent athlete with the frame to carry more weight.
How he fits: The Cardinals needed a pass rusher in this draft. Martin might provide that as a situational player this year. The Cardinals also had next year in mind when making this pick. Defensive end Darnell Dockett turns 33 this month and 2015 is the last year of his contract. The team had to start preparing for the future.
JOHN BROWN Position:wide receiver.
School: Pittsburgh State.
Ht, Wt: 5-9, 179.
Pick: Round 3, 91st overall.
Background: He's fast. Brown ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds at the scouting combine in February. Bounced around in college, going from Mars Hill, to a junior college, then to Pittsburg State, home of the Gorillas. He can also return punts and kicks.
How he fits: The Cardinals wanted a speed receiver, and Brown might be that guy. Arians needed someone who could stretch the field, so maybe this is his effort to find another T.Y. Hilton, the Colts receiver. Brown and Ted Ginn Jr., give the Cardinals a faster receiver group. Brown will compete for the fourth receiver's job.

LOGAN THOMAS
Position: Quarterback
School: Virginia Tech
Ht. Wt: 6-6, 250
Pick: Round four, 120th overall
Background: Thomas started three seasons at Virginia Tech, and was at his best in the first of those, 2011. He had 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions that year. In the two years that followed, he had 34 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. He also fumbled 23 times in college, so ball security is an issue. But his size and arm strength make him an intriguing prospect.
How he fits: Thomas is a project. In Arians, Tom Moore and Freddie Kitchens, the Cardinals have the coaches in place to bring Thomas along. But his inaccuracy in college is troublesome. He'll have time to learn in Arizona, playing behind Carson Palmer. To make the team, Thomas must beat out Ryan Lindley for the No. 3 job. Palmer remains starter and Stanton will continue to be No. 2, coach Bruce Arians said.

ED STINSON
Position: Defensive end
School: Alabama
Ht. Wt: 6-4, 287
Pick: Round 5, 160th overall
Background: Stinson started three seasons at Alabama and finished his career with 5 ½ sacks. He is known as a better run defender and has the versatility to play both end and nose tackle.
How he fits: The Cardinals wanted to build depth on the defensive line in this draft, and Stinson. The Cardinals needed to develop some young backups behind ends Darnell Dockett and Calais Campbell.
powell.jpg
WALTER POWELL
Position: Wide receiver
School: Murray State
Ht. Wt: 5-11, 189
Pick: Round 6, 196th overall
Background: From St. Louis, where he played in high for former Ram Mike Jones. In college, he led his team in receiving for three years and was a captain for one year. Draft stock suffered when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds at the combine. But he was dealing with a foot injury there. At his pro day later in the spring, he ran it in under 4.5 seconds.
How he fits: He will compete with several others, including third-round pick John Brown, for the fourth and fifth receivers' jobs. Powell will need to prove he can play on special teams. The Cardinals think he can be effective as a gunner on punt coverage and as a blocker on punt returns.
We asked owner Matt Viselli about the draft and he had this to say. "Our draft we added to our already talented roster these young guys will have the chance to contribute when they are ready. Some are more ready then others" asked to elaborate Viselli would not give any names. Viselli did mention that he believes that some of his rookies will surprise with the preseason right around the corner. One thing is for sure Cardinal fans are excited.
