Ramirez Homers In 5th Straight In Cards Victory

Manny Ramirez is officially on fire.

Manny would hit his 10th homerun of the season and 6th in the last 5 games in a 6-2 victory over the Pirates, who fell to 10-18 after the loss. Manny was 3-5 with another double in addition to the homer.

The Cards 3-6 batters would go 10-18 on the afternoon driving in 5 of the Cards 6 runs.

Troy Glaus drove in a pair of runs while going 2-4 on the afternoon with a double to his credit. Rick Ankiel (3-4) and Albert Pujols (2-5) would also each drive in a run.

The Pirates would hit 6 doubles in the loss, two of them coming off the bat of Jack Wilson (2-4).

Cards Sweep 2-Game Set With Pirates; Move Into First Place

He may not have homered for the first time in 6 games, but that didn't stop Manny Ramirez from playing a pivotal part in a 5-2 victory over the Pirates this afternoon at Busch.

The game was 0-0 till the 8th inning when Ryan Doumit would hit a 2-run double off Adam Wainwright who was solid going 7 2/3 innings, striking out 11 Pirates while still giving up 10 hits and 2 earned runs.

The heat was on St. Louis to come up with something late and it would be a 5-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the 8th that would burst the dam, sending the Cards to an important victory that would put them in 1st place, one game ahead of the Houston Astros.

Manny Ramirez (2-4) would hit a two-run, bases loaded single while Jason LaRue (2-4) would also drive in a pair of runs in the 8th pushing the Cards to victory despite giving days off to Albert Pujols, Ryan Ludwick, Rick Ankiel, and Skip Schumaker.

Tom Gorzelanny tossed a solid 7 2/3 innings, surrendering 2 earned runs on 7 hits, striking out 4 while Nyjer Morgan would go 4-5.

The Pirates have fallen to 10-19, while St. Louis has moved to 17-14 with the win.

I didn't see your line up do you have Manny after Albert? Man yeah what the guy above said... That is sick.. You can't walk Albert 2 times a game anymore. You are forced to pitch to the best pure hitter in the game or you are forced to pitch to one of the best hitters in the game with at lease 1 man on! Damned if you do, damned if you don't! Can't wait to see what you do moves wise and what kind of pitching staff you can work up down the line.

Carpenter's Struggles Continue; Reds Roll 11-5

It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago Chris Carpenter's ERA stood at 1.93. The Cards Ace was rocked again tonight as the Reds pounded him for 9 hits in 5 1/3 innings, along with 4 earned runs to go along with his 6 strikeouts leaving his ERA at 5.12.

The Cards bullpen was worse as Miller, McClellan, and Flores would allow a combined 7 hits and 5 runs in just 2 2/3 innings.

"The pitching just wasn't there tonight. Chris struggles are frustrating. He is a guy who we count on for wins and the opposition is just locking in on him from the get. We will be working with him to get him back on course," commented LaRussa whose Cards fell into second place with the loss.

Ramon Hernandez lit up the Cards tonight going 4-4 with a triple, a homerun, 3 RBI's and scoring 3 runs while Jay Bruce (2-5) would also homer while driving in 3 runs.

In addition to going 2-3 at the plate with a RBI double, Micah Owings would throw 6 solid innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and fanning 4.

The two teams would combine for 6 errors in the contest.
