A game for the patient
I don't know about anyone else who is actually enjoying the game. But for myself i didn't play the demo, this game just takes time. I jumped in the fire playing on the hardest difficulty with a crap team, but i'm telling ten games in and it starting to work. passing and running take time, THIS IS NOT MADDEN, which means we have to break some built in habits. This game satisfies every fantasy league i could ever imagine. Somehting i don't think madden will touch for some time. each game has it's place. Madden when i play with some real people and teams, ncaa when recruiting sounds good, and backbreaker, every fantasy league can now be real/Tags: None -
Re: A game for the patient
I am enjoying it quite a bit. I too jumped right into the game and am playing with only 1 gold offensive player (a qb to build around) and a few defensive golds and my last game while I threw 2 picks and at times struggled with the pass and often couldn't run at all my offense put together some good drives as well. What do you really expect with such a weak offense but it was enough to win the game. I completed 14/20 passes for just over 200 yards and 2 TDs although my running stats were terrible with a weak back and no line. Ratings really matter. All in all you really have to know what your team can do and stick too it. Patience and caution are very important on offense unless you have a way better team but that really should often be the case. -
Re: A game for the patient
Yea. I bought it the day it came out (29th) and had it sold on Ebay by the 1st. I just got way too frustrated with the game. Now, looking back, I think if I had played it for about a week, I could've made it work in my favor. I did the same thing though. I played with a crappy team on a high difficulty, and I just couldn't complete a pass to save my life in the first half (unless you count interceptions as completions).
I'm currently looking on Ebay to see if I can find a copy on the cheap. Or I'll just wait until a used copy gets to a Gamestop in my area (which I do see happening because a lot of people, like me, have already sold their copies due to pure frustration.)Comment

Re: A game for the patient
Im playing the heck out of this game and I will have my full NFL league ready soon. Plus when the patch comes out it will make the game better.
Those that are patient will enjoy it. Many people could not compete a pass but stuck with the game and now can pass pretty good.
You really have to respect the wind in the game and your players ratings. A sucky QB will be that Sucky, so pay attention to your pliers ratings.
This game is tons of fun for me. I'm glad I took my time.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Re: A game for the patient
Very much a game for those who are patient, it is an adjustment.. I remember things seeming like it was going on way to fast.. I remember being like WTF? I have no time to pass and I can not run for crap. But just keeping at it.. the game has slowed down. I see holes when I run in between the tackles and outside of them... better and passing seems normal as doing anything else in the game.
It just takes time.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
I couldn't pass to save my life the first 10 or so games. I finally started to get the swing of it, and now, with a good QB, I'm pretty consistent. Teams with playmaking corners still give me fits though, lol.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
When I first started playing this game my madden instincts kicked in and I automatically thought the best way to run the ball was to hold R2 and bulldoze straight ahead...doesn't work at all in this game, you will be lucky to get 2 yards a carry doing that. You have to use agile mode and throw a couple cuts and jukes right at the line...then once you get to the DB's its time to start trucking.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
My passing is coming around. Can't wait till the end of year one my Michigan High School football league. My Qb's are horid but my passing is improving. Again I play this knowing that there are things i don't like or understand (not having height and weight makes me quite sad) but it's different madden 10 got stale for me fast, any body complete a year yet on season mode?>??
PS also like how there isn't any simulating.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
I spent most of last night practicing my passing game instead of playing, I've never done that before. I enjoy the steep learning curve and the gratification of putting together a scoring drive is unmatched in any football game I have played. I just hope they shore up some of the nagging issues and if not it's still an enjoyable game.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
I bought this game after posting on here regarding whether or not I should get it. The people that loved it seemed like me in that they were not intimidated by change or a different approach to the game. These people loved that the game was difficult to learn and once I read the word "complex" dozens of times, I knew it was a good buy.
After playing a few games, it was a very good buy. The one thing that left me yearning for a bit more was how detached I was from not playing with real teams. I could certainly create a team here and there. But do not have the artistic ability to fully render any league. So today I downloaded someones NFL roster (75% complete) and as the Vikings played against the Browns (I'm still learning, lol). I can say that my heart was completely in this game for the first time and it just made everything that much better. Seeing B. Favres passing stats and A. Petersons running stats made things much, much better than seeing A. Dude's passing stats and M. Adeups running stats. I feel involved in the game now and am paying much more attention to everything in the game due to being more vested in it.
Can't wait til I'm able to download the 100% full roster and hopefully with the newfound roster editor (360 only as of right now), things could be really great. Though I'm on ps3 and am just hoping someone can convert the final save file to be accessed by ps3 users. I don't care if I can't personally edit people, just would like to play a game with ratings that reflect the 'real' players. But as it stands, the guys roster I'm using is great so far and should be more than enough to keep me playing.
To those who haven't purchased this or are having doubts about it after reading the "professional" reviews. I would definitely say play the demo or wait for the ps3 one. It's a game that isn't for everybody. But it embodies real football better than any other game I've seen. I don't have to worry about suction blocking or a random dice roll deciding if the CPU is going to go on some crazy comeback, I'm going to break this last tackle, if the DB that isn't looking at the ball is going to pick it off, etc. It's all very real and feels great.
Never in my life have I been so excited about breaking off a big run in a football video game. Or for that matter, a beautiful, perfectly placed lob pass for a game-changing touchdown. This is a game where the quote "you get out of it, what you put into it" applies moreso than any other game I can think of.Comment

Re: A game for the patient
I bought this game Friday and played well after going through the training mode. The next game I threw 7 ints and really doubted if this game was for me. I stuck with it all day Saturday and I am addicted. This game was not made for the casual gamer in my opinion, but if you plan to invest the time to learn the game and take advantage of the deep customization, then you should definitely give this a shot.Comment
