Former Blue Jays Rasmus Squeezes In Winning Run, Astros Take Series Opener

The Blue Jays, along with everyone else in the ballpark where caught off guard by Colby Rasmus, who drove in the winning run with a suicide squeeze bunt.

Houston, TX -- After winning the final two games of their series in Baltimore and reclaiming their throne atop the American League East standings, the Toronto Blue Jays were caught off guard by former Blue Jays centerfielder Colby Rasmus, who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning with a suicide squeeze bunt to give the Astros the win in the first game of a four game series.

Dalton Pompey hit his first homer of the season in the eighth inning to go along with Josh Donaldson's ninth longball of the year to help the Blue Jays to four runs against Astros starter Scott Feldman.

Mark Buehrle pitched into the eighth inning for the Jays, recording his best start of the season, striking out nine batters while surrendering five runs on six hits, although only three of those runs would be earned.

Blue Jays second baseman Ryan Goins left the game after diving and making a throw to first on a groundball up the middle and was seen holding the shoulder of his throwing arm as he left the field. The team has not yet announced the severity of the injury and whether or not it will require a stint on the disabled list.

Goins Hits the 60-day DL with Shoulder Injury, Jays Recall Tolleson

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without second baseman Ryan Goins for an extended period of time after it was found that he tore the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. The injury occured in the eighth inning of last night's 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros when Goins dove for a ground ball up the middle and attempted to throw out the runner.

Goins was having a career year, hitting .300 with a homer and several RBIs in limited playing time while shining on defense thanks to a great arm and range.

Goins' season is now unofficially over, as surgery will be required to repair the shoulder, which will require at least a six month recovery time.

The Blue Jays have placed Goins on the 60-day DL and recalled utility infielder Steve Tolleson from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Friday's matchup against the Astros.

I gave Goines a chance at second base. I brought him up around the beginning of June. I haven't been able to hit with him.

Sucks he got hurt as it looks like he was playing good for you.

Yeah he was playing well for me defensively and even surprising me at the plate. I try to drive the ball the opposite way with Goins and it seems to work.

Blue Jays Come Out Swinging, Pound Out 18 Hits Against Astros

Jose Reyes scored the first of many runs when he slide into home with in the top of the first inning on a Josh Donaldson RBI triple.

Houston, TX -- Josh Donaldson hit two RBI triples and the Toronto Blue Jays took the second game of a four game series against the Houston Astros by a score of 9-1.

Dioner Navarro homered in the first inning, part of a three run first that gave Jays starter Aaron Sanchez all the cushioning that he would need. Sanchez lasted seven shutout innings while striking out seven and Roberto Osuna came out of the bullpen to secure the win for the Jays, who improved their record to 21-16.

The lone run of the ballgame came in the ninth inning for the Astros, when Evan Gattis scored after catcher Hank Conger beat out the back end of a double play to keep the game going.

Justin Smoak also homered for the Blue Jays, adding a solo shot in the 6th inning as the Blue Jays also got RBIs from Jose Bautista and Devon Travis in the win.

Costly Victory: Jays Lose Reyes In Win Over Astros

Dioner Navarro homered for his third consecutive game to lead the Blue Jays to victory.

Houston, TX -- It seemed that all was said and done after the first inning when the Blue Jays were trailing 2-1 headed into the seventh inning against Pat Neshek, one of the Astros' more effective relievers.

However a double by Josh Donaldson, who advanced to third on a wild pitch gave the Blue Jays hope with one out and a runner on third. Edwin Encarnacion fought off pitch after pitch, leading to a 13 pitch RBI groundout that would tie the game.

One pitch later, Dioner Navarro was circling the bases as he blasted his four homer in three games off of Neshek to put the Jays ahead 3-2.

Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman encountered a rough first inning when he uncharacteristically surrendered two runs to the Astros on an RBI single by Evan Gattis, but settled in nicely, retiring the last 17 batters that he faced.

However, the win came at a cost for the Jays, who had star shortstop Jose Reyes leave the game in the second inning after diving for a Jason Castro single up the middle. Reyes was seen gripping his right shoulder in extreme pain. "We don't want to create too much speculation, but our trainer [George] believes that this could be a big problem" said manager John Gibbons after the victory.

Reyes was forced to leave the game in the second inning after taking the first pitch of the ballgame deep for his second homer of the season.

Re: It's Now or Never | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Place Reyes on 60-day DL

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without starting shortstop Jose Reyes for a lengthy period of time after it was announced that the former allstar had tore his shoulder in last nights game against the Houston Astros.

The injury occured with Reyes dove for a ground ball up the middle hit by Astros catcher Jason Castro.

Reyes, 32, was having a career year with the Blue Jays, leading the league in stolen bases and ranking 2nd in the league with a .347 batting average.

The injury causes several problems for the Blue Jays, as they just placed fellow second baseman/shortstop Ryan Goins on the 60-day DL with a torn rotator cuff. The Blue Jays now have no legitimate options at shortstop, and will have to explore several different options to see which one will be most beneficial for the team.

Steve Tolleson is expected to start at shortstop for the Blue Jays in the series finale against the Astros and a roster move is expected to occur shortly after.

Reyes joins Russell Martin and Ryan Goins as the third Blue Jays player to hit the disabled list with a shoulder injury this month.
