Re: The History of the St. Louis Cardinals (OOTP11)
St. Louis Cardinals 1903 Preview Manager: John Gonzales (159-121, 1 World Championship) Cardinals Top Five Players C #37 Mike Grady: The Cardinals got Grady in an offseason trade with Washington that sent off hot prospect Homer Smoot. Grady will be put in the cleanup role for the Cardinals due to his great power. Last year Grady hit 9 balls out of the park for Washington and has hit 28 in his 9 year career. Grady is 33 years old so the Cardinals are likely getting him at the end of his productive years, but they were happy to pay the price because they needed some offense badly to help their quickly aging team get back to the World Series and defend their crown. The Kennett Square, Pennsylvania native should put up big numbers in a very talented Cardinals offense this season. SP #21 Chappie McFarland: McFarland had a very good rookie season rounding out the rotation for the World Champion Cardinals. While his record sat at .500 with a 17-17 showing, he had an ERA of 1.87, which allowed the Cardinals to have a chance in virtually every game he pitched in. The 28 year old from White Hall, Arkansas is looking to back up that impressive rookie campaign with an even stronger one in the 1903 season. LF #13 Jesse Burkett: Father Time is finally looking like he has caught up with the 34 year old Jesse Burkett. His number has fallen far short of his lofty projections in the last two seasons, especially last season when he hit .258, almost .100 points lower than where most thought he would finish the season. His RBI production is up though, as are his stolen base totals, but the numbers would be much higher if he hit like people know that he can. A good season is a must if Burkett wants to prove to the St. Louis fans that it isn't time to start looking for a left fielder to replace him and his aging frame. 1B #33 Dan McGann: The 31 year old from Shelbyville, Tennessee had a very productive season for the Cardinals last year. His average dipped to .274 but he produced his 2nd highest RBI total ever at 92. This was due to the Cardinals switching him over to the five spot in the lineup, a move that paid off huge for the Redbirds. All indications are that McGann progressed nicely in the offseason as well, with coaches with the Cardinals believing that in the new updated Cardinals offense he will be able to go back to his 2 spot in the lineup and score a ton of runs hitting ahead of the likes of Burkett, Grady, and Heidrick. SP #22 Mike O'Neill: The youngest player on the Cardinals top 5 list, 3rd year Irishman Mike O'Neill is looking to have a dominant year on the mound for St. Louis. The sinkerball pitcher almost won 20 games last year as he posted a very nice 19-12 record to go along with a 1.94 ERA. O'Neill has improved his stuff in the offseason and is poised to repeat last year's great performance. He is a very important piece to the Cardinals dominant pitching rotation, all of whom are under the age of 30. Starting Rotation (1902 Stats, with Age and Career Stats in Parenthesis) 1. Bob Wicker (24): 24-11, 2.16 ERA, 148 K (26-11, 2.10 ERA, 154 K) 2. Mike O'Neill (25): 19-12, 1.94 ERA, 113 K (33-28, 2.13 ERA, 213 K) 3. Re: The History of the St. Louis Cardinals (OOTP11)
I always like reading up on these historical dynasties. They get pretty good once you get about 10 years in and have developed some history within the game itself.
Are you going to do a 9 game world series this year? |

Re: The History of the St. Louis Cardinals (OOTP11)
I'm planning on doing the 9 game series this year, I went with the default schedules for all the years and it sets the series lengths right I think. |
