Re: The Eye of the Tiger: A Detroit Tigers Franchise (MLB 2K12)
Hey dude like this stuff its interesting. I'm a Tribe fan but still like to read up on your tigers chise (saw you got swept by the Tribe (: ) BUt I personally like the old style better.
Re: The Eye of the Tiger: A Detroit Tigers Franchise (MLB 2K12)
Hey all, sorry I haven't been posting series and recaps...but to be fair, I haven't been able to play games either. Classes are winding down and finals/projects are stacking up...its kicking my butt right now.
But fear not! I just finished the Boston series this morning and once the Tigers/Red Sox game is over today I'll get that up for you. Plus its the end of the month! So updates on standings and league leaders are on deck. Lots of content coming today so stay tuned!

Series Recap for May 28th-31st
Detroit (28-20) @ Boston (24-24)
Game 1: Detroit Needs Extras to Knock of Sox 3-2
Recap: Detroit got off to a strong start in the series behind one of the better outings from Rick Porcello today. He went 6 strong allowing 2 earned runs. It looked for awhile like he would be the losing pitcher, but his offense rallied late behind Andy Dirks and Alex Avila. Dirks drove in the game tying RBI and Avila drove in Dirks in the 10th inning to secure the lead. Papa Grande slammed the door for Detroit as they win their 29th game of the year. Also, Danny Worth goes to the DL with a hamstring pull so Ramon Santiago will take his spot in the starting lineup.
Game 2: Aceves gem outshines Turner's in 3-1 Red Sox win
Recap: Detroit thought they had a solid chance to take a 2-0 series lead against Boston, but the fact of the matter was that Alfredo Aceves outpitched Jacob Turner today. Aceves dominated the Tigers with a complete game, 8 hitter. The only run of the game came from a Miguel Cabrera RBI single that drove in Ryan Raburn (who went 4-4 on the day!)

Game 3: Tigers bounce back behind JV complete game
Recap: Detroit bounced right back from that loss to Boston yesterday with a convincing win against them today 5-0. Justin Verlander wins his 7th game of the season with a complete game shutout, he only struck out 4 batters but looks absolutely filthy at times. Fielder homered off Lester to break the scoreless tie in the 6th inning and they never looked back from there. Lester also pitched a complete game, but his had 5 earned runs to its credit and a loss tacked next to his name on the score sheet. Also: Ramon Santiago with his first extra base hit of the season, a 3-R HR off Lester in the 9th to put the game away for Detroit.

Game 4: Boston Earns the Split behind Miller's Bullpen Outing
Recap: Detroit lost the series finale in heartbreaking, 7-6 fashion today. Doug Fister pitched extremely well, allowing 4 earned over 6 innings and scattering 10 hits, but it wasn't enough to keep the pen from collapsing. Boston beat up on Daniel Schlereth, Joaquin Benoit, and Andy Oliver for 3 earned runs on 4 hits in 2 innings between the three of them. Oliver takes the loss but the story is Andrew Miller. Miller came out of the pen in relief of Beckett in the 4th inning, he locked down his former team for the remainder of the game and earned the victory.

Breaking News: Yankees Shock Baseball by Re-Acquiring Burnett from Pirates
When the Yankees traded away AJ Burnett at the beginning of the season, everyone thought it was for the better and that Burnett would like Pittsburgh better than New York...too bad Burnett won't get to find this out. New York brought Burnett back in for major league vet (who was playing in AAA before the deal) Magglio Ordonez and minor league right hander John Salas (fake player, 67 OVR with 3* potential.) Burnett was told of the deal before he was going to take the mound in Pittsburgh yesterday, in the post game press conference after pitching 6 shutout innings and earning his 5th win of the season, Burnett was clearly not happy when addressing the trade.
"What the hell? I liked it here in Pittsburgh and they go off and deal me for a washed up outfielder and some stupid kid? I'm f***ing 5-4 with a 3.80 ERA, why send away your best pitcher for nothing in return!?!?!?"
This could be trouble for the Yankee locker room, the Yanks are in a tie with Toronto for 1st in the division right now and they have done fairly well for themselves as of late. If Burnett comes in and blows things up, it could end the Yanks hopes of returning to the playoffs.
Burnett is expected to start the series finale in Detroit against the Tigers and rookie phenom Jacob Turner.

