The Birds look to have the advantage in the first three games on the mound. Guthrie, Matusz and Arrieta are all pitching better than their counterparts. But those counterparts aren't any push overs. Floyd, Buehrle and Danks are all really good pitchers. They may just be off to slow starts, but we do know the O's starters are pitching good. Edwin Jackson is pitching good and better than Justin Duchsherer, who is coming off a terrible outing against Boston. Baltimore has a huge advantage in the department of offense. They are tied for the best team average in the Major Leagues while Chicago's in 19th and their team ERA is 29th, Baltimore's is fifth.

Injury Report

No Injuries for either of the Major League Clubs

Prediction

The O's will get back on track against the White Sox. They should take three of four. The best pitching matchup comes in game three where Jake Arrieta pits up against John Danks. While Danks is having a good year Arrieta is having a better year. The fact that Chicago's team ERA is so bad and Baltimore is hitting the ball extremely well is a key factor.

AL East Update

The Yankees pulled into a first place tie with Baltimore, after taking two of three from the White Sox. They are hosting Toronto who surprisingly took three of four from the Rangers. Boston of course won the series with Baltimore and now travel to Seattle for the weekend series. Tampa Bay dropped two of three in Minnesota and they will host the Angels for three games in the Trop. With the first month almost over the AL East is a four team race and if Toronto gets healthy they maybe a factor in the division.

nice work on the mound so far. I like Arrieta, I made a deal for him in my sex franchise to take dice-k's spot lol.

Game 1

O's Struggle Late, Lose Opener 3-2

In a game where Jeremy Guthrie pitched all eight innings and did a good job, the Orioles offense was no where to be found. The only extra base hits were solo home runs by Nick Markakis and Luke Scott. Markakis was responsible for the two of the hits. When ever an opportunity presented itself the batter either struck out or fouled out. Vladimir Guerrero was 0-4 with four strikeouts. In this three game losing streak the O's offense has been no where to be found. With a shaky bullpen this offense needs to hit and give the starters some support. Guthrie pitched good enough to win, but tonight it was the offense that let him down.

Game 2

Birds' Bats are Alive, Smash Sox 13-3

After only scoring 11 total runs in the last five games, Baltimore scored 13 tonight against Chicago. Let by Mark Reynolds 3-5 night which included two homer runs and a double, the Orioles finally got back on track offensively and Brian Matusz looked like a Cy Young contender out there. He may have only had four strikeouts but he pitched his way out of some tough innings. He only gave up 9 hits total and he didn't walk anyone while giving up two runs. One of those were an Adam Dunn solo home run off a slider that didn't slide like it should it stayed flat. That was in the fourth inning, the only other run Matusz gave up was in the first. Koji Uehara came in the eighth and gave up the final run, but it wasn't his fault. He gave up the hit but JJ Hardy air mailed a relay throw past Roberts at second allowing the runner to get into scoring position. The next batter singled scoring the runner from second. The O's sluggers all hit a homer tonight. Lee and Guerrero each hit one upping the total to four homers in the game. Derrek Lee also had three RBI as well. Baltimore also had 22 hits by far the most this year. The White Sox had to pull Buehrle in the fourth inning. The bats also lasted all game adding seven of the 13 runs in the seventh and eighth inning. For the first time all year everyone in the lineup got atlas one hit. If the O's can get half of the production they got tonight they should win this series.

Game 3

Danks Gives Up One Hit in Sox Win

White Sox Pitcher John Danks went all nine innings only giving up one hit. Luckily for Balitmore it was a Mark Reynolds homerun. The White Sox would tie the game an inning later in the bottom of the sixth. It was Jake Arrieta's only run suffered. Arrieta gave up eight hits, one earned run and stuck out two. But the real story was Danks, Who had a perfect game going into the fourth until he walked Nick Markakis (who walked twice in the game) and then the no hit bid fell short when Mark Reynolds hit his 11th homer of th year. Jeremy Accardo came for the seventh and eighth pitching two scoreless innings. Then setup man Kevin Gregg came in for the ninth in case, there was a tenth and the O's had a lead they wanted Gonzalez then. Well Gregg with two outs gave up a double to Juan Pierre and then a single Carlos Quentin to score Pierre and give the White Sox a 2-1 victory. You can't blame this loss on the the bullpen. Gregg was pitching good and both players made good hits and Accardo pitched two scoreless. The offense got shut down, plain and simple. The pitchers did their job today.

