Re: Sunrise in San Diego-The Padre Way

Normally, we would kick back here and introduce all of the offseason moves but as I began to get all of that together, I suddenly hit a stroke of genius. What if we played some Instructional League baseball? That way, we get to see the progress of multiple prospects. Now its certainly a project, I have to re-rate and create some players but hey, it sounds like fun; staking together a bunch of top prospects to face other organization's finest. Normally, the real instructional league is 38 games but honestly, I would rather not bore you with that and take up too much space so therefore, we're gonna play just 12 and assume they are gonna get some extra work in.

Team wise, its gonna be the teams that have Spring Training down here:

  • San Diego Padres
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Texas Rangers
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Oakland A's
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Arizona D-Backs
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Chicago Cubs
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • Seattle Mariners
  • San Francisco Giants
  • Cleveland Indians
  • Colorado Rockies
Man, that's a lot of teams. But any way, here's how its going to work. Each team will put together a 25 man Roster and will play against each other at the Spring Training stadiums. They can include prospects or Major League Players, unlike real life. Now due to the fact that 12 games is going to take up a ton of space, I am going to update about 4 or 5 of the games.

I know, most of you are probably curious about the team but I've only got a few spots determined. So, here's what I have so far:

Roy Hobbs-RF, Isaah Booth-LF, Walter Weickel-RHP, Nate Freiman- 1B/DH, Nick Travieso-RHP, Lucas Giolito-RHP, Justin Friend-RP, Hector Noesi-CP, Keyvius Sampson-RHP, Cory Spangenberg-2B, Jonathan Galvez-SS, Josh Spence-RP, Byron Buxton-CF, Ayds Portillo-RHP, Eric Harmen-RP.

I'm also going to include the two relief pitchers drafted in 2013, but for some reason, their names escape me. This is going to be a loaded team with just about all of our top prospects minus Max Fried who was at 180 IP in 2013 and we felt it wouldn't be wise to risk him down there. On that team, only Spence, Noesi and Harmen have pitched in the Major Leagues so this should be a relatively young squad.

No doubt. He's slightly underrated so when I start, I'm gonna rerate him with a calculator. The more I read about him, the higher he goes on my top prospects list!

He really should be mid-high C... No clue why he's a D.

That's what I'm wondering! I'm not sold on his potential but his overall production SHOULD warrant that change.

Yeah, his WBC really swayed me.

I've never had the honor of watching him in person but from the video I have seen, everything looks great and it's a wonder people aren't drooling over him. A 6'6 1st baseman who can hit 30+ homeruns? Glad to say he's part of my organization.
