    Re: Quick Question

I hope they don't release one next year. They aren't tied into any system with the NFL and they need as much time to make a true sequel as they need.

I'm guessing June 2012 isn't out of the question.

The game did not release last year. It released just a few months ago. I do believe it will release in June once again, but that's if there is a sequel.

NM Games is already working on an 'Icebreaker' hockey game, I don't think there will be another football game from them for a few years.

            Re: Quick Question

With the rumor of 2K sports meeting with the NFL, it would not be smart or cost effective for them to release another football game next year. With the state in which they left BB (patch screwed the running game), I'm not certain they should make another football game at all. They should seek a different publisher for certain...505 does not have Natural Motions best interest at hand or maybe they are simply incapable of ensuring the success of Natural Motions games.

Todd, BB lead dev and only NM employee who bothers to post on the official forums said he's working on another project.

He notes and closes bugs but there seems to be very little reason to expect another patch.

From Todd (Head of Games Dev):

                  Hi Guys,

Many of you have been asking about the possibility of another patch post Greathouse.

Greathouse added many features to the game and we really appreciate your feedback and input into it. It was a huge undertaking and we are proud of what was achieved by the team.

But, at this time we are not planning to release a further patch to Backbreaker 1. The Backbreaker team are currently pushing forwards on their next projects, which we are very excited about – news on this to follow soon!

Once again, thanks to all the fans for your support. Please continue to discuss and debate Backbreaker 1 with me on the forum.

                  Todd.

That probably deserves it's own thread... game is pretty broken in a number of ways (customization, running game), no patch, while expected (due to sales) is pretty disappointing.

Strangely, I just picked up a gold RB for my RTB team and in one game I got 120 yards in just under 30 carries. Unfortunately he fumbled twice when my other guy never did, but the running seemed "fixed" for a second.

It feels too awesome to play with this new RB now.

If that's the case then it's a horrible decision. Considering that licensed Hockey games do poorly in sales every year, it would've been a much more reasonable idea to continue with Football.

It wouldn't matter if they turned out the greatest hockey game of all time, it still isn't going to sell well. I can't see the rationale behind this decision strictly from a business standpoint, even if they are just going to take a year or two off from football and come back... because why make a game that has an extremely slimmer chance to succeed than your previous offering? They must have one sweetheart publishing deal in place with 505, and I'd think it would have to be too sweet to be considered the norm.

Even with terrible sales, they won't really suffer. All their technology, employees, etc. is in house. Its their technology, they built it, and they already work for the company. Even with BB's sales I am pretty sure they turned a profit.

You're absolutely right. I've actually made that exact same point in the past in a different discussion. However, choosing a project with way less sales potential then your previous project... I just can't understand what the thinking would be when the object of every business in this field is to grow through sales. It would make a lot more sense if it were just a small indie who self-publishes, makes games for the love of making games (downloadable games), and isn't concerned with gaining any ground in the market. But NM is a multi-million dollar outfit with a publisher to answer to and cut in on the profits, so the dynamic is traditionally different from what a true singular small indie gets involved in.

I can't see IceBreaker even doing half of what BackBreaker did, and BB is only up to like what, 70K or so worldwide? If they're content with just breaking even or turning a minimal profit (which is all they could possibly be doing with BB and eventually with IB as well) then I guess it's not a big deal for them, but if that's how they're thinking I do find it very odd considering the industry they're in. How can there ever be any growth if you're making a title with such a low-pulling market? Right now, they're not even doing 100K with football and are certain to do less with Hockey. This is really strange to me, stranger if they're going to put football on hold entirely for this.

I might be way off, but I think the idea behind what Natural Motion is doing is to show what their technology can do for the sport. I believe they originally approached EA about using Euphoria in Madden and EA turned them down. Now they are attempting to show off it's physics in a hockey setting in the hopes they can convince 2k or EA that it would improve their hockey game.
