Re: From A Mess To Amazin': The New York Mets (MLB The Show 13)

McHugh Impresses, One Upped By Halladay in Mets Loss

McHugh did exactly what he was asked to do going into his first start of the 2013 season. Keep the ball in the park, keep the game as close as possible. The offense will do the rest. McHugh did what he was told, putting up an impressive 6.0 IP, 3H 1ER 7K stat line. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't hold up their end of the bargain as McHugh would get the loss in this one.

Everybody in the MLB knows you have to be on your A-game if you want to have a shot against Roy Halladay. When he's on, he is basically unhittable. Tonight, it was a combination of untouchable Philadelphia pitching and an absence of New York bats which got Roy the win tonight. He went out there for 6 innings, surrendering only 4 his, no runs, and striking out 6. His ERA lowers to 4.62 on the year.

The Mets would only get one more baserunner the rest of the way, as the Philly bullpen did it's job, shutting the Mets out 1-0. Papelbon ended the game by striking out 2 in the last inning to secure his 4th save in his 4th attempt.

The Mets have entered a bit of a funk, striking out 13 times tonight after being shut down last night as well. Tomorrow they will put the ball in Shaun Marcum's (1-0) hands and try to avoid the sweep from the division rivals.

Good luck. The Met's were 1 of the teams I considered playing with after starting over. They have potential to have a great young staff, a future All-Star C and great players at 1B and 3B in Davis and Wright, but other then that you have a lot of fill players. Especially the OF. Which means trades and FA should be a lot of fun. Lucky for you the Met's have past experience in being spenders.

Ran into your stuff when you started up with Boise, thanks for the good luck wish

The Mets have finally gathered some cornerstones and now we need to just fill out whats left. A sneakpeek at the future: I'm willing to invest some big time money into a star in the outfield, but if it turns into another Jason Bay scenario I don't know what I'll do lol

Clash of the Titans In New York

Nationals vs Mets.jpg

Tonight, New York star pitcher Matt Harvey will go up against established ace Stephen Strasburg as the Washington Nationals (8-7) take on the New York Mets (7-9) right here in Queens.

Harvey is looking to improve on his current 2-1 record with a 2.31 ERA. He has a team leading 23 strikeouts in a team leading 23.1 innings. Only walking 5, and giving up 6 earned runs this season, all 3 of his starts have been deemed quality starts.

Strasburg has been unstoppable so far this year. In 3 starts, he is 2-0, 2 of which have been complete game shut outs, and has a .75 ERA on the year. He too leads his team with 23 strikeouts in a team high 24 innings, walking only 5 and giving up 2 runs so far this year.

This will be the first game in the series as the Mets try to gain one step closer to .500 on the year.

Strasburg Proves Why He is One of the Best, Blanks Mets

Steve Strasburg is one of the best pitchers in baseball. After tonight his ERA has lowered to 0.58 . Yes, you read that correctly. After 4 starts, Strasburg has an earned run average of .58. That's just more than half a run. The young phenom fanned 8 Mets in 7 innings pitched, giving up just 5 hits and no runs. The bullpen cleaned up the rest of the game with 2 more shut out innings as the Mets would lose 4-0.

Harvey's effort tonight was commendable, giving up 6 hits, 3 runs, while striking out 6 in 7 innings of baseball. The Mets have more than once failed to produce offensively this season, and if things don't turn around expect the Metropolitan front office to make some changes very soon.

Player of the Game: Steve Strasburg 7.0 IP, 5H, 0ER, 8SO

Notables:

Re: From A Mess To Amazin': The New York Mets (MLB The Show 13)

End of the Month Report

Well folks, Matt Lamb here, and the end of the first month of our regular season has come to a close. Our Metropolitans are sitting at 11-12, in third place. We're tied with the Nats, and our 4.5 games out of first. Heres a recap of this past month:

Team Rankings:

Batting Average: 24th - .230

Runs: T-25th - 77

Hits: 27th - 174

Home Runs: 12th - 21

Stolen Bases: T-20th - 15

Walks: 20th - 66

Strike Outs (Batting): 8th - 171

Strike Outs(Pitching): 12th - 190

ERA: 4th - 2.97

Saves: T-15th - 6

What does this all mean?? Despite spectacular pitching, the offense just isn't cutting it. We need our players to start getting on base, taking more pitches, drawing walks, and then we need our big bats to drive in those runners. We can never chain together enough hits to really get anything going. Expect some changes soon if the offense continues to struggle.

There you have it folks, those are your New York Mets after one month of ball.

Also! The New York Mets have activated SP Dillon Gee from the disabled list. They then optioned Josh Edgin to Triple-A Las Vegas. Collin McHugh will be moved into the LRP role with Greg Burke moving into the set-up man position. The Mets have also signed 18year old outfielder Wullmer Bacerra (2 yrs / 95K). Bacerra will start in Class-A ball.
