Around the Diamond: Week 8
The Padres were handed their first loss. This brings us to within a game of them. The Cardinals, who we play next week, won their game and improve their record to 5-3.

Monster Pitching

Ashley: 2 IP, 1 K, 0 R, 3 H

Game Summary
The Monsters' bats really came alive against Cardinals exploding for 16 runs. This was the
second most runs they've scored this season, 18 against the Diamondbacks in Week 6. Pablo
Sanchez and Pete Wheeler both went 5 for 5 in the game. Pablo was able to do more damage with
four extra base hits including his third home run of the year. Pablo also drove in five runs. As a
team the Monsters went 25 for 39, a 0.641 average. The Monsters were also able to steal 11 bases.
The only run production the Cardinals had was a crazy bunt from Ronnie Dobbs that scored two. The
Monsters really didn't like playing in Tin Can Alley. Since it sits in a lot between buildings, it's impossible to
hit the ball "out of the park." Pablo was only able to get his home run because the ball bounced off of the
truck back into play. Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr, and Mikey Thomas all had ground rule doubles that
got stuck on top of the truck. Ken was upset after the game saying "Man I could have gotten another
home run. It was high and deep enough to go out in any other park," to Mikey. Derek told Ken
not to worry about it and that his power stroke should carry through the rest of the season.

Player of the Game:

Pablo Sanchez

Around the Diamond: Week 9
The Melonheads beat the Giants to improve to 7-2. It'll be an interesting match-up next week. The
Padres were the only team to win in the NL West other than us. It seems as if the division will come
down to us and the Padres.

Captfalc's Manager Report: Week 9
Nine weeks down and only five to go. Here are our results for the last three:

Monsters 4 vs Marlins 2
Monsters 9 at Braves 4
Monsters 16 at Cardinals 2

That makes us 7-2 for the season. Now here are the stats

Hitting
Pete: 0.771 AVG (27-35), 3 2B, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, 14 R, 19 SB, 3 BB, 3 K
Derek: 0.412 AVG (14-34), 2 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, 9 R, 6 SB, BB, 7 K
Ken: 0.419 AVG (13-31), 4 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 9 R, SB, 2 BB, 9 K
Pablo: 0.562 AVG (18-32), 5 2B, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 7 SB, BB, 5 K
Mikey: 0.419 AVG (13-31), 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Angela: 0.393 AVG (11-28), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, SB, BB, 3 K
Ashley: 0.428 AVG (12-28), 2 RBI, 7 R, 3 SB
Sidney: 0.423 AVG (11-26), RBI, R, 2 SB, 2 BB, 3 K
Ernie: 0.393 AVG (11-28), 2B, 5 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB, BB, 3 K

Pitching
Angela: 3-1, 28 IP, 12 R, 2.57 ERA, 30 H, 27 K
Ashley: 1-0, 8 IP, 1 R, 0.75 ERA, 10 H, 6 K
Sidney: 3-0, 21 IP, 6 R, 1.71 ERA, 14 H, 18 K
Ernie: 0-1, 1 IP, 3 R, 18.0 ERA, 5 H, 1 K

The batting average shot up a little bit to 0.476. We averaged almost 10 runs a game over our last
three games. Our whole lineup was in a hot streak during the last stretch. We struck out much less,
which is a huge improvement. Ken seems to be the only one still struggling to make contact at times.
His average is over 0.400 but he has struck out in 29% of his plate appearances. Pete is a stealing
machine. He's stolen 19 bases in the 30 times he's been on base. As a whole our team was able to swipe
a lot of bases, 26 over the last three games. our pitching continued to excel with a team ERA of 2.67. Ashley
pitched the best with 4 scoreless innings. Overall I'm pleased with the pitching especially since our bats are
giving us enough run support. The Padres lost a game and put us just a game behind. Our next three games
will be difficult and we'll have to keep up the winning.

Here's our next three matchups

vs Melonheads (7-2)
at Angels (2-7)
vs Twins (5-4)

Aluminum Power Bat Lifts Melonheads over Monsters

Crazy Melonheads (7-2) at Humongous Monsters (7-2)
Playground Commons

Melonheads0200024
Monsters2000002

Monster Hitting
Pete: 2-3, R, 2 SB(21) K,
Derek: 2-3, 2B, 3B, RBI(9), R
Ken: 1-3, 2 K
Pablo: 2-3, RBI(16)
Mikey: 1-3, K
Angela: 0-3, 3 K
Ashley: 0-3, K
Sidney: 0-3, K
Ernie: 0-2

Monster Pitching
Ashley: 6 IP, 6 K, 4 R, 6 H, L(1-1)

Game Summary
The Monsters got their only run production in the 1st with an RBI double from Derek Jeter and
an RBI single from Pablo Sanchez. They were unable to get anything else going the rest of the
game, striking out eight times and only managing eight hits. Ashley Webber was able to scatter
six hits through her six innings, while striking out six. However, the Melonheads were able to
get the aluminium power bat to strike for two towering two-run home runs. Ashley was pretty
upset about the second home run. She was heard talking to her sister after the game and said
"I don't even know how they got that power bat in the 6th. I think they cheated to win and it's
not fair that I had to take the loss."

Players of the Game:

Derek Jeter and Pablo Sanchez

Around the Diamond: Week 10
Luckily the Padres lose the same week we do to keep them only a single game ahead of us.
The Angels won and improved to 3-7. They should be an easier opponent and hopefully we
can stay on pace with the Padres. With only four weeks left the wild card race is heating up
and I'll include a standings snapshot.
