The 2010 San Diego Padres
A team known for Tony Gwynn and never having a player hit for the cycle or toss a no hitter, I will try to emulate the Friars surprising season
PRE-SEASON 2010
Chairman John Moores is running over the teams non roster invitees and their 40 man roster as Jed Hoyer walks in the room.
"Jed, who is this kid Campbell? He is only 18...why are we looking at him?"
Jed furrows his brow as he tries to recall the name "Oh, this guy...he was the one recommend by (advance scout Gregg) Olson. They found him in Mexico, at 16 playing ball. Guess he graduated early and didn't want to go to college. Something about finding his inner che. We signed him and he hit over .500 with 10 HR and 20 sbs in the rookie league. But moreso, he plays defense at SS that reminds (SD Special Asst.) Mark Loretta think he could be the next Ozzie Smith.
"Interesting" Moores says as he persuses the other papers, "How do we look going into the season? You know no one is saying we will finish out of last place, and our attendence has been lacking...we may have to shop Adrian."
"Yes, I know, I have been getting feelers already. We have defense in the OF and in the IF. Hundley is due to step up at C and Headley looks great coming into spring training. Then we have the Hairston brothers at backup"
Then Jed has a look of anticipation on his face as he leans in
"But even better, if Latos and Richard live up to promise, we have the best pitching staff in the league, guaranteed!"
Moores, seeming pleased sits back satisfied "Well then, let's break for Spring Training"
