Re: Backbreaker producer comments on Madden

When Natural Motion can make money for years to come by licensing their product, why would they sell out to a company? Like I said before. They aren't just a small company making a football game. They are a big company that does a whole lot more than just that. Theres no way in my mind EA buys them. If EA interacts with them at all, the most they'll get it a license to use the engine.

Except that's not how it works with these greedy conglomerate companies is it?

EA's specialty throughout its history is to buy IP. Natural Motion is no different. If NM is successful with their tech, then someone will buy them. Classic takeover case if there ever was one.

There is no reason for EA to buy euphoria any more than they would have a reason to buy morpheme, physx, etc. If they want to use the program they can give Natural Motion a call and tell them what game they want it in the same way they got physx added to madden 11, simple as that.

I'd argue that the other direction, I think buying NM would be a good start and investment on the next console generation's entire line of EA Sports games.

I'm not sure EA is in a position to buy Natural Motion. They've lost 1.67 billion dolllars in the past two years and they need to start gathering cash to resecure the NFL exclusive license in 2012. 2k has already began getting money together in an attempt to get it.

They were profitable in the 4th quarter, the media just loves dire headlines.

Too bad BB won't ever been in the race for a NFL license unless they're bought by a bigger company.

The 4th quarter was the first one in the past 12, I believe. The company's stock has also dropped 67% in value in the past 2 or 3 years. Not spin, fact.

Your right about Natural Motion not affording the license but if a generic Backbreaker is profitable and EA pays to get euphoria into Madden, they won't care.

EA has plenty of money to buy Natural Motion. 1.6 billion and more if they liquidate some assets.

Yes EA has lost 1.67 billion over the past two years but you need to understand why. Contrary to popular adages, the bottom line is not ONLY number worth considering.

The cost of goods sold has gone up as well as unusal expenses and changes in GOODWILL and INTANGIBLE ASSETS.

EA is selling more and more games each year.
