Anyhow, back on track. Backbreaker sounds to me like competition with games ending by one or two key plays... It doesn't really mean football to me, but it does mean competition in general... Boilermaker could mean just as much, though that's more of a baseball term. But the point is that with the big football player on the cover, plus this title, I think we're seeing competition for Madden for the first real time... I hope they ramp up the advertisments as they get closer to the release date, but then again, all I really remember about 2K5 was that the game was cheaper, which Backbreaker is supposed to be, and that 2K5 was released earlier then Madden, which Backbreaker is as well...
Nope, the D is played in third person. Two player games are splitscreen.

Madden has no competition. It never will until the license is destroyed. lol. BB will not touch Madden.

I feel the only competition is in the hardcore circles. But I guess that is where they should start and then expand to the general public.

Really... I saw what I described, and didn't see anything else... Like footage from a defensive player making the plays...

Either way, I agree somewhat with what you said about the licence... Lets hope that it happens sooner then later.

I'm surprised nobody's had my take yet...

The title makes sense, though it's a bit unconventional. The game's main selling point (from a casual standpoint at least) is it's tackling/hitting, right? Who gets tackled/hit most of the time? QuarterBACKS and HalfBACKS. You might even say they get "broken" sometimes.

Maybe I'm reaching, but that's how I see the title.

That is a clever play on words and interpretation. When I see the videos of the game it seems like the focus was set on the QB and HB getting completely smashed rather then them making plays.

With a title like, "Backbreaker," what's your first assumption? Don't even consider the uniform styles, the developer diaries or anything else. When you first hear such a title, do you think American Football Simulation? It's not a bad name. I don't mean to imply that. Even if the game leans itself towards a Blitz-like style, that's the developers choice. I am interested though in how they came to the conclusion to give this game such a title. Was the focus at first to show body twisting tackles that were are an exaggerated display of what we might see in football? After watching the developer diary video, you don't get that sense. You tend to think they are taking the sport very seriously with the aim being real football.

I question this because I sometimes wonder if the core of this game is Euphoria and not football. It shouldn't be. It should be the sport first and then Euphoria part of the process. The reason being is, any sports video game could use Euphoria, no? That's probably the goal. So now I wonder why the name, "Backbreaker?" What about that name says football?
you sort of answered your question right there. This game is not about euphoria producing pretty looking collisions (while that is in the game), its more about the sport of football and being a player on a team.

I mean, "All Pro Football" just has the sound of a cheap, generic football game. A lot of kids haven't seen those guys play or wouldn't recognize them out of their NFL uniforms either.

If these guys would've thought of a catchier title and splashed "From the makers of NFL2K5" on the cover they might have sold more copies.

The title had nothing to so with its sales. The title was fine. Their problem was the lack of depth and advertising. With no franchise, limited customisation and graphics that were good but not next gen like,we knew it wasnt going to sell well which is a shame cuz to me its by far the most realistic football game out there. I hate Madden on next gen, last gen was great, but they cant seem to get anything right with the gameplay on next gen and i sure dont expect anything different from them this year. Backbreaker is already paid for and I cant wait tp pick it up day one.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Stopped to Think About the Title of This Game?

Initially I've gone back and forth with the Devs approach to BB. I've had issues with the Backbreaker name, camera angle, and also player models simply because my logic was if your going to use a realistic engine like Euphoria then why not keep everything else about the game realistic.

After further research I am 100% onboard with the Devs approach to the game. The game is set in a futuristic setting which is why they chose the player models/uniform design. After watching the videos the player models look a lot better than they did say 2 years ago when they did look blitzish. Devs confirmed also that there are now 56 teams spread across the globe which keeps in line with the NFLs dream to one day go global.

The passing system which is basically the madden QB vision cone minus the cone and hopefully not as clumsy looks and sound phenomenal. If you look at the clips the way the QB scans the field is a thing of beauty. The transition from one WR to the next is so subtle at first that I didn't realize the QB was scanning his receivers in the clip. The screen literally pans from side to side but it is done so smoothly you barely see the camera move and it also allows you to see enough of the field that your not as locked in as I initially thought you would be.

The other thing that I think people will come around to is the camera angle. Look at how the QB throws the ball over the middle its like once the ball is delivered the WR is snapped immediately into the middle of the action which is what has been missing from any football title. It feels like you just completed a pass to you buddy and then they take over from there if you know what I mean. Its the same with a handoff or pitch the camera is zoomed out and once you get the ball it snaps in but in a way that allows you to see enough of the field, but you are put into the action which is the experience the devs are going for.

I have no idea how this will work on defense. I do hope that we have the ability to switch players but if not then it would almost be foolish to play with anyone other than a safety or maybe MLB. I'm not crazy about the split screen but I understand why.

If this game has any kind of logical AI it will be light years better than Madden. I'm not going to say that its going to put Madden out of business or anything because they have a huge following but the real football fans will recognize that this is a superior game. I do think BB will go a long ways to killing canned animations so I think everyone should be thanking them for at least that.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Stopped to Think About the Title of This Game?

Just want to point out that the Madden devs seem to seriously care about the sport of football as well...doesn't mean they turn that into a 100% perfect representation, but they care....

If caring made good products then no game would suck.
