Re: Under New Managment: A Crimson Hose Dynasty
Winter Meetings Day 1 Recap:
The first day of the meetings is over. We didn't have any major signings today, but the offers can up by the dozens. There was a few International Free agent signings. We have the update following up.
Marco Ordonez, 3B, DR (A): This 18 year old is presumably the best infielder available. The Astros have the biggest signing bonus pool, so it made sense for both parties. Ordonez has the ability to play all OF positions as well as SS. He is a natural at third with a gold-glove calibre defense, he also possesses plus-plus power from the right side and is projected to hit 30-40 HR a season at his MLB Peak. He can easily take over Dominguez when ready for the show. He signed a 4 year contract with a bonus of around 2.87mm. His MLB ETA is slated for late 2014.
Caleb Stephenson, LHP, Sweden (B): This Sweedish Lefty produces everything you want in a left handed pitcher. He is a tall (6'7"), muscular, hard throwing man. At 20, his fastball reaches and average of 96 and has once even been seen going into the triple didgets. He does have control problems, but they should get better as he gets older. He can be a solid #3 or back of the rotation guy, with a floor of long-reliver. The Red Sox picked him up to add on to their already stacked pitching prospects display. He signed for 3 years for a 1.31mm bonus
Day 2:
I figured I'd mix Day 1&2, and 3&4 together to save space. Here is a recap of day 2 of 4 in the 2013 Winter Meetings!
Dallas Braden: Not a T15 Free agent, he was ranked #17 though. Played for the Red Sox last year after a long stint with the A's, now he's back in Oakland. He signed a 3.94m/2year contract with them. Many Oakland fans believ the Red Sox stint helped him regain issues he had. Pretty rare you see a team let a guy go, and then one season later get him back.
Tim Lincecum: Ah, finally, a legit signing! Lincecum (Ranked #5) had extensive talks with the Padres over the past few days. We thought it was nothing, but the Padres continue to express their willingness to compete. After acquiring Ellsbury at the deadline for one of their best prospects, Hedges, and signed a 6 year extention with him, they tried to compete that year, but failed. Now they can begin a legit win-now mode. They bagged him for a 4 year/ 18.88mm contract.
There was also a trade to talk about today. It ain't no minor showing, and it means big news for us here in Boston...
Rays:
Jurickson Profar, Jorge Alfaro, Rougned Odor, Luke Jackson, Justin Grimm
Rangers:
David Price, Cesar Ramos
Oh god, the Rays did the unthinkable in getting Profar. They lose Price, but what does it matter? Moore is playing pure beast for them. I'm afraid of them now, as they could be the favorites next year. But the Rangers also get a great SP to give them probably the best 1-2-3 rotation, while re-uniting the successful duo of Price and Shields. They will most likely be a World Series contender next year.
