Haha that last update was awesome! I'm not sure whether I should root for him to get the record or not..

At his current pace, it might be better for you to start using pitchers in the DH role instead of Parmelle.

I wonder if moving him to the leadoff spot would help at least this way he would have 1 AB a game in which he couldn't hit into a double play. Just a thought.

Series 13 vs Red Sox

MLB-Best Red Sox Too Much For Twins

Music courtesy of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. "Title # 3." The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Experience Hendrix, 2000.

After taking 2 of 3 against AL Central leading Detroit, the Twins got a chance to play the best team in baseball. The Red Sox, coming into the series at 22-15, were more than Minnesota could handle and delivered the 3-game sweep. Highlights for the Red Sox including continued mashing from early AL MVP candidate David Ortiz and a 7 for 13 series for youngun Xander Bogaerts.

Game 1 pitted Jake Peavy against Phil Hughes, and although Hughes had his strikeout pitch working and K'd 5 consecutive Red Sox at one instance, Peavy came out on top. Peavy went 7 innings, scattering 7 hits, and induced 11 swing-and-misses on low changeups out of the zone.

Game 2 was the most competitive of the series and saw the Twins nearly come back from a 4-0 1st inning deficit. It was truly a nightmarish 1st inning for Sam Deduno. There was a throwing error by Trevor Plouffe, getting badly squeezed in Mike Napoli's AB, a double clutch on an unsuccessful double play turn attempt, a wild pitch (off Kurt Suzuki's glove), and a dropped 3rd strike to the backstop that allowed A.J. Pierzynski to reach despite fanning. In spite of the bad start, it came down to a pinch hit fly ball by Chris Colabello falling 10 feet short of a walkoff HR to deliver the win for Boston.

The series finale was a display of offense against a weak effort from Kyle Gibson. Gibson managed just 30% 1st pitch strikes and was hammered in deeper counts. The Red Sox scored 8 times on 14 hits and Xander Bogaerts had a 4-hit game.

Game 38: Red Sox 7, Twins 1

Game 39: Red Sox 5, Twins 4

Game 40: Red Sox 8, Twins 4

Series 14 vs Mariners

Twins Drop Another Series, Snap Skid At 6

Music courtesy of Mos Def (feat. Kweli). "History." The Ecstatic. Downtown Music, LLC, 2009.

The Twins had dropped 4 in-a-row before welcoming the Mariners to town. The M's were surely not well-behaved guests and lit up Minnesota pitching for 18 runs over the 1st 2 games of the series. Seattle completely blew open competitive games in Game 1 and Game 2 by scoring 10 runs in the 9th inning or later mostly against lefties Caleb Thielbar and Brian Duensing. The losing streak would run to 6 games for the Twins before getting a break.

Before Game 3, the Twins decided to call up DH/1B/RF Kendrys Morales from AAA Rochester. Morales had only been hitting .241 with 4 HR and 15 RBI playing for about a month in the minors, but the Twins desperately need some thunder in the lineup. Chris Colabello and his .170-ish average were optioned to AAA to make room.

Morales actually had no impact in Game 3 and went 0-4, but the Twins won the game anyway. Minnesota rode a fluke 4-run 3rd inning that saw LHP Roenis Elias take a massive Eduardo Nunez liner off the pitching hand and leave early. Mike Zunino also made a pair of throwing errors to catalyze the big inning. Later on, Glen Perkins came on to record the save, but not before the pesky Mariner offense scored a run to pull within 5-4--it was Perkins' 1st run allowed in more than a month, since a blown save against Kansas City on April 11th.

Game 41: Mariners 9, Twins 6

Game 42: Mariners 9, Twins 2

Game 43: Twins 5, Mariners 4

Glad to see you finally ended the skid! Looks like Red Sox Nation came out in full support to fill Target Field up by another 15,000 or so.

Let's Make A Deal

Let's Make A Deal
The Minnesota Twins have come to an agreement with the New York Yankees on a minor trade. The Twins have sent LHP Scott Diamond to New York for 1B prospect Greg Bird.

