Angels Win First 3, But Drop Tough 4th Game

Anaheim, CA: The Angels came into this series expecting the Sox to be quite a challenge. But, through the first 3 games they didn't even look like they belonged on the field with them. In game 1, the Angels were able to put up 10 points on 15 hits and take the win 10-5. Kazmir had a decent outing going 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits with 8 strikeouts. Hunter and Morales both had home runs to lead a strong offensive outing. In game 2, Pineiro was able to hold the Red Sox to just 2 runs in 6.1 innings and got the run support he needed to win. The Angels offense was lead by Morales who had 2 home runs and 3 RBI's in the game. In Game 3, Barry Zito was able to go 8 innings and allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits with 9 strikeouts in a great first start for the Halos. Matsui hit 2 home runs and got 4 RBI's and charged an offense that had another strong showing. The final game was a tough loss for the Halos. They were able to get a late home run to tie the game at 4 in the 9th. The Angels were able to keep the game going until the 13th when Aybar misjudged a soft ground ball and let it slip into center field and the winning run was able to score. Saunders allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and issued 6 K's in another pretty strong outing by the southpaw. The Angels had 7 doubles, but were unable to come up in the clutch and suffered a devastating loss.

Re: Heaven On Earth: A Los Angeles Angels Franchise

Santana Is Back

Anaheim, CA: After being sent down to the minors after struggling early this year, Santana is coming back to the majors. Santana struggled in both games he pitched and it is rumored that an injury may have forced him to be sent down to the minors. We caught up with Santana who said, "I'm not gonna make any excuses about what happened. I was not pitching well, but I was able to work on my mechanics and I'm sure I will be able to contribute in a much better way now." Santana is going to be inserted into the starting rotation and Kazmir will now be a relief pitcher. Matt Palmer has been sent to AAA Salt Lake.

This move comes right after after another game in which Kazmir struggled. He gave up 5 runs in 6 innings against the Mariners and made this game very challenging for his team to come back. His ERA is now 5.08 which the Angels do not feel is good enough. They believe that Santana can be an all-star if he puts in the work.

Angels Get 3 Hard Earned Wins In Seattle

Anaheim, CA: This series between the Angels and the Mariners was the most important series for both of these teams so far. They both came into the series with a chance to have the #1 spot in the AL West by the end of it. The Angels were able to squeeze out 3 tough wins to sweep the Mariners and grab a hold on first place. In game 1, Smoltz pitch 5 innings of no hit baseball and was able to grab a nice 4-3 victory. Rivera was 3 of 4 and had 3 doubles to lead an offense that was not as potent during this series as it has been of late. In game 2, Kazmir gave up 4 runs in the first inning and the Angels were down by 5 at the end of the 2nd. But, they were able to rally behind Morales and his 3 run homer to take a 6-5 comeback win. In game 3, Pineiro gave the Angels their first complete game shutout of the season allowing 8 hits and striking out 6. The Angels only scored once on a 2 run homer by Morales, his 14th of the season, but that was all they needed to get the victory and the sweep.

Angels Sweep Tampa Bay With Great Pitching Performances

Anaheim, CA: This series was full of pitching match-ups and it was certainly exciting. In the first game it was Saunders vs. Garza in the battle of the unbeaten. Saunders was able to pitch 8.1 innings allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and picked up his 4th win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.47. Aybar hit his first home run of the season to lead the offense in a 3-1 victory. In game 2, Santana made his first start since returning to the majors and did not disappoint. He was able to pick up a complete game 4 hit shutout and struck out 13 batters. Rivera had a HR in the 1st inning and the Angels were able to pick up a 2-0 victory. In the final game, Barry Zito went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs, but ended up with a no decision despite striking out an unbelievable 14 batters. Rodney pitcked up the win when Torri Hunter hit a walkoff single that scored Izturis and the Angels won a close one 3-2.

Re: Heaven On Earth: A Los Angeles Angels Franchise

Hey guys. I am just gonna be straight up and say I've gotten bored of using the Angels. I'm guessing its because I watch them on TV almost everyday lol. I'm gonna start a new one with the Nationals though. I hope some will follow sorry about stopping another one.

Thanks to any of you for following this.

Series Review:

Angels Take Series 2-1 As Winning Streak Ends at 7

Anaheim, CA: The Angels came into this series with the A's with a record of 11-1 in the month of May and they were riding a 6 game winning streak. In the first game, they were able to extend that streak with yet another strong pitching performance by John Smoltz. Smoltz (W, 6-0) was able to pitch 6 innings and he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits. He also walked 1 and struck out 6. The Angels had a strong offensive performance and were able to put up 7 runs. The biggest hit in the game came from Napoli on a 3 run home run in the 6th to break open the game. The A's looked to be mounting a comeback in the 9th, but it was halted by Fernando Rodney and the Angels held on to win 7-4.

In game 2, the Angels saw what was now a 7 game winning streak come to an end. Pineiro put up a great pitching performance in 7 innings of work. He allowed only one run on 6 hits, but he was not a factor in the decision. The Angels were leading 2-1 until, in the top of the 8th, Fox hit a 2 run home run for the A's off of Scot Shields. This gave them the lead and they held on to win. Matsui had a home run in this game for the offense, but it was not enough.

In the final game, the Angels fell behind early and were down 3-0 going into the 3rd. They were able to get a 3-run inning though and tie the game at 3 before the A's took the lead back in the 6th and they went up 4-3. But, the Angels were able to rally and score 3 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th and they held on to win this one 7-5. Saunders got the start for the Angels and put in a solid performance. He gave up 4 runs in 7 innnings and struck out 7. Fuentes was able to get his 10th save of the year and the Angels took the series with this win.
