Yea, Lester is kind of the only leftie I can pitch well with. I seem to have an issue with lefties. I didn't do to bad with Zitto the other game though.

With an unusual lineup as a couple regulars get rest, Alexi Amarista makes his Major League debut and gets his first career hit, showed solid patience and a good eye, looks like he could get a regular spot on the bench after lighting it up in AAA Tacoma. The M's Couldn't get the bats goin as A.J. Burnett burns the M's with 7 almost perfect innings to split the series 1-1.

Re: Fantasy Draft Franchise - Seattle Mariners

Wed, May 18th, 2011

Los Angeles Angels (17-26) Vs. Seattle Mariners (25-28)
Safeco Field

M. Perez (1-3) Vs. M.Pineda (3-4)

2 Errors in the first inning allow LA to score first and set the tempo, but that wouldn't last long as the M's bats came ready to swing for the fences. M. Perez trying to get his 2nd with of the young season, only 19 years old, got beat up, and beat up badly.

Carlos Santana would have Perez' number all game and goes deep twice.

As a result Carlos Santana is the Player of the game:

Game 2 recap:
Zito get shelled, giving up 3 HR's, in only 2 and 2/3 of an inning.

Hanley Ramirez
goes 1-5, but he makes sure it was a big hit, going deep for a grand slam in the 3rd. Casey Kelly goes 5.2 innings and gives up 5 all earned as the Angels roll the M's to split the series 1-1.

Next series the M's travel down the west coast to San Diego to play the Padres who are on a 6 game winning streak.

Series Preview

Game 1

Game 2

Game 3
Photobucket

Seattle has a slight edge in hitting but the Padres look like their pitching is on fire with only a 3.30 team ERA, and with Chris Carpenter leading the National League in wins, this could be a very tough series, but the M's are definitley capable of winning 2 out of 3 if the bats can get going, with Lester and Montgomery on the mound for games 1 and 3, theres a good possibility which ever team can get 1 or 2 runs may win the game.

Re: Fantasy Draft Franchise - Seattle Mariners

Sunday May 22nd, 2011

Seattle Mariners (27-20) @ San Diego Padres (31-15)
Petco Park

Photobucket

Beautiful afternoon for a baseball game in San Diego, but when is it not nice out in San Diego? Mike Montgomery looking for win 2 and to continue to prove he has what it takes to become a regular starter once Ricky Romero comes back. On the hill for the Padres was the Bulldog Tim Hudson with a 5-3 record looking to stay on track.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The M's got to Hudson early and continued to put pressure on as his control wasn't quite there, Leaving the ball up in the zone for the M's to take advantage and get some doubles and a triple from Juan Pierre. Montgomery was able to keep the ball down and had a couple solid innings, but started to tire in the 4th, 5th and 6th as his pitch count was into the 90's in the 6th. The Padres wouldn't stay down as the M's put runs up in 4 consecutive innings. With Gordon Beckham's solo shot in the 8th would make it interesting in the 9th, But Koji came in and went 1-2-3 to get his 7th consecutive save and continue to roll going into the end of May.

Photobucket

Kendry Morales has a huge game as well as Juan Pierre's League Leading 6th, triple of the short season. But Kendry would get the player of the game, as it was well deserved.

Photobucket

The bats stayed hot in the last 2 games of the series after getting shutdown in game 1, only scoreing 1 run as Lester got his 3rd loss of the season in game 1. The M's come back to win 2 straight and take the series.

Photobucket

Injury Report :

Blaine Hardy Fractures his wrist and is expected to be out 1-2 months.

Series Preview:

Seattle (28-20) @ Minnesota (26-21)

Michael Pineda (4-4), 4.66 ERA Vs. John Danks (4-1) 2.48 ERA
Barry Zito (3-3), 5.10 ERA Vs. J.A. Happ (3-3), 3.35 ERA
Jon Lester (4-3), 3.62 ERA Vs. Jake Arrieta (1-4), 7.71 ERA

Looks like another winnable series with how the M's bats are swinging. Lester will look to close the series in Game 3 and redeem himself from the disappointing series opener he lost against the Padres. But overall it should be a solid, interesting series.

Re: Fantasy Draft Franchise - Seattle Mariners

May 25th, 2011

Seattle @ Minnesota

Twins get on Lester before he settles in and get the W. Lester ends up going 6.1 innings and stikes out 6 but gets the L as the M's cant catch onto Arrieta who brought his best stuff for todays game.

Injuries have caught up to the M's as plenty of young'ns get the start today and it would prove costly.

3 Early errors sealed the deal for the Twins to get runs on the board and with Arrieta thwoing darts, it would hold up for the win.

