Re: CAPs Etiquette Question
I thought most people would agree on a handful of guys like Deion, LT, and maybe Bruce Smith or someone like that. However, the sim CAP sites on the 2k boards, which look like pretty fair renditions of players whose careers I watched, have 5 abilities for guys that the average gamer may not know and I was unsure how the folks on these boards felt about some of those examples. Ken Houston is one, Bobby Bell another, and the list goes on. I check the HOF bios, look for scouting reports online, and look at player stats to get a sense of abilities even when making caps from the sim CAPs list, but I'm sure there are those out there who would see a name they don't know and think it's cheese.
Then, there is the separate issue of recreating teams from specific years. I want to do the '91 Falcons, 'cause I always liked the Glanville era and that team was a surprise (winning the division that year, I think). I have to create two golds, Deion being the obvious, but Rison is a potential stretch IMO. His credentials make him a borderline candidate, and the abilities I gave him (speed burner, deep threat, quick feet, acrobatic catches, and soft hands) all apply, though I could see someone quibbling.
I'll also have to allocate two silvers to borderline players (Mike Haynes had a great year that year, as did Tim McKeyer; Mike Kenn was a 5x Pro Bowler at LT). The bronzes are a non issue, but I thought there would be more dialogue on this point here. I suppose its absence means that nobody really worries about it, and that more or less answers my question.
I don't really have a problem with them myself, though I do tire of seeing the guys who create themselves or who make players with stacked abilities that don't have any basis in the history of the game.