Game 4

Combo of Pitching and Hitting Propels O's to W

In a game the the Orioles needed they got it. Justin Duchsherer bounced back in a major way in the fourth game of the series. Duchsherer pitched seven innings giving up one run on six hits and stringing out nine. It was almost a role reversal from last night's Danks performance. The bats showed up again too. Baltimore netted two runs in the first three innings giving Duchsherer a 2-0 lead to work with. Duchsherer's only rough inning was the fourth, when Alexi Ramirez singled to open the inning and a batter later Carlos Quentin doubled to score Ramirez. That would be the only run given up in the game for the O's. In the top of the seventh Adam Jones lead off with a solo home run. Edwin Jackson then was pulled for hard throwing rookie Chris Sale. Well at the end of the inning Matt Wieters hit a double that would score Nick Markakis and Derrek Lee, bolstering the lead to 5-1. And in the top of the ninth Derrek Lee hit a two out triple and Vlad followed with the single to left, scoring Lee. Giving the O's a comfortable 6-1 win. Jim Johnson came in the eighth since Gregg pitched in game three. He went three up and three down with a strikeout. With the extra run in the top of the ninth Johnson came back out in the bottom half of the inning. He struck out two and walked one in the ninth but the walk was sandwiched in between a strike out and a ground out. Johnson struck out the final batter of the game. The Orioles have now not won a series in the last four. The split with AL Cetral foes Minnesota and Chicago, and lost to AL East rivals Boston and New York 2-1 a piece. The Birds fly to KC next to see if they can get back on track with a series win.

Re: The Bird is the Word- A Baltimore Orioles MLB 11 The Show Franchise

Roster Movement News

LHRP Mark Hendrickson has been put on the 40 man roster and moved up to the MLB team. RHRP Jason Berken has been moved to AAA. AA SS Robert Andrino has been taken off the 40 man rosters and placed on Waivers, if he clears he will stay in AA.

After a month of split play in left field. Buck Showalter told us after the White Sox series that Felix Pie and Luke Scott will platoon the position. Pie will face the right hand pitchers and Scott will face the lefties.

Baltimore Team Stats

Hitters Analysis
The top five in the order (Roberts, Markakis, Lee, Guerrero and Reynolds) are all hitting over .300. What has helped the offense is Mark Reynolds returned power. He belted 11 homers in the opening month of the season. Vlad is in his 2010 for blasting 9 homers and 21 RBI in April. Adam Jones has been streaky but hitting .268 has helped the team, He does hit in the nine hole. He maybe moved to the six spot because he has stole 12 bases this year and he would keep pressure off of Wieters and Hardy do bat him in. Showalter likes to have speed at the bottom of the lineup. Pie would then be moved if Adam Jones is.

Pitching Analysis
As good as Ace Jeremy Guthrie has pitched this year and its been great. Brian Matusz has the chance at the Cy Young, He has taken a major step forward this year. As mentioned before Jeremy Guthrie is pitching great, but he hasn't got the run support. But so far all five of his starts have been quality starts. He also has a ridiculous WHIP for a starter at 0.94. Right now the O's have four relievers they can rely on in Accardo, Johnson, Gregg and Gonzalez. All four have pitched well. With Lefty Mark Hendrickson coming up starting in May they may have five good relievers. There is also a rumor they may sign former Red Sox Manny Delcarmen. But so far that is a rumor.

The AL East is a four team through April. As Toronto gets healthy they may become a factor as well. The Central is a three team race as expected but what wasn't expected was the Indians leading the division after one month. Another shocker is Chicago's pathetic performance as well. Oakland continues to win out West with their 18-11 record, which is the best in the AL. The Angels have started to make a push. Texas' record is shocking after one month. They are not getting the hitting people expected. And in no shocker the Mariners are just plain bad. The question is does King Felix get traded?

Like in the AL the NL East is a tight race. With a surprising team too in Washington who is off to a hot start. 18 year old Bryce Harper is hitting over .300 so far in the young season. The the NL Central it seems the world is out of order. The Pittsburgh Pirates not only have the best record in the central and NL but the entire MLB! Clint Hurdle has that club playing excellent ball and they are getting good pitching. Out West the Dodgers have joined the race. The Rockies, Giants and Dodgers look to battle it out the rest of the year.
