Hughes Sharp In Season Debut, Propels Yanks To Win

Offense comes around as Yankees pull out key win on the road.

The Yankees took care of the Royals 5-0 yesterday, getting a road win in front of 31,271 fans at Kauffman Stadium. Phil Hughes worked a solid game, giving up no runs and striking out 8 to wrap up his first complete game shutout of the 2009 season. Alex Rodriguez mashed two solo home runs as part of a 3-for-4 day at the dish to lead the charge offensively.

The two teams finish the series with a day game at Kauffman Stadium, as C.C. Sabathia (0-1, 7.50) set to face the Royals Ace, Zack Greinke (1-0, 2.57).

CC Stars As Yanks Top Royals In Series Finale

Yankees sneak past Royals late, leave Kansas City with a win.

The Yankees were able to slip out a one-run win against the Royals yesterday, completing a 3-2 victory at Kauffman Stadium. C.C. Sabathia worked the first 7 innings to get the win, his 1st of the season, punching out 11 while giving up 2 runs and 4 hits. Johnny Damon drove in 1 run and smacked out 3 hits in as many at-bats to lead the offense.

The Yanks take flight as they head down to Tampa, Florida opening the series with A.J. Burnett (0-0, 7.20) opposing Matt Garza (1-0, 1.13) and the Rays.
