Pitching Showdown Ends in BlueJays Favor

Photobucket

Braden was strong on the hill, but was outdone by Toronto's Morrow

Toronto, Can - Oakland's winning streak was snapped today as the A's dropped the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0. Toronto starter Brandon Morrow scattered 8 hits from the A's, allowing runners in scoring position only twice. Dallas Braden was solid on the hill, only giving up 3 runs in 7 innings of work, but got no run support from the offense. "I'm sure he's frustrated, he pitched well, jus threw 3 bad pitches that were handled by the Jays." Mark Ellis lead the Oakland Offense with 3 hits and 2 doubles. Kouzmanoff would also go 3-4. Oakland prospect Chris Carter struggles at the plate have continued as he went 0-4 with 2 strikeouts. Oakland's record stands at an even 4-4 after the loss. they have two more games left in the series against Toronto

Re: Perfect A's

Anderson's Near No-Hitter is Enough to Down Toronto

Photobucket

Toronto, Ontario - The Roger's center was almost the scene of history as Oakland pitcher Brent Anderson spun a 1-hit gem against the Toronto Blue Jays. Anderson had his A game out on the mound as he breezed past Toronto bats to the tune of 1 hit, 9 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Anderson through a No-Hitter into the 7th where it was broken up by a Jose Bautista single to center feild. When asked for a comment Jose bautista had this to say, "I hate to be the guy that ruins a chance at history for a guy, but i was just trying to put my team in a position to chip away at that lead. hat goes off to Anderson though". Oakland bats were awake today as they piled up 12 hits and 8 runs. Kurt Suzuki continues his hot streak knocking in 2 runs on 3 hits. Kevin Kouzmanoff added 2 rbi to the fold as well. Oakland will look to Randy Wells to finish out the series with a win tomorrow afternoon.

Player Press Conference

Craig Monroe called a Press Conference

Craig Monroe called a press conference today to address the reasoning behind him not traveling with the team to Toronto this series.

Photobucket

"The reason i called this press conference today, is to explain to the media and the world why i have chosen to stay here in Oakland for the remainder of this road trip. When i signed my contract with Oakland this offseason i was told that my spot as a starter on this team was pretty much guaranteed. Me, Mr. Beane and Coach Geren all came to the agreement that my job would be to provide power to an anemic offence. So far I've only appeared in 2 games as a starter throughout the first 9 games. Thats unacceptable. I feel 100 percent right now and showed that i can hit the ball still when i went 3-3 against Cleveland a few days ago. Now i'm usually not one to complain, but i don't understand how Oakland management can just turn there back on our agreement, I don't feel that i'm a platoon player and still think that i can play everyday, and if i'm not going to get that playing time here, i'd prefer to be traded somewhere else where i can use my talents accordingly. This has nothing to do with my teammates or the great Oakland fans, I just want the opportunity to play everyday, and if i'm not going to get it here, than please trade me. Thank You for your time, that is all."

Oakland loses Series Clincher to Neighbors up North

Photobucket

Carter drove in the only run for Oakland

Toronto, Ontario - The Athletics lost the series clincher to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 after Randy Wells had to leave the game with Elbow tightness in the 4th inning. The Blue Jays knocked around Athletics pitching today on route to 13 hits, mostly coming from the top of the order. The Athletics were stymied by R. Romero who has pitched extremely well to start off the season, elevating him to the status of Toronto's Ace. Chris Carter continues to heat up as he knocked in a run on 2 hits and a walk. Next game Oakland will travel to Cleveland to start a 3 game series against the struggling Indians. hoping to get back on track with a win.

Cahill Fires Shutout, Oakland Prevails

Photobucket
Powell hit the A's second homerun of the year

Cleveland, OH - Once again Oakland put the boot to Cleveland's throat and edged out a victory over the wahoos. 27,500 plus fans came out for some afternoon baseball and to catch a steller pitching match-up between two of the games up and coming young pitchers, Mitch Talbot and Trevor Cahill, the latter of which would throw 8 dominant innings on the hill on his way to his 2nd victory of the season. Mitch Talbot ran into some road blocks giving up 3 runs in 4 and a 2/3rd innings pitched before getting the hook. The Indians continue to struggle to find offense this season as they are shutout for the 4th time through 10 games."We're just having issues getting runnings home, we'll figure it out" stated Indians Center fielder and leadoff man Grady Sizemore. Chris Carter and mark Ellis lead the charge for Oakland picking up 2 hits each. Landon Powell, not to be undone launched his first homerun of the year, a solo jack to left field. Oakland will look to add another victory to it's record tomorrow in Cleveland
