Sydney Cricket Grounds will be the host of a brief two-game series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 22 and 23.
The two teams will play at the historic stadium that has been transformed into a baseball diamond with fences to give Australian fans an opportunity to experience a MLB event.
After the league's fantasy draft, the teams will have a new roster and will get to experience their first two games of the season earlier than the rest of the league. The season in the United States will not begin until March 31st, but the first two games can be seen on MLB Network.
The Dodgers will send Felix Hernandez to the mound in the first game of the series followed by young gun Michael Wacha in game two. A team that is built on their rotation, the Dodgers fear that runs may be hard to come by early on in the season.
"Our staff is very good and can carry this team," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "It's important for our offense to be alive throughout the season, too. We need to have everything clicking to be a contender."
The Diamondbacks will throw Anibal Sanchez to oppose Hernandez and Kris Medlen will face Wacha in the second game of the series. Pitching is also going to be key to Arizona's success this season.
"We expect a low-scoring series in our first two games," Mattingly said. "We're obviously starting earlier than most teams, so our bats aren't completely ready yet. It will be a fun experience for all."
There isn't a set lineup for the season as Mattingly expects to use the first few weeks to see what works best. However, we do have the Opening Day lineup in hand barring any changes:
2B Dee Gordon
CF JB Shuck
RF Yasiel Puig
3B Pablo Sandoval
LF George Springer
1B Casey Kotchman
C Wellington Castillo
SS Jose Iglesias
P Felix Hernandez