The Canadian, Diamond, was an undrafted free agent pickup by the Braves in 2008 before being selected in the 2010 Rule 5 Draft by Minnesota. Diamond, a control lefty pitcher, owns a 20-29 career record in 369 major league innings. Diamond recorded a 2.43 ERA in 42 AAA innings this season, before being recalled by the Twins, where he went 1-2 in 4 starts with a 3.12 ERA and a 19:12 K:BB ratio in 26 IP. The Yankees are expected to plug Diamond into their rotation, which is missing CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova, and Michael Pineda.

Greg Bird was drafted by the Yankees in the 5th round of the 2011 draft as a catcher. In fact, he was Kevin Gausman's receiver at Grandview High School in Colorado. Bird was ranked anywhere from 6th best prospect (MLB.com) in to the 8th best (Fangraphs) and Baseball Prospectus had him at #7.

Since being converted to 1B in 2012, Bird owns a career minor league triple slash of .286/.413/.483 in 704 ABs. Bird showed his superior plate discipline both last season with 107 BBs as well as this season where Bird had a .399 OBP at AA Trenton. At the time of the trade, Bird was batting .310/.399/.462 with 4 HR and 21 RBI in 145 ABs this season. Bird will report to AA New Britain and hit behind Byron Buxton, where his plate discipline may net Buxton several more steal opportunities.

The Twins haven't announced a replacement yet for Diamond's rotation spot, but many are expecting stud prospect Alex Meyer to get the call in San Francisco the next time through the Twins' rotation.

Yeah, good catch. I noticed there was a big attendance spike for the Red Sox series. Then failed to draw 10k against Seattle, lol. Nice touch by the devs to make attendance dynamic like that.

Series 15 @ Padres

Twins Steal Heartstopping Short Series From Friars

Music courtesy of Talking Heads "Road To Nowhere." Little Creatures. Sire Records, 1985.

In their 1st interleague series of 2014, the Twins rope-a-doped the Padres into a short series sweep. The Padres jumped out early in both games, scoring 7 first inning runs of their 9 total runs in the series. The Padres then proceeded to watch their leads vanish in both games.

Game 1 saw the Padres jump out 4-0 before the Twins stormed back to a 6-4 lead. The Padres were able to tie in the 7th, which set the stage for a crazy 9th inning.

Pinch hitter Sam Fuld led off the top of the 9th with a ringing single and advanced to 2nd on Joe Mauer's single. Fuld took 3rd on a wild pitch and then home on a second wild pitch by RP Kevin Quackenbush.

Glen Perkins came on to save the game only to see everything go haywire. A leadoff single, followed by a Perkins throwing error on a double play ball, and a bunt single loaded the bases for San Diego with no outs.

Perkins proceeded to strike out Yasmani Grandal out of the zone, looked on as Cameron Maybin missed on a squeeze and Carlos Quentin was dead meat at the plate, and finally induced Maybin to ground out to escape the jam and get the save.

Game 2 saw San Diego draw first blood on a Will Venable 3-run blast in the 1st inning (Minnesota has yielded 1st inning runs in 6 of the previous 7 games). But, Kendrys Morales and the Twins answered in the 6th with a 2-run blast to cut the deficit to 1. Pinch hitter Eduardo Escobar came up with the equalizer on a lined RBI single to left center. But the game would go to extra time, tied at 3.

The 10th inning saw San Diego's Tim Stauffer implode. He gave up a leadoff single to SS Danny Santana, who took 2nd on an errant throw back in by Cameron Maybin. Sam Fuld followed with a sacrifice attempt that turned into a base hit. Fuld took 2nd on a dirt pitch from Stauffer. With the infield drawn in and 0 outs, Brian Dozier hit a laser back up the middle to plate Santana and Fuld for the 5-3 lead, which would be the final score.

Game 44: Twins 7, Padres 6

Game 45: Twins 5, Padres 3
