Backbreaker VS. Back-Y-A-R-D Football (2010) NFL logos & Players: Explanation?

Back-Y-A-R-D Football (2010) – NFL logos & Player Names: Explanation Please.

Backyard Football (2010)
Platforms: Playstation 2, Xbox360, Wii
Rated: E
Developer: Humongous Entertainment
Publisher: Atari

Does anyone know the reason for why this game has a license to use NFL logos and NFL player names as well? I had the impression the license was exclusive to that one game in town. Backyard football has been a franchise for over 10 years (1999 - 2010; ongoing). This game has always been released with NFL football teams and NFL football players. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backyard_Football

This game is pure arcade; 7 vs. 7. Real NFL players (cartoon) mixed with created generic players. I have played previous installments. It’s very cute.

Could Backbreaker or 2ksports get a “similar license” to use the NFL logo and NFL player names? It’s wishful thinking, but more curiosity than anything else.

1999 – 2010: Pro Players and licensed NFL teams available.

2010: NFL teams (all of them are available, I think)

2010 Pro Players: Champ Bailey, Ronde Barber, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ronnie Brown, Reggie Bush, Matt Cassel, Chris Cooley, Joshua Cribbs, Braylon Edwards, Lee Evans, Larry Fitzgerald, Frank Gore, Matt Hasselbeck, AJ Hawk, Steven Jackson, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Chad Johnson, Chris Johnson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Lewis, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Darren McFadden, Donovan McNabb, Randy Moss, Carson Palmer, Adrian Peterson, Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, Steve Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, Michael Turner, Brian Urlacher, Kurt Warner, Mario Williams, Jason Witten.

"The Backyard Sports series is the only game brand licensed by all the leading professional US sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLS)." (According to Wikipedia).

I guess Madden has the liscense but The Backyard Sports has the license as well, the NFL probably let them keep it.
