Re: Race for 28: A New York Yankees 'Chise
Yankees | Burnett traded to Tigers
ESPN's Wallace Matthews is reporting that A.J. Burnett has been traded to the Detroit Tigers for four prospects, including Cale Iorg and Josh Burrus.
It was unclear for the last two weeks on where Burnett was going to be traded, but the Tigers were always in the discussion, and according to Brian Cashman, they offered the best for Burnett.
"It's a shame to see A.J. (Burnett) gone before we even got to know him, but we're doing whatever is best for the team. We were stacked at the starting pithing position, and we decided we needed to move someone and A.J. was the one." Brian Cashman told reporters Friday night.
Burnett was not available for comment, but his agent Darek Braunecker spoke to the media for him.
"A.J. is upset that was he traded as he liked his time in New York, but this is business. When the Yankees told me they wanted to work a deal, I needed to try and get the best possible deal for him and his family."
Now that Burnett is traded, the Yankees now have a five-man rotation, with one of the best one-two punches in the league with Sabathia and Lee. Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes and Javier Vazquez round out the rest of the rotation.
In other news, the Yankees announced today that they will introduce Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford to the media tomorrow night.
