Astros Bring the Pirates Back Down to Earth

@

The Astros were able to avoid the sweep and take game three of the series. Strop and Morales also came back to earth as they combined to go 1 for 7 and didn't hit any homeruns or drive in any runs. Ross Ohlendorf pitched a pretty good game, but got the no decision as the Astros broke a 3-3 tie thanks to a two run shot by Pedro Feliz. The Pirates will look to bounce back at Milwaukee as they take on the Brewers in a three game set starting tomorrow night.

Big Third Inning Lifts Pirates to Huge Win

@

Oh my goodness! Doug Davis will probably have nightmares for half the season on this one. The Pirates were red hot today, scoring eight runs in the third inning, taking an early 10-1 lead over the Brewers. This was virtually a practice for the Pirates as their bats are hotter than ever here in Milwaukee. Jamar Strop tacked on another homer to his totals and the Pirates gracefully stomp all over the Brewers to propel them to the top of the division. The Brewers have dropped to last and if they want to get out of there they will have to bounce back in this series, but for now Pittsburgh will take this sweet victory and hold their heads high as they lead the NL central.

Bats Stay Hot, Pirates Win Again

@

The bats are definitely swinging in full force for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they are able to get another big game out of their offense on their way to a 10-6 victory. The hot bat in this game belongs to Andy LaRoche, who belted three big flies in this one. That would mark the first three home run game for a Pirate this season. After the game, John Russel had this to say: "I can't believe how well this team is playing right now. Our pitching is doing enough to win but our hitting is off the charts right now. I'm hoping we can hit like this all season." Let's hope so, as the Pirates try to close this series off before heading into a tough four game road series against the Dodgers.

Pirates Finish off Second Sweep of Season

@

Zack Duke took the mound tonight and he definitely pitched his best game of the season tonight. He only gave up two runs in six innings, and got his first quality start of the season. The bats finally quieted down this series, as the Pirates had to take the lead at the top of the sixth thanks to two sacrifice flies, and they would never give the lead back. The Pirates would finish the game 3-2 thanks to Octavio Dotel's fifth save of the season, and now the Pirates pack their bags and make way for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a four game set.

A quick word

Wow, I put a lot of work into this today. I didn't really expect this to take all day, but I got caught up to where I'm at now with playing, so I won't have to make post after post every 15-20 minutes like I did today. I'm not sure when I'm going to start playing again, I may get a couple games in tomorrow, I'm not sure, because I have to go to my parent's house tomorrow and I have a test for my summer class on Monday that I have to study up for. I hope that this will give a good idea of what's about to come up and I hope to have some extra things as well like interviews and things like that. Hope you enjoy the franchise.

A Quick Preview: Pirates at Dodgers

I'll get into a little more detail from here on. But, this is what I was able to dig up for this series. After this I'll give starting pitching matchups, possibly something of this nature too. (P.S. Anyone know how to shrink the size a bit?)

Clayton Kershaw Shuts Door on Pirates Winning Streak

@

The Pirates came into this game cruising but the Dodgers were able to shut down the hot bats of Pittsburgh. John Russel figured coming into this game that it would be tough going at the plate, but I don't think even he could predict that the entire team would get one RBI and it would come from the pitcher Paul Maholm. "It was difficult to solve the Dodgers pitching," says Russel after the game. "I knew it would be tough coming in, and the Dodgers aren't showing anything different from what we have planned. If we want to have a chance to take these guys down we're going to have to look for some strong pitching from the bottom of our rotation and from our bullpen. Hopefully our hitters can solve the pitchers of LA a little bit in the later games of this series." The Pirates will get a crack at Hiroki Kuroda in tomorrow night's game, and they well send out Ross Ohlendorf to face him.

Ross Ohlendorf Pitches Gem, Bats Wake Up as Pirates are Back in the Win Column

@

The Pirates came out strong here in the second game of this grueling four game set with the Dodgers. Ross Ohlendorf was able to go the whole nine in this one, pitching his first complete game shutout of the season, the Pirates' third one this year. It's amazing how the pitching is holding up for this team this year. They are putting up some good statistics, ranking in the top 10 in all categories as a team except strike outs. Russel states, "Yeah, our pitching is not concerned about stats, or about getting the most strike outs, or anything of that nature. Our pitching staff's only concern is about winning games, and they know that sometimes that means pitching for contact to lower pitch counts and keeping the bullpen as rested as possible. I'm proud of the way this team has come together this year, and I'm starting to feel something special about this team." The Pirates have ended the month blazing, tied for first in the NL Central, and hope to keep it rolling all the way to October.
