New York Yankees Rumors
Yankees make huge splash in Free Agency, sign both Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford

In the biggest news of the off-season, the Yankees stole the show once again, signing both ace Cliff Lee and speedy left fielder, Carl Crawford. Cliff Lee was leaning towards the Yankees, and finally signed his contract, as did Crawford the same night.

The only problem with all of this is now the Yankees have a log jam in the starting rotation, as they now have six starters. A.J. Burnett has came up in trade talks throughout the winter, and with the signing of Lee, the talks will most likekly heat up.

Yankees | Burnett likely to be traded

Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com is reporting that according to sources close to the situation, A.J. Burnett is likely to be traded in the upcoming few weeks. With the signing of Cliff Lee, the Yankees have an overload at the starting pitching area, and instead of opting for an six-man rotation, they are choosing trading one of the pitchers away.

This comes of a surpirse as Brian Cashman stated a couple days ago that the Yankees were planning on using an six-man rotation, but something has now changed in that tricky mind of Yankees GM, Brian Cashman.

Burnett had the worst season of his career in the 2010 season, and now instead of being on serious pressure going into the 2011 season, it looks like he'll wearing a new uniform that is not donned in pinstripes.

Sources are saying that the Yankees are looking for some prospects as on paper, all of the positions are filled and there doesn't seem to be a serious 'weak spot' on the Yankees roster. Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for more information.

Yankees | Burnett traded to Tigers

ESPN's Wallace Matthews is reporting that A.J. Burnett has been traded to the Detroit Tigers for four prospects, including Cale Iorg and Josh Burrus.

It was unclear for the last two weeks on where Burnett was going to be traded, but the Tigers were always in the discussion, and according to Brian Cashman, they offered the best for Burnett.

"It's a shame to see A.J. (Burnett) gone before we even got to know him, but we're doing whatever is best for the team. We were stacked at the starting pithing position, and we decided we needed to move someone and A.J. was the one." Brian Cashman told reporters Friday night.

Burnett was not available for comment, but his agent Darek Braunecker spoke to the media for him.

"A.J. is upset that was he traded as he liked his time in New York, but this is business. When the Yankees told me they wanted to work a deal, I needed to try and get the best possible deal for him and his family."

Now that Burnett is traded, the Yankees now have a five-man rotation, with one of the best one-two punches in the league with Sabathia and Lee. Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes and Javier Vazquez round out the rest of the rotation.

In other news, the Yankees announced today that they will introduce Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford to the media tomorrow night.
