Perfect A's

So i'll be starting a Oakland Athletics Franchise starting in the offseason of 2011 Major League Baseball Season. I'll be posting everyday updates and stats, and every update should have a series in them. Every post that i make will probably be pretty long, but i actually want this dynasty to be long running so I think thats the easiest way. I'll try to throw in storylines and GM talk But anywho, i'll be starting soon, I'll be using the dynasty tracker as well.

Thank You all for reading
KEEP THE A'S IN OAKLAND

Oakland's Keys to Success

For the Oakland Athletics to be successful this year, they are going to have to find a way to generate runs through the longball. The Athletics last year lost out on alot of wins due to their anemic offense, and for the A's to be a real contender in the AL West in 2011, they are going to have to make speed their back up strategy and focus more heavily on power. The A's really didn't address that need during the offseason, but hope that the addition of power hitting rookie Chris Carter to the team, as well as the addition of Craig Monroe off the bench will add to their power numbers.
2011 Oakland Athletics Top 3 Prospects

1. Chris Carter LF, 1B, DH - Plus Power, with a great arm and a great eye. expect 20-25 hrs this year

2. Yogi Everidge P - Young Pitcher with amazing potential. Should develop into a top tier pitcher with a devastating curveball

3.Anatol Verzosa SS - Young speedy shortstop that hits pitches with eyes all the time. Hits lefties very well future .300 + hitter.
Player to Watch this Season

Chris Carter
Oakland really needs this guy to produce, being the only true potential powerbat in the lineup, Carter is going to have to knock some balls out of the park if the A's are going to compete this year.

Oakland Falls Due to Disastrous Ninth

Jeremy Hermida led the A's with 2 hits and 2 RBIs

Oakland, Ca - Opening Day was not a great day for the Oakland fans as the A's dropped the opener of this 3 game series to the Boston Red Soxs. 30,000 plus fans came to Mcafee to watch the new look Oakland Athletics battle the Boston Red Soxs. Trevor Cahill started for Oakland starting the game by giving up a triple to the speedy Jose Reyes and then a homerun to the deadly Victor Martinez who had 18 last year. Clay Buchholz stymied the Athletics who struck out 11 times on the day, as well as 5 walks. Oakland would finally break through in the 6th with a 3 run inning, led by Jeremy Hermida's (above) 2 RBI single, followed by Daric Barton's RBI single. The game would stay tied till the 9th inning where Oakland Manager Bob Geren decided to pull Jeremy Blevins, who had already pitched 2 innings, for young relief pitcher Jeff Samardzija, who was just acquired from the Chicago Cubs. Samardzjia ran into some trouble giving up 3 runs on 4 hits without recording an out, which would lead to a 7-3 Oakland loss on Opening Day.

Dispite Triple Play Oakland Downed by Boston Ace

Photobucket
Gio was strong on the hill, giving up 2 runs in 7 innings pitched

Oakland, CA - For the second day in a row McAfee Coliseum was the scene of disappointment for Oakland fans as the Boston pitching staff simply dominated Oakland Bats. Gio Gonzalez and John Lester battled a scoreless game for 6 innings before Gio gave up 2 runs in the 7th resulting in the young Craig Krimbrel replacing Gio in the 8th inning. Krimbrel was supported by a rare feat in the 8th, when a 6-4-5-3 triple play was completed to get Krimbrel out of runners in scoring position jam. Oakland's offense could not come up for an answer for the Boston Pitching who struck out Oakland bats 15 times in the game. After the game, Bob Geren was asked if the struggling offense was a point of concern, "Well, we defiantly have had some issues with Strikeouts early this season, but im sure it'll subside when the season really sets in, our guys are professionals and will make the necessary adjustments". Oakland was only able to amass 2 hits and 5 walks. leaving 6 players in scoring position. R. Davis also picked up his first hit of the season aswell as his first stolen base.
-Next game: Tommorow @ Oakland, 7:10pm

-Probable starters: Dallas Braden vs Rich Hill

GM Update
Photobucket

Mat Gamel aquired from the Milwaukee Brewers for Vin Mazzaro and Cedrick Bowers.

Oakland Gets:
Photobucket

Mat Gamels is a young 3B/1B that can play LF if needed. He'll potentially hit for power but don't expect much from him yet. To make room for Gamel on Oakland's 25 man roster, Travis Buck was sent back down to AAA Sacramento. He is expected to see some time at 1B if Barton continues to struggle.

GM Reaction

"Well, we had to give up one of our top MLB ready pitching prospects, but i feel that it was necessary if we wanted to acquire more bats for the future. Both Mazzaro and Bowers were class acts the entire time they spent in the Oakland Athletics system, and we hope them nothing but success in their future endeavors. We expect to see Gamel swinging in the green in gold tomorrow night against the Boston, and i hope the Athletics fans give the young man a warm welcome."
