Hey, Fred! It's Barney! - The Career of Walter Johnson (RTTS)

This is with MLB: The Show 08. I don't have the 2010 or '09.

My name is Walter Johnson. I am a 6'1", 200 lb, 18 year old pitcher from Kansas. I throw the ball from the side about shoulder height and have a lively fastball.

I have been invited to spend spring training with the Minnesota Twins.

(BTW, yes. I gave up on "Nolan Ryan")

Made the debut by starting against the Cincinnati Reds.

I struck out the opening hitter of the game, Cory Patterson, but then all heck broke loose and 7 batters later, I had allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. I threw two no-hit innings after that to complete my outing.

My second start was on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

I threw two no-hit innings to start the game then the roof caved in as I allowed 2 runs in the third and was pulled in the bottom of the 4th with one out and 2 runners on and one run already in this inning. We lost this game, 5-2.

It didn't take long before I got lit up but the O's. I gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st and it was downhill from there as I allow 4 runs and 5 hits in my 4 innings of work.

Code:
               1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R

We are back at the Orioles and my start was much better this time around. I didn't allow a hit until the 4th inning, when Baltimore got 2 runs on 2 hits, one of them being a 2-run homer by Luke Scott, and they ended up winning the game, 2-1.

Code:
               1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R
Minnesota 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 1
Baltimore 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 x - 2

Oh, well. Back to the drawing board as they say. I was absolutely pummeled by the visiting Cardinals and didn't even get out of the 3rd inning. I allowed 2 runs in each of the first 2 innings, then left with the bases full, one out, and 1 run already in with the score 6-0. All three of the runners scored and we end up losing this one, 10-1. I also threw 3 wild pitches.
Code:
               1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R
St.Louis 2 2 5 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 10
Minnesota 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 1

my line:

This is my last start before the Twins break up camp and head north. We are at the training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I lasted 4 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks but the team came back with 4 in the top of the 8th and we won, 7-5. I just might need that one way ticket back to Kansas that I purchased in advance.
Code:
               1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R
Minnesota 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 4 0 - 7
Pittsburgh 2 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 5

my line:

Re: Hey, Fred! It's Barney! - The Career of Walter Johnson (RTTS)

How about that! The GM called me into the office and offered me a 1-year, $70,000 contract. I asked for 4 years but he said no way, so I asked for a 3-year deal and he accepted that (3-years, $210,000). I'm to report to the New Britain Rock Cats and am slated to be a middle relief pitcher.