And with his best game of the season the Player of the Game goes to:

The Twins take the series winning game 1 and game 3 both by 3 runs. M's get the W with Zito on the mound in game 2. Mariners are getting hit hard with the injury bug, so lets see if they can have a solid 3-4 weeks as players like Santana, Thome, and Blaine get healthy.

Next the M's go back home for a 3 game series against the New York Yankees after getting a much needed day off.

Series Preview:

May 27th: Jamie Garcia (3-3), 3.94 ERA Vs. Carl Pavano (4-4), 4.55 ERA
May 28th: Joe Saunders (3-4), 5.19 ERA Vs. Mike Montgomery (2-1), 3.86 ERA
May 29th: Livan Hernandez (0-2), 5.46 ERA Vs. Michael Pineda (4-5), 5.05 ERA

Seattle - New York
29-22 W/L 29-22
4.11 ERA 4.01
.282 AVG .275

Pretty even series here, solid pitching and hitting for both clubs. Look for Evan Longoria to get out of his slump here at home and hit the ball well. The weather should be nice and if the wind is blowing there's possibilities of some home runs or some pitching duels, Both teams lead their divisions and there is a possibility of the M's can stay healthy that they meet the Yankees in the playoffs.

New York Yankees (30-23) @ Seattle Mariners (30-23)
Livan Hernandez (0-2) Vs. Michael Pineda (4-5)
Safeco Field

As Longoria tries to get his bat back on track, Livan Hernandez looks for the first win of the season. The game started slow, then in the 2nd the M's got 2 on the board and Pineda didnt even flinch, Throwing 7 shutout innings and allowing only 2 hits, he coasted to an easy win.

M's win the series after losing the opener, Moving their record to 31-23, but with a lot of injuries still question marks, the M's have to decide if they want to try to make a run at the playoffs and possibly make a move to aquire another big name pitcher or fill a void in the lineup with so many injuries.

The M's stay at home as another team from the AL East comes into town, the Baltimore Orioles. In 3rd they are in a tight race with the Red Sox and Yankees for that #1 spot in the East, with a record of 28-26 they cant be taken lightly as they showed last time these two teams met, even though the M's took the series, they showed they have major power in the lineup with Mauer, Fielder, and Jose Reyes who is having an MVP like first 2 months of the season hitting .335 with 5 HR and 17 RBI's and 17 stolen bases.

Re: Fantasy Draft Franchise - Seattle Mariners

May 31th, 2011

Baltimore Orioles @ Seattle Mariners
J. Guthrie Vs. J. lester
Safeco Field

The game went back and forth with each team matching each other like a chess game. Lots of hits for the M's didnt lead to lots of points in the runs column, with runners left in scoring position in 5 innings for the M's. Lester was on his game today, throwin darts all over the zone and had batters guessing from the opening pitch.

The game comes down to extra innings and the M's Have Evan Longoria on 2nd with 1 out in the 9th and Domonic Brown strikes out and Kendry flies out to center. Daniel Bard comes in and is throwing fire, strikeing out the side in the 11th and the M's would capitolize on a wild pitch, and a deep double by Domonic Brown. Then with 2 outs, 2-2 count Jorge Posada gets a 4 seam low and away, Posada goes the other way with it in the gap and Domonic Brown scores from 2nd easily and the M's take the first extra inning game of the season in an **** pitching duel through 11 innings.

(Teammates coagulating Posada on a game winning single)

The month of May was a good one for the Mariners going 19-9 and securing 1st place in the AL West by winning series against the Angels and Texas.

The M's deal SP Carl Povano, C David Ross, and SP Brody Colvin (an "A") in return for Josh Beckett who has 4 years left on his contract at only 30 years old should be able to help contribute to the other young pitchers on the staff. Plus the M's get Chris Sale the prodigy RP from the Struggling Brewers. Possible trade talks with the Pirates and Giants also with Joba Chamberlain on the block this week as well.

Starting June the M's finish the series with the Orioles and then the Tampa Bay Rays fly in to face the M's, sitting in last in the AL East the Rays haven't got the pitching they had hoped for from Bronson Arroyo and the staff. As well as only hitting .259, the bats just aren't there. The M's look like they are in a good position going into June as Catcher Carlos Santana should be back within a week, Jim Thome is coming off the bench and healing that inflammed shoulder he injured about two weeks back and Jamey Carroll is making a speedy recovery with a broken ankle and should be back in a week or two as well.

Series Preview:
Phil Coke (2-4), 6.75 ERA Vs. Mike Montgomery (3-1), 3.22 ERA
Randy Wells (3-2), 3.93 ERA Vs. Michael Pineda (5-5), 4.45 ERA
Brian Duensing (2-6), 4.67 ERA Vs. Barry Zito ( 4-4), 5.12 ERA
Bronson Arroyo (3-7), 5.09 ERA Vs. Jon Lester (4-4), 3.53 ERA