Series Recap for June 1st-3rd:
New York Yankees (29-22) @ Detroit Tigers (30-22)
Game 1: Pineda No-Hit Bid pushes Yanks past Tigers
Recap: Detroit really struggled against Michael Pineda today, they mustered 2 hits and 1 run off him as he dominated the game. Pineda tossed a complete game with 10Ks and earned the victory in the 7-1 schlacking Detroit took. Scherzer (3-8) continues to get beat up as he allowed 5 earned in 4 innings of work with 2 gopher-balls surrendered (one to A-Rod and the other to Gardner...) Prince Fielder and Ryan Raburn got the only run of the game for Detroit as Raburn tripled with one out in the 7th and Fielder got a SAC Fly to give Detroit their lone run.

Game 2: Raburn Walk-off Homer lifts Tigers past Yanks 7-4
Recap: Detroit had Rick Porcello on the mound for them today, and he has had his struggles throughout this season...today was better for Ricky. He went 6.1 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in a no decision. Prince Fielder homered for the 13th time this season off Kuroda early on and Detroit had a 4-2 deficit entering the 8th inning against Soriano. Miguel Cabrera doubled home a run off him to make it a 4-3 ball game. After locking down the Yankees in the top of the 9th, Detroit rallied furiously against Mariano Rivera to tie the game up. David Robertson helped lock down Detroit in the 10th and 11th innings, but finally was beat as the 1st two runners reached in the 12th inning. After a sacrifice bunt from Reggie Willits, Ryan Raburn had men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out...he cracked a 3-1 fastball 379 feet into the left field stands to give Detroit the win. Octavio Dotel earned the victory for Detroit tonight.

Game 3: Turner Brilliant in 3-0 Win
Recap:
Jacob Turner was the story on this day for Detroit, he pitched 8 unbelievable innings of baseball on his way to his 7th win of the season. He allowed only 3 hits, walked one and struck out 9 Yankees. Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young hit HRs today, Miguel's first in 9 games. AJ Burnett was good, but not good enough to win today. His postgame comments make it sound like he wants out ASAP, "I go the distance, allow 3 runs to an amazing offensive team...and lose the game. Pittsburgh would have scored me more runs man, I just can't believe they want me here...after not wanting me here 2 months ago. Make up your mind Steinbrenner, I can only deal with your *explitive* for so long."

NEXT SERIES: June 5th-7th
Cleveland (21-32) @ Detroit (32-23)
Re: The Eye of the Tiger: A Detroit Tigers Franchise (MLB 2K12)
Leyland calls out team, makes simple proclaimation: Win Against Cleveland.
DETROIT, MI-- Jim Leyland's Tigers have been nothing short of amazing through the first 50 or so games this season, they've beaten traditional superpowers, cellar-dwellers, and everyone in-between. Well, almost everyone that is. Detroit has really been good against everyone they've played...except Cleveland. Detroit dropped the first three games against their division rivals from Ohio this year and two of those games just weren't pretty, with the third being a blown save from Valverde (his only one of the season thus far.) Leyland realizes his team is in the lead now, but if they keep dropping games to division rivals...they could be sitting at home in October.
"Look, our guys need to win against our division. If we can't do that, we won't get to play other teams in October because we'll be on our couches watching it on TV. Cleveland isn't a great squad this year and we need to jump on them early and often...instead of letting them get confidence against us. If they do that, we could be in for a long season."
Leyland also said that OF Brennan Boesch could return later this week in Cincinnati against the Reds. Expect him to fill back into the leadoff spot, where he was raking as one of the hottest hitters in the league before going down with the groin pull two weeks ago.
In other news, Detroit has 4 players leading in the All-Star voting. Doug Fister, Jacob Turner, and Justin Verlander lead the three-headed monster of a rotation Detroit has featured, and are all three in prime position to make the squad. And of course, 3B Miguel Cabrera is the leading vote getter overall and poised to start the game at 3rd.
