Re: Pride. Power. Pinstripes: New York Yankees Dynasty (MLB 15 The Show)

I simmed 6 games. Eovaldi finally turned in a good start in an 8-1 win vs. the Rays. Though I lost my first series of the season against the Mets as they took 2 out of 3. End of April updates coming soon.

Going into the season, many pundits believed that the Yankees did not have what it takes to place above third place in the AL East Division. The health of Tanaka, the questions surrounding the lineup as well as the strength of other teams in the division contributed to the mindset that the Yankees would not be a good team this season. In fact, the experts of PECOTA projected the Yankees to win just about 80 ball games this season. As it stands, the Yankees are projected to win 110 games. Manager Joe Girardi has not placed too much emphasis on projections.

"You know, when you start projecting things, it puts expectations on players and staff that just aren't necessary. Every year we have expectations to compete. If we feel as if we're doing so, projections doesn't matter. Back in 2009, there weren't any projections of us using a 3-man rotation in October. We had to go with what was working at the time and what we felt was best to win. That's the approach you've gotta take during the season. Adapting. Being resourceful. Those are some of the intricacies of a season that you can't project.", Girardi said before the team's flight to Boston.

What has contributed to the Yankees great start has been phenomenal pitching. Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka leads the league in wins, WHIP, and is in the top 3 in strikeouts. The Yankees will look to continue their hot start to the season while providing some breathing room in the AL East as they travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox for their first series in the month of May.

In other news around the majors, three teams that were not expected to compete this season have found themselves in first place at the end of April The Twins and Diamondbacks have found themselves at their division in which they were expected to finish last. The Astros have surprised many by starting of a white-hot 17-5. The youth movemement for the Astros has begun early as they hold a 4.5 game lead heading into May.

In the NL the Mets are doing their best not to remain the second fiddle organization in New York as they are off to a great start as well. Their pitching has carried them through the first month of the season and they will look to get more contributions from the lineup heading forward in the season. As expected in the NL Central, the Cubs are once again in contention. The fight for the NL Central crown is expected to be a tight one, however, not too many analysts believed that the Cardinals would be six games under .500 to end the first month of the season. There are not a lot of games to give a way in the NL Central, so the Cardinals will need to make up as much ground as possible soon.

In the NL West, it seems as if a complete reversal in projected finishes is taking place. The Diamondbacks are leading the division while the Dodgers are last in the division. Many believed that the Diamondbacks did not have the personnel whatsoever to compete this season. In the midst of a partial-rebuild the D-backs have found a way to remain a float in the West. Meanwhile, the Padres and Dodgers, both of whom had lofty expectations heading into the season, find themselves at the bottom of the division. Fortunately, they're only a game and a half back with plenty of season to go.

Re: Pride. Power. Pinstripes: New York Yankees Dynasty (MLB 15 The Show)

Hey all, thanks for the views. Didn't expect to amass as much as nearly 1,000 views. I'm just wondering if I could get some input from everyone as far as the presentation goes, what I can do to improve the layout, etc. I haven't been playing for the past few days as I've been in the mountains hiking and such. With that being said, any insight would be awesome!

Re: Pride. Power. Pinstripes: New York Yankees Dynasty (MLB 15 The Show)

Yankees hold off Boston Rally in Game 1.

The Yankees were able to get out to an early lead against Red Sox starter Joe Kelly. After spotting Michael Pineda with 3 early runs, he was able to attack the Red Sox hitters and get ahead in the count. "We've really been able to set the tempo of the game by scoring early. I think it all starts with our guys at the top. They've got a great eye at the plate and are working their way on. Once they're on, they look to get into scoring position as soon as possible.", Girardi said of the table setters Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner.

The table setters did their job perfectly to start the game. Ellsbury lead off the game with a single and a steal of second base. Gardner promptly drove him home on a single up the middle. RF/DH Carlos Beltran brought home Brett Gardner and capped the first inning with a long 2-run home run. "I'm starting to see the ball a bit better as I get more at-bats. Early on in the season I was getting beat on most fastballs up in the zone and changeups in the dirt. The hitting coaches have helped me re-define my approach and get pitchers to throw strikes while fouling off the borderline pitches. The results have been good so far. Let's hope it continues.", Beltran told our on field reporters after the game.

Beltran, Hanigan and the Home Plate umpire admire the sight of Beltran's first inning home run.

The Yankees were able to tack on 3 more runs in the middle innings of the game as they had a 6-1 lead heading into the 8th inning. For Michael Pineda, his goal was to provide innings to preserve the bullpen. Unfortunately, the Red Sox were able to put a 4 spot on Pineda before he could get an out in the inning. "Admittedly, I was on cruise control out. I had a decent cushion and wanted to throw strikes. I should have known that you can't do that type of stuff against a great lineup like this.", Pineda said. The Red Sox benefited greatly from budding star Mookie Betts who drove in 4 runs in the contest. "It felt like we couldn't get him out. No matter what pitches were thrown, he hit them hard.", Girardi said briefly.

The always polarizing figure and Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was able to pickup his starter and bullpen in the top half of the ninth when he connected on a 2-rbi single up the middle. "To be honest, I wasn't trying to do too much at the plate. I was sitting on the breaking ball as I figured Mujica wanted to get me out in front of one. Fortunately, I was able to hold back on his slider and drive it up the box.", Rodriguez said after the game from his locker. The single extended the Yankees lead to 8-5 heading into the 9th versus their two headed monster of a closing committee in Betances and Miller. Dellin Betances was tasked with shutting the door and did so smoothly in a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning.

In the second game of the series the Yankees will send arguably their second best starter in Adam Warren to the mound to take on Justin Masterson.

Re: Pride. Power. Pinstripes: New York Yankees Dynasty (MLB 15 The Show)

Sabathia strands 9 baserunners, allows homer in gritty start.

NEW YORK -- The Yankees completed the sweep of their rival Boston Red Sox after a valiant effort from CC Sabathia. Sabathia allowed 1 walk while surrendering 9 hits to Boston. He only struck out two while going seven innings and providing depth to an already overworked Yankees bullpen. "I was fortunate enough to get some great defensive play behind me. I felt fine tonight so I wanted to pitch to contact and not try to overthrow the ball. I was hoping to give up a little less in the way of hits, but I'm pleased with the velocity I had and the movement on my pitches.", Sabathia told reporters during post-game interviews.

Sabathia's fastball topped out at 95 mph on the radar gun, a welcome sign for the Yankees coaching staff who had concerns about a decline in velocity.
The Yankees offense scored another early run off of Wade Miley in the first. They've been able to stick to their formula of getting one of their table-setters on for the 3-4-5 guys to drive them in. In the game, Teixeira continued to improve his average as he collected two hits. "A lot of bats are starting to heat up for us. We may not get hits all the time, but we're putting together better at bats and making much better contact. Sooner or later they will find some holes for us.", Girardi told reporters from his office.

The one run that the Yankees scored in the first was all they were able to put on the board until the sixth inning when they scored an additional two runs to give Sabathia a three-run cushion. Sabathia's lone run was surrendered on a 453 foot home run to David Ortiz in the eighth inning. Though Sabathia's final pitching line was enough for the win, he didn't miss too many bats as he gave up a lot of solid contact. As mentioned earlier, fortunately for CC and the Yankees, those hard hit balls found gloves and ended up as double plays.

With the sweep, the Yankees (18-7) increased their lead in the AL East to 4 games over the Red Sox (14-11). The Yankees will travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays.
