Chicago (AP)-

Well this game takes the cake if you're rooting for the Cubs, clearly there is a problem and whether Joe Maddon knows what it is or whether the management knows, or whether the players know, something has to be done. The Cubs scored 4 runs in the game, which sounds good enough. The problem is that the Cubs only had 2 hits! 2 Hits to score 4 Runs!

"I've never been involved in a game that had more runs scored in it by a team than they had hits. Absolutely mind blowing, I don't know what the issue is with out bats, it seems there is a hole in the middle of the bats or that we have smaller bats then everyone else sometimes."

The Cubs would strike in the first inning with walks and a passed ball followed by a ground out forcing in two runs. The Cubs had a 2-0 lead without a single base hit and only 1 ball put into play.

In the 4th inning the first Cubs hit of the game put them up 4-1! Typically if you can irrationally take a 3 run lead with just one hit in the game you are going to win. The Cubs bullpen and Justin Grimm had other ideas. Grimm gave up two runs on three hits, in yet another forgetable outing for Grimm which probably lost him the confidence of manager Joe Maddon in tight situations.

The Cubs once again struck out an enormous amount of times (10) in yet another ball game.

The Cubs hope to win their first series in weeks with game three tomorrow.

May 24th, 2015: Cubs @ Diamondbacks

Chicago (AP)-

"If I have hair left at the end of this month it might be a miracle." Was all one team spokesman would offer after the game.

The Cubs lost another one, falling under .500 for the first time all year. The Cubs had a chance at the win, had a chance at the tie, but the Cubs and new Reliever Travis Wood gave up two runs in the 8th inning that allowed the D-Backs to take the lead and allowed them to win the game.

The Cubs scored four runs off of the D-Backs starter, Ruby De La Rosa but the problem was, much like the last game, were unable to do anything useful against the bullpen.

At this point the Cubs will be scratching and clawing to remain on the hope of a .500 record. If the Cubs can get this Cold then the hope would be that they can likewise get just as hot.

We will find out next time as the Cubs go back home to take on the Washington Nationals who will come into the Series with a 24-20 record while the Cubs will go win with a 22-23 record.

May 25th, 2015: Nationals @ Cubs

Chicago (AP)-

The Cubs were able to get to Tanner Roark early on in the game and forced Roark out of the game after 4 innings pitched. He gave up 8 hits and two walks and four runs. On the other end of the mound was Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, Lester went just over 6 innings and struck out 10, though he did give up 7 hits and walked three.

It wasn't Lester's best performance, but it got the job done. He was relieved by Justin Grimm who took the first step towards a bigger role again as he got one of the two batters he was assigned.

The momentum change went in favor of the Cubs after Wilson Ramos got thrown out at the plate in the top of the 3rd inning after Michael Taylor doubled and Ryan Zimmerman had already scored. Ramos was by 10 yards and it would end the inning. The Cubs next batter to the plate would be Anthony Rizzo who would drive a ball the opposite way over the left field fence for a home run.

The Cubs look to continue their hot hitting with one of the National's aces Max Scherzer on the hill in the next game.

May 26th, Nationals @ Cubs

Chicago (AP)-

The game was well pitched with two strong pitchers dueling it out, by all accounts it was a toss up as to who pitched better in the 7 innings that both starters went. Jake Arrieta went 7 innings, gave up 5 hits with 1 walk and struck out 8. Max Scherzer went 7 innings, gave up four hits, two walks and struck out 5.

The Game was tied in the 7th inning when a diving Kris Bryant robbed the Nationals of a base hit down the line, got up and threw the runner out at first. The problem was that the young superstar came up clutching his chest having strained an oblique muscle and forced him out of the game. (He will only miss a couple of days and with an off day coming up that should help.)

In the 8th inning the the Nationals hit another ball that was in diving range of a player on the left side, this time it was Chris Coghlan as the ball just missed his glove and then hit the bullpen mound and the wall from there. Den Dekker was able to scamper around to third base for a 1 out triple. Den Dekker was driven in to take the lead by Ryan Zimmerman.

The Cubs weren't out of it just yet, Chris Coghlan came up to the plate with two on and one out in the bottom of the 9th inning with Drew Storen struggling. Coghlan rolled over on a ball and shot it up the middle, a great play by Ian Desmond, who made up for an earlier error, was able to start a fantastic double play to end the game and have the Cubs come up just a tad short.

The Cubs will square off with another Ace pitcher in Stephen Strasburg in the next game and hoping to maintain a .500 record.

May 27th, 2015: Nationals @ Cubs

Chicago (AP)-

The Cubs and the Nationals played three games and only in the first one did they have a large number of runs scored. In game 2 only one run was scored and in game 3 two runs were scored, unfortunately for Cubs fans, both of those runs were scored by the Nationals.

