Re: This is Braves Country | An Atlanta Braves Franchise (The Show 2012)
Braves Acquire Jones from Baltimore, Call-Up Teheran June 18th, 2012
Atlanta, GA (AP) -- With just a little over one month until the trade deadline, it was nearing the time when teams start to make moves. The Atlanta Braves made the first big splash by sending starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens, top pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino, and third baseman Juan Francisco to the Baltimore Orioles for Adam Jones and low-level pitching prospect Matt Hobgood. "We felt we needed to do something. We've got a glutton of young pitching depth and, to be honest, we just don't have room for all of them; now or in the future. With Chipper aging and retiring after the season we felt like now was the time to use some of our valuable trade pieces and add a big right-handed bat we can plug into the lineup. By acquiring Jones we can now make Martin [Prado] the everyday third-baseman and also use him at second-base to spell Uggla." Said Braves GM Frank Wren. Uggla, hitting just .246 on the season, may be the first to see some time on the bench according to Braves manager Freddi Gonzalez. "Right now Dan just isn't hitting. We're by no means giving up on him but by adding Jones it gives us more flexibility in the infield by moving Prado back to his more natural position, second-base." Jones will debut in the Braves line-up tonight against the Yankees. He is currently batting .258 with 8 home-runs and 27 runs-batted-in. His speed makes him a versatile player who can be plugged into a number of different positions in the line-up.
The move also allows the Braves to make top pitching prospect Julio Teheran a permanent fixture in the starting rotation. Teheran -- 7-1, 2.38 ERA, 83 SO, 77.2 IP in AAA -- is considered one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball. Signed by Atlanta when he was just 16 years old in 2007, he made his official big league debut last season in two spot starts. "Julio had some bumps in the road last year. He wasn't awful by any means in his two starts but he also wasn't great. We just feel he's done all he can on the minor league level and now is the time to give him a shot as an every fifth day starter in the bigs." Said Gonzalez. Teheran could make his first 2012 start in game three against the Yankees but will more than likely appear for the first time against the Red Sox in Fenway Park on June 22nd or 23rd.
Atlanta, currently 42-25 and in first place in the NL East, sits 2.5 games up on the red hot Philadelphia Phillies who are 18-2 in their last 20 games. Baltimore, on the other hand, is in sell mode once again as they sit 12 games under .500 and in last place by 13.0 games in the brutal AL East. While Jair Jurrjens is the headliner of the deal on their side, it's Arodys Vizcaino who may prove to be the best player in the deal. Vizcaino, an A prospect, is considered by some a top 25 prospect in all of baseball. He proved himself last season in the Atlanta bullpen but most scouts feel his future is as a top of the rotation starter.

Jones Impresses in Atlanta Debut with Two Home Runs and a Double
Adam Jones is congratulated after hitting his first of two home runs on the day
New York, NY (AP) -- Maybe it was the fact he has more familiarity with the Yankee pitchers, or perhaps it was the adrenaline of playing for a new team; whatever it was, it worked for Adam Jones who went 3/4 in his Atlanta debut hitting two home-runs and knocking in two runs.
"I don't know what it was. I just got good pitches, made good contact, and the ball did the rest. It was nice, though, to make such an impact in my first game with the team. I will admit, I am excited about being on a playoff contender and the feeling of having something to play for on a daily basis is nice." -Adam Jones, Atlanta Braves
