Texas-sized rebuild: The Houston Astros

(I had a larger post written but my computer decided to screw it up so here is a simpler version of it)

The Houston Astros have been a bad team recently because their core got old. I have devised a "10-year plan" to help them win. To do that I have goals to accomplish in individual seasons.

2013:
Trade away aging players
Get a good defensive shortstop
Get a power hitter
Build a new bullpen

Re: Texas-sized rebuild: The Houston Astros

Well the month of April went how we planned it to. A below .500 record with an awful bullpen. Our rotation has been doing really well but the bullpen brings up the team ERA. Fixing the bullpen is one of our top priorities this season.

Our offense is 28th in the league in batting average, but our star is Carlos Pena who is hitting .348 with 6 homers already in the season. We plan on trading him to get younger and this will really improve his stock. Jose Altuve, our young second baseman is hitting .272 with 4 homers in the early going. I am impressed with the homers because of his small stature.

Re: Texas-sized rebuild: The Houston Astros

After a solid month of April we absolutely tanked in May. Our team ERA dropped 30 points and our team batting average dropped 3 points. Our pitching wasn't as "good" as it was in April.

Carlos Pena is still having a monster year with 13 homers and a .331 average.

A 7-21 record in May is bad but we need to deal with it and build up our farm system from the ground up.

I am concerned with Jose Altuve and his .294 OBP. He really needs to step it up
