Re: Drivin' The Bus, A Kansas City Royals Franchise (The Show 13)
Twinkies
Twins are no match for hit-happy Royals in Game 1
Kansas City, MO
The "Boys in Blue" sure made quite an impression in their home opener against the division rival, Minnesota Twins.
Kansas City amassed 10 runs on 21 hits and made light work of Minnesota, bouncing back from a sweep by the Phillies and improving their record to 4-3.
The Twins were held in check all day by Ervin Santana (7.0 IP, 1ER, 1K) and only managed one run that came in the 4th inning when Justin Morneau grounded into a double play, scoring Pedro Florimon.
Minnesota had one other chance to score in the 7th, with the score 4-1, Aaron Hicks flew out to David Lough in right field who then cocked back and threw out Chris Colabello at the plate to keep things in order.
With one out in the second inning, and Mike Moustakas standing on third. Lorenzo Cain connected a bloop single with a three and two count to give the Royals first strike in the runs category.
The scoring wouldn't stop then as Kansas City collected three more runs through the sixth, it was then Alex Gordon cleared the bases with a double down the first base line to put the game out of reach at 6-1.
The Royals top half of the lineup were strong at the plate all day as Lough, Hosmer, Butler and Gordon connected for hits multiple times and each drove in a run or more.
Ervin Santana made light work of the Twinkies lineup holding them to just one run through seven innings. "Magic" only struck out one batter, however he managed a low pitch count by pitching to contact and kept maybe the best defensive team in all of baseball, busy all day.
Kansas City looks forward to take the last two games of the series, stay tuned for the results.

Home Sweet Home
Royals Sweep Twins, Impress in Home Opener
After convincingly taking the first game of the series against the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City kept on churning ending with yet another sweep of an AL Central division rival.
The pitching staff picked themselves up after a less than impressive performance in Philadelphia while the Twins never had the lead once in any game of the series. It helps that the Royals have boasted one of the best defensive squads in the league so far, only committing two errors this season.
"It's nice having guys like that behind you, Moose and Esky both have good range and incredibly strong arms, not to mention Hosmer is a wiz with the glove over there at first, it really gives you confidence when you're up there on the mound." Said Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie.
Guthrie pitched a good game for his ball club in game two, throwing 8.2 innings while only giving up two runs and striking out four.
Manager Ned Yost loves the pitching staff's performance so far this year "In past season we have had trouble with guys going deeper than five innings, it's good to see we've been working our pitchers into the 6th, 7th, 8th innings, it's giving our team a lot more consistency, and confidence out there."
Eric Hosmer continues hitting well, gathering two more hits in game one and then smacking a homerun into the fountains in Kauffman in game two, both essentially sealing the game for Kansas City.

Wade Davis once again held the opposing team to three runs in his second start and improved to 1-1 on the season. Wade actually shut out the Twins through the first seven innings but then started to lose command and walked the bases loaded, causing Yost to bring in Kelvin Herrera who had a tough time getting out of the jam, letting three runs score.
Kansas City had another 10 plus hit day at the plate, as Lough continues to bat well at the top of the lineup with a .358 average, and 3 stolen bases. Justin Maxwell made a good first appearance of the season, homering in the third inning to extend his new teams lead.
Ryan Doumit was the only Twin who did any damage as he came in the 8th inning in a pinch hitting spotand drove in two on a double.
Greg Holland came in and shut the door, gaining his third save of the season and giving Kansas City a 6-3 record on the year and two sweeps over division rivals.
The Royals host Toronto in the next series, a tough opponent, but also a chance for this young team to show how good they really are.

Haha man it took me a while to come around on old Rex. After a while though, you've gotta accept him for who he is. I catch myself laughing numerous times during the broadcast.

Royals Take Two of Three Against Toronto
Kansas City, MO
Kansas City stressed the need for solid pitching over the offseason and it seems that is what they have. Not too overlook the fact the team is hitting almost .300 as a whole (1st in the AL) but there is no longer that one "blow-up" inning that Royals fans have always come to expect from their starting pitching staff.
In a tough series against the much improved Toronto Blue Jays, The Boys in Blue stole two of three, improving their record to 8-4 and a first place spot in the AL Central.
A game one matchup pitted the finesse master, Bruce Chen against Blue Jays starter Esmil Rogers in what turned out to be a nail biter. With the score tied up at two throughout the game, Kansas City rallied in the late innings, plating one run in the eighth on a Billy Butler single that scored Eric Hosmer from second. Hosmer reached first on a single of his own and moved into scoring position on a stolen base.
Toronto responded with a run of their own in the top of the ninth on an Adam Lind bloop single to lock things up .
With Gordo-Nation ticket night in full attendance, the Royals left fielder smacked a triple down the first base line, scoring Billy Butler ending the game with a walk off win.
Chen was solid in his outing, throwing six innings while only giving up one earned run and striking out four.

James Shields did about all he could in Game two of this series. "Big Game" tossed seven strong innings, striking out eight and only let two runs cross the plate.
However Toronto had a little late game surge themselves and were able to get the Royals bullpen in the 9th. With Tim Collins on in relief, Adam Lind struck again on a two run four bagger and then Jose Reyes drove in Brett Lawrie on an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 5-2 win and setting up a rubber match at Kauffman Stadium for Game three.

For the series deciding game, there is no other person the Royals wanted on the mound than Ervin Santana. "Magic" continued his dominant 2013, improving his record to 3-0, working eight innings while striking out 10 Blue Jays.
Toronto's only run came on a solo homerun from Adam Lind in the first inning, whom hit very well all series against the Royals (5-12, 2 HR, 5 RBI).
Kansas City responded the next inning and plated four runs. Alex Gordon doubled, his first of two for the day, and then the Royals pretty much singled Josh Johnson to death and before you knew it the scoreboard read 4-1 in favor of the home team.
Ervin kept Toronto in check for the rest of the game.
"I love pitching to Salvador Perez" The always calm and collected Santana told reporters after the game "I don't have to do too much up there on the mound besides throw the baseball, Salvy takes care of the rest, it's really helping this staff as a whole this season."
Melky Cabrera who went hitless in the first two games finally connected with the bat, going 3-4, however all meaningless singles.
Kansas City looks forward to a two game interleague matchup against the 10-2 Atlanta Braves in two days.

Thanks for the read! I am following your Mariners dynasty now too, grew up in the 90's loving that Seattle squad I'm interested to see what you can do with them.