The Cubs weren't without opportunity as they touched Stephen Strasburg up for 6 hits and a walk. The problem is that Strasburg struck out 8 batters on his own. The Cubs stranded multiple runners in scoring position and also had a couple of runners thrown out on the base paths. In the 8th inning with two on and 1 out, Addison Russell drove a ball to the wall in Right Field but because of a couple ridiculous catches Bryce Harper had already made in the series, Jonathan Herrera was slow reading the ball and slow getting to and around 3rd base. Herrera would get thrown out at the plate, despite the throw carrying Ramos up the line, because of an extremely athletic dive and tag.

The Cubs would be shut out two games in a row and will be hoping that the coming off day will give them a nice breather before they face off against the AL Central Kansas City Royals.

A study in trades: The Show Version

Let's take a look at the trades that have taken place to this date in the and the winners and losers of those trades in this Franchise 5/28/15.

Here are the Trades, the parentheses shows the stats for the player this season

Yankees Get: AJ Pierzynski C, (.236, 4HR, 19RBI)
Braves Get: Greg Bird 1B, (Now in AAA, .140 2HR, 5RBI in MLB)
Current winner is easily Pierzynski to the Yankees who is actually contributing to a big league squad.

Rangers Get: Matt Shoemaker SP, (5-1, 2.16ERA, 68k)
Angels Get: Martin Perez SP, (In AAA, 3-2, 3.00ERA, 42k)
Current winner is the Rangers and Shoemaker who is dominating in the Majors.

Red Sox Get: Cesar Hernandez 2B, (.284 1HR, 4RBI)
Phillies Get: Jackie Bradley Jr. CF (In AAA, .265 2HR, 7RBI in AAA)
I wouldn't say either team won this trade at this point.

Cubs Get: Yoervis Medina RP, (In AAA, 4.2IP, 5k 0.00ERA)
Mariners Get: Wellington Castillo C, (.269 2HR, 7RBI)
Looks like Wellington is starting in Seattle and seems to be doing better there than he was doing in Chicago so the Mariners are the winners here.

Series Preview May 29-31 Royals @ Cubs

Chicago (AP)-

The defending AL champs the Kansas City Royals come into Chicago to face the struggling Cubs to end the month of May.

The Royals will have a slight disadvantage because their pitchers will actually have to bat, though that disadvantage may be minimal. The Cubs however are hoping to change the skid that they have been on in the past two weeks and change their record of 2-8 in their last 10 games.

Game 1
Jason Vargas (6-2, 2.17, 49k) @ Jason Hammel (1-2, 3.27, 47k)

Well, this doesn't look promising for Cubs fans, Vargas has been strong all year and with the Cubs struggles at the plate, Hammel is going to need to be dominate.

Game 2
Chris Young (3-2, 3.42, 44k) @ Kyle Hendricks (3-2, 4.32, 36k)

This is going to likely end up as a barn burner as both pitchers give up runs and don't miss many bats.

Game 3
Jeremy Guthrie (1-1, 4.76, 16k) @ Jon Lester (6-1, 2.10, 68k)

This is the game the Cubs should be able to take if nothing else, Lester is their best pitcher and has looked like it all year and Guthrie has struggled to miss bats and keep runs from scoring.

May 29th, 2015: Royals @ Cubs

The Cubs mob Castro following his bases loaded walk off single in the 9th.
Chicago (AP)-

The game had all the makings of a hallmark moment for the Cubs and their youth movement. Playing the defending AL Champion Kansas City Royals, the Cubs knew that if they could take this sereis, they would be right on the cusp of .500 and be right in the hunt for the NL wild card after two months of the season.

The Cubs and the Royals both had great pitching performances from their starters, Hammel for the Cubs went 8 innings spreading out 8 hits over the course of those innings and only allowing 1 run in the 6th inning. The Royals Jason Vargas was just a little bit better going 8 innings on his own spreading out 5 hits. The problem was that Royals manager Ned Yost kept Vargas out for the 9th inning when he was up over 100 pitches.

Struggling Cub Addison Russel drove a ball into left field to start the 9th inning. Dexter Fowler was unable to make contact and Russell would stay at the last pitch of the at bat in which he was able to swipe second base while Fowler was called out on strikes. Anthony Rizzo would follow with a base hit of his own and the Cubs chose to not send Russell after testing Alex Rios' arm early in the game and failing.

The next batter was star prospect Kris Bryant who was able to drive a ball up the middle scoring Russell. Miguel Montero would follow with his own hit and again the Cubs chose to not send Rizzo from third with one out. Jorge Soler was next up and hit a rocket right at Alex Rios in right field too shallow for a run to score.

Next up was the guy who has been the goat so many times in his career, Starlin Castro. Castro stepped to the plate and with an 0-1 count drove a ball, again, into right field for his first hit of the game after grounding into two double play balls.

Starlin Castro, not the hero that Chicago needs, but the hero Chicago deserves as he has been the star on this team for so many years and is finally coming into his own.
