Rise to the Top: The Texas Rangers

Rise to the Top: The Texas Rangers

As a fan of the Texas Rangers since 2001 when A-Rod arrived in the MetroPlex, I've always enjoyed playing baseball games with the Rangers but have had a hard time consistently keeping the franchise going. This is where I'm going to turn to OS and hope that I can keep myself motivated by posting the stats, league leaders, rosters, and what nots. I hope that you all enjoy the thread and I'll have the first update later on today.

Re: Rise to the Top: The Texas Rangers

Boston Red Sox @ Texas Rangers

Series #1 Preview - Games #1-3

Pitching Probables:

Clay Bucholz (0-0, 0.00) vs. Colby Lewis (0-0, 0.00)

Series Notes:

The Boston Red Sox will debut their new off-season acquisitions in Arlington, Texas this weekend as they visit the Rangers to open up the 2011 season. The Red Sox have highly touted free agent signings from the 2010 off-season in OF Carl Crawford and 1B Adrian Gonzalez. The Red Sox are certainly the pre-season favorites to make a run at the World Series but they will have no easy task this weekend as they take on the defending American League Champions and the 2010 AL MVP, Josh Hamilton. The Rangers will debut their newest acquisition on Opening Day as Brandon Webb, former Diamondback and Cy Young Winner, will take the mound for the first time since Opening Day 2009. The Rangers hope that Webb will return to his pre-injury form and if so the Rangers certainly could be back in the Fall Classic this year.

That's not the only Ranger however that will be debuting as the Rangers will have a new half of the battery tandem now in Yorvit Torrealba and Mike Napoli as both men will share reigns as catchers this year. But perhaps the biggest signing for the Rangers this off season is numerous Gold Glove Winner and former Red Sox third baseman Adrian Beltre. Beltre is coming off an outstanding 2010 campaign in his lone season with the Red Sox as he hit for a .321 average and finished with 28 Home Runs and 102 RBI's putting him on his first ever MLB All Star Team last season.

Many questions surround the Rangers this season but power and offense will not be one of them. How will the Rangers fare in their opening weekend series against the Red Sox?

Upcoming Series:

April 4-6: Seattle @ Texas
April 5-7: Boston @ Cleveland

Dallas Morning News

Rangers Ride Offense to Opening Day Victory

Arlington, TX - The Texas Rangers rode their high powered offense to a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day 2011. The Rangers were backed by their newest pitcher in Brandon Webb as he would allow only three hits and two runs - the biggest hit being the J.D. Drew homer in the top of the seventh in what would be Webb's only runs allowed. However despite his great comeback start due to the Rangers not being able to hold the lead, Webb would not get the victory.

The Rangers would end up receiving great performances from David Murphy's two RBI's and 3B Adrian Beltre as Beltre would crush a bomb in the bottom of the eighth giving the Rangers the 4-3 lead and what would ultimately be the one that would blow things open for the Rangers. Despite having two errors in the early parts of the game, Beltre would more than enough make up for it with his long shot that put the Rangers ahead.

Neftali Feliz, the 2010 AL Rookie of the Year would immediately come into the game in the top of the ninth inning looking to shut the door and he would do so retiring the side 1-2-3 as he would earn his first save of the new campaign and close the game out for the Rangers.
