Game #28
BALTIMORE 6, SEATTLE 5 (11)

The Baltimore Orioles ended their three game skid on this base hit.

4/29/13
Seattle, WA (AP) – The Baltimore Orioles blew a late lead, then rallied for a 6-5 extra inning victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday evening at Safeco Field. Catcher Matt Wieters led the offensive attack for the O's, going 3 for 4 with a home run and driving in two runs.

This one went back and forth throughout. The Mariners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on a Jesus Montero RBI base hit.

Baltimore (9-17) would tie it in the fifth on a Matt Wieters sacrifice fly. But the M's immediately got the run back in the bottom half of the fifth when Brendan Ryan tripled home Jesus Montero.

Nick Markakis doubled home a pair of runs in the sixth to chase starter Hisashi Iwakuma and put the Orioles in front 3-2. Iwakuma was relatively effective in this one, going five plus innings and allowing just the three runs on seven hits.

Jesus Montero's third base hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth, drove home Raul Ibanez to tie the game at 3-3.

Matt Wieters greeted Yeorvis Medina rudely in the seventh, taking his second pitch and hitting it 425 feet over the centerfield wall to put Baltimore back in front 4-3. Chris Davis hit a monster home run over the scoreboard in left to open the eighth off of Medina to put the O's up by two.

The Mariners (14-14) looked like they would tie it or take the lead after a Kyle Seager RBI double made it 5-4 and left runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the eighth. But Pedro Strop got Jesus Montero to strike out, Kelly Shoppach to ground out to end the threat.

Closer Jim Johnson came on in the ninth and was locked in a battle with pinch hitter Michael Saunders. Saunders worked a nine pitch at bat and took a ball on pitch eight that looked like strike three. On the very next pitch hit slammed the ball into the right field seats to tie it at 5-5. A visibly angry Johnson had words for the home plate umpire as did Manager Buck Showalter. Showalter was ejected from the game but Johnson was not.

In the eleventh, Adam Jones singled to open the inning. Nolan Reimold hit a double play grounder to first, but it went through Mike Morse's legs and into right. J.J. Hardy bounced back to pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen, who threw to third to get the lead runner. Matt Weiters singled to center to load the bases. Manny Machado then looped one over Mike Morse's head into right for a base hit to score pinch runner Brian Roberts to put the O's up 6-5.

Seattle went down in order in the bottom half as Troy Patton (1-1) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Tom Wilhelmsen (1-1) took the loss for the M's.

The series resumes on Tuesday evening with Blake Beavan (3-0, 2.35) going up against Wei Yin Chen (2-2, 4.80).

Game #29
BALTIMORE 3, SEATTLE 1 (10)

Mike Morse is thrown out at third to end the game.

4/30/13
Seattle, WA (AP) – The Baltimore Orioles used a little bit of their extra inning magic to steal another one from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday evening, 3-1 at Safeco Field. J.J. Hardy hit a three-run home run off of closer Tom Wilhelmsen in the top of the tenth to send the Orioles past the slumping Mariners.

Manager Eric Wedge took full responsibility for this loss. He let starter Blake Beavan go back out in the tenth to take the mound. Beavan gave up a lead off single to Chris Davis and a single to Nolan Reimold before getting the hook from Wedge. "Blake had only thrown 86 pitches and he was going strong," said Wedge afterwards. "I thought that I would give him a chance to win it."

Tom Wilhelmsen came on in relief and for the second straight night, could not get the job done. He gave up a three-run home run to the first batter he faced in J.J. Hardy.

Beavan (3-1) took the loss despite nine shut out innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out five.

Seattle (14-15) had a chance in the bottom of the tenth. Franklin Gutierrez singled with two outs and Mike Morse was hit by a pitch. Kendrys Morales came up with a chance to tie it. He singled through the left side to score Gutierrez, but Morse was gunned down at third to end the game.

Wei Yin Chen pitched seven shutout innings for the O's, scattering seven hits and working out of trouble most of the night. The Mariners stranded runners in scoring position in the first five innings. Jake Arrieta (2-0) picked up the win in relief with JIm JOhnson getting his seventh save on the year.

The series concludes on Wednesday evening with Brandon Maurer (3-1, 1.78) scheduled to pitch against Jason Hammel (1-4, 8.46).

Game #30
SEATTLE 5, BALTIMORE 4

Raul Ibanez takes Jason Hammel deep in the sixth.

5/01/13
Seattle, WA (AP) – The Seattle Mariners ended a three game losing streak on Wednesday evening and closed their seven game home stand on a winning note with a come from behind 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Safeco Field. Raul Ibanez capped a five run sixth inning rally with a two-run home run to complete the comeback.

Baltimore grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth as Chris Davis took Brandon Maurer deep to left. They would extend the lead to 4-0 in the top of teh sixth when J.J. Hardy hot a two-run home run to center, it was his fourth on the year and second in two games.

Jason Hammel (1-5) was cruising for Baltimore, allowing no hits and walking two over the first five innings. But he ran into trouble in the sixth. Dustin Ackley homered to dead center to open the inning. Michael Saunders lined a one-out single to right. Jason Bay then singled to left with two outs and advanced on the throw.

Kendrys Morales lined a single back up the middle to score both Saunders and Bay to cut the lead to 4-3. Manager Buck Showalter stuck with Hammel and Raul Ibanez made him pay for it, taking Hammel over the wall in left center to put Seattle in front 5-4.

The Mariners bullpen then locked the game down for Brandon Maurer and allowed him to improve to (4-1). He pitched six innings, allowing the four runs on seven hits. He struck out six while walking just one. Chalrie Furbush pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first Major League save.

Seattle (15-15) will have an off day tomorrow before traveling east for five games as they hit Toronto for three games this weekend and then go to Pittsburgh for a quick two game series. Felix Hernandez (2-2, 4.93) is scheduled to face Mark Buerle (3-2, 3.41) in Friday evening's series opener.
