Greinke Shines Against Tigers On Opening Day
Perhaps A Repeat Year For Our Cy Young Winner?
Detroit, MI (AP) - Opening Day 2010. It's finally here, that cut grass smell, the freshly painted lines, and the peanuts! That's right folks, it's time to head out to the ballpark for America's past time...baseball!
Our beloved Tigers headed down to Kansas City to take on fellow AL Central division Royals. Both teams aces would get their first starts of the year (obviously) with two righty's in Detroit's Justin Verlander & 2009 AL Cy Young winner, Kansas City's Zack Greinke. As if these two all-star pitchers needed anymore help, it was a very windy & cold night in Kansas City with winds as strong as 20 mph were going against the batters.
The Royals would get out to an early lead as Verlander would give up 2 runs off a RBI double from 1B Billy Butler. Verlander would give up another run at the bottom of the 5th inning before he was taken out of the game to give the Royals a 3-0 lead.
In the end that's all the Royals would need as in Opening day, after 107 pitches, Zack Greinke would throw his first shutout of the year as Kansas City defeats Detroit on opening day.

Would The Game Ever End?
The Game Started At 12:05...
Detroit, MI (AP) - Game 2 of the opening 3-game series between the Detroit Tigers & Kansas City Royals. Two righthanders went at it again today as the Royals Luke Hochevar faced off against the Tigers on a sunny afternoon, but still a bit chilly day with winds alot less strong (2 mph) than last night's 20+ mph winds.
This time it would be the Tigers that got on the board early as the catcher Gerald Lair hit an RBI single at the top of the 2nd inning putting the Tigers out to a early 1-0 lead. The lead wouldn't last too long however as Willie Bloomquist belted in an RBI double to tie the game all back up at the bottom of the 3rd.
Neither team would score another run until 2B Chris Getz hit a deep sac fly that would bring in a run at the bottom of the 7th, giving the Royals a 2-1 lead. However, with a runner on 1st and 2 outs at the top of the 8th, switch-hitting DH Carlos Guillen hit a 2-run shot to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead! Again Kansas City struck right back as CF Rick Ankiel hit an RBI single to knot the game back up at the bottom of the 8th.
The game ended up going into DEEP extra innings with Ryan Raburn pinch hitting for the struggling (0-7) Austin Jackson with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd. After getting to a 2-2 count, Raburn would smack a fastball deep into the gap for the RBI double to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead at the top of the 17th inning! Following him Johnny Damon would almost blast a 2-run shot, but alas it went off the wall for another RBI double, 5-3 Detroit. Keeping things going as Maggs would hit yet another RBI double to pad the Tigers lead even more, 6-3. Phil Coke would come in at the bottom of the inning and close things out as the Tigers get the win to tie the series at 1-1.

Another Defensive Battle Ends In Tigers Victory
Carlos Guillen Continued To Be Consistent
Detroit, MI (AP) - The final game of the 2010 Opening Series between the Detroit Tigers & Kansas City Royals took place earlier today as both teams went into Game 3 tied 1-1 a piece after the Tigers won a grueling 17 inning battle that started yesterday afternoon and ended in the evening. Both teams hoped for a much shorter game today (along with the umps & fans I'm sure). Like the previous two games, two righty's would go at it again as Max Scherzer started for the Tigers and Brian Bannister for the Royals.
Much like the previous two games, another low-scoring defensive battle occured between the two AL Central teams as SS Adam Everett hit an RBI double with 2 outs at the top of the 5th to break the runs column giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. All the way at the top of the 9th now with 1 out, DH Carlos Guillen would come up with an RBI triple to pad Detroit's lead a little more heading into the bottom of the 9th, 2-0 Tigers. Detroit's closer, Jose Valverde would come in for his first appearence of the season to try and get the save against the bottom of the order. He would do just that as the Tigers would win 2-0, finishing the series 2-1.

Runs From First Two Innings Enough For Indians Win
David Huff pitched lights out.
Detroit, MI (AP) - The Tigers faced off against division foe, the Cleveland Indians in what was their home opener. Both teams are currently 2-1 early on in the 2010 season and Detroit would start their right-handed Jeremy Bonderman and the Indians would start the lefty David Huff. It would be another cool and windy day at Comerica Park as the batters would have to battle against mother nature as well.
It would only take 2 batters until the first run would be scored, back-to-back doubles and an RBI for Grady Sizemore gave the Indians an early 1-0 lead with no outs. Luckily enough, Bonderman would get out of the inning (after 29 pitches though) with no more damage done. Following inning however and C Lou Marson would hit an RBI single to pad the lead to 2-0. Even with the heart of the order though in the bottom of the 9th, the Tigers still couldn't put a run on the scoreboard as David Huff got his first shutout of the season in his first start.
2-0 Indians over Tigers.
