San Diego, CA - Since 1969, the Padres have been competing in the Senior Circuit. 41 years later, the Friars have accumulated 0 World Series, 0 no-hitters, and 0 cycles. However, between many losing seasons, a near-move to Washington, and many faces, the Padres have had magical moments. In 1984, San Diego witness their first playoff berth and faced the Chicago Cubs. In Game 4, tied 5-5 in the 9th and down 2-1 in the series, Steve Garvey hit a walk-off home run that pushed the momentum fully over to the Padres and won them their first World Series birth against the Detroit Tigers. In 1996, needing a sweep to reach the playoffs, Chris Gwynn hit a double into right-center that scored two-runs and pushed the Padres to victory. Then the magical 1998 season where names like Ken Caminitti, Steve Finley, Greg Vaughn, and Kevin Brown dominated the season until meeting their match in the New York Yankees. The Friars have also had plenty of notable faces in San Diego, including two of the most recognizable: Tony Gwynn, and Trevor Hoffman. But the 2010 Padres look to write their own story. Will it be a story of pride and triumph? Or will it just be another building block into the future. The Padres have a wide variety of talent such as young stars like Will Venable, Kyle Blanks, and future Ace Mat Latos, mixed in with veterans such as Jon Garland and All-Stars Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez. Can that be a recipe for their first playoff birth since 2006?
