Hamels Shuts down Braves
on Opening Day
April 6, 2009

Atlanta, Georgia- The Braves went into Philadelphia with hope for a new beginning with their new ace, Derek Lowe. However, Lowe ran into command troubles and never regained his composure. On the opposite mound, Cole Hamels looked like he was already pitching in October. The Philadelphia offense was great, hitting double after double, there was 5 in total. The Braves were once again opposite from the Phillies as they only mustered 4 base hits, all of them singles. Casey Kotchman was the lone bright spot, going 3 for 3. The series resumes again tomorrow as Jair Jurrjens battles Brett Meyers.

Rollins Walks Off
April 7, 2009

Atlanta, Georgia- The Braves were looking to bounce back from their dissapointing Opening Day loss. Instead, the game was an offensive slugfest. Chipper Jones homered in the 1st, but the Phillies gained 4 in their 1st with a homer from Raul Ibanez. The Braves then swung back and scored 4 more in the 2nd. The score was 5-4 until the 5th inning when Brian McCann hit a soloshot to left field. Once again, the Phillies came back and scored 2 runs to tie the game 6 a piece. In the 9th inning, Rafael Soriano got pinch hitter Matt Stairs to pop-up. On the very next pitch, Jimmy Rollins took it to the second deck to win the game 7-6.
