The King's Court

The King's Court

Introduction: As many of you know I have had some really successful chises with the exception that they never last long. I'm trying to change this right now. The horrible part is that my work is about to get a lot worse and I won't have much time to play but after going to a game last night in Washington it really churned up my hunger to do a MLB chise. I chose Seattle because Ken Griffey Jr. is my favorite player of all time and I grew up watching him and those talented Mariners teams play back in the day. They have never won a title so I figured I would try to give it a shot with them.

Game: MLB 16
Difficulty: All-Star
Sliders: Armor & Sword's MLB 16 Sliders

2016 Seattle Mariners Opening Day Preview

Pitching

Starting Pitching
Felix Hernandez [92 OVR] 6'3" 225 lbs R/R 29 Years Old
Hisashi Iwakuma [87 OVR] 6'3" 210 lbs R/R 34 Years Old
Taijuan Walker [81 OVR] 6'4" 235 lbs R/R 23 Years Old
Nate Karns [78 OVR] 6'3" 225 lbs R/R 28 Years Old
Wade Miley [77 OVR] 6'0" 220 lbs L/L 29 Years Old

Overall - B
It's hard to argue against a pitching staff that includes one of the best players in baseball. However this isn't the best staff in baseball. It is a good staff but there is still room to work. Iwakuma is starting to age and while Taijuan Walker is a good young prospect, Karns and Miley aren't anything special to write home about.

Relief Pitchers
Joaquin Benoit [87 OVR] 6'4" 250 lbs R/R 38 Years Old
Nick Vincent [81 OVR] 6'0" 185 lbs R/R 29 Years Old
Joel Peralta [76 OVR] 5'10" 210 lbs R/R 40 Years Old
Vidal Nuno [70 OVR] 5'11" 210 lbs L/L 28 Years Old
Mike Montgomery [66 OVR] 6'4" 215 lbs L/L 26 Years Old
Tony Zych [60 OVR] 6'3" 190 lbs R/R 25 Years Old

Overall - C
The bullpen could really hurt Seattle. They will need to do something to try to add some depth throughout the season. Both Ryan Cook and Charlie Furbush are out about a month before they start working back though some rehab starts. Once they are added the bullpen will be a little better but this team will need to rely heavily on the starters

Closing Pitcher
Steve Cishek [81 OVR] 6'6" 215 lbs R/R 29 Years Old

Overall - B-
Steve Chisek was moved out of the closer role in 2015 but look for him to bounce back this year. He saved 34 and 39 games in 2013 and 2014 with Miami so expect him to try to get back to that form this season.

Infield

Catchers
Chris Iannetta [75 OVR] 6'0" 230 lbs R/R 32 Years Old
Steve Clevenger [72 OVR] 5'10" 210 lbs L/R 30 Years Old

Overall - C
Once again nothing spectacular for Seattle. Both of these guys provide a veteran presence behind the plate and can hopefully help mentor one of the many young catchers in the system when they get their chance.

First Basemen
Adam Lind [80 OVR] 6'2" 195 lbs L/L 32 Years Old
Dae-ho Lee [64 OVR] 6'4" 265 lbs R/R 33 Years Old

Overall - C-
Another position with aging players. Adam Lind comes to Seattle from Milwaukee where he hit .277 with 20 home runs last year. Dae-ho Lee is a sucessful player in the Nippon League but many wonder if he can produce in his first year at 33 years old.

Second Basemen
Robinson Cano [90 OVR] 6'0" 210 lbs L/R 33 Years Old

Overall - A-
Robinson Cano will continue to be a good player for a couple of years. The former Yankee has continued to play well even though only one of his six all-star appearances has come since his move to Seattle in 2014. The Mariners need to start grooming a replacement for Cano in a couple of years.

Third Basemen
Kyle Seager [84 OVR] 6'0" 210 lbs L/R 28 Years Old

Overall - B
Seager is coming off a 26 home run season and is looking to continue some momentum that he has built by getting slightly better each year. There isn't anyone really niping at his heels so he has time to continue playing before someone challenges for his spot.

Shortstops
Ketel Marte [78 OVR] 6'1" 165 lbs S/R 22 Years Old
Luis Sardinas [69 OVR] 6'1" 180 lbs S/R 22 Years Old

Overall - C
Both of these guys have just enough experience to be out of the running for rookie of the year. They are still both very young and have time to develop. Look for them to try to break out this year in their first full year in the major league.

Outfield

Outfielders
Nelson Cruz [91 OVR] 6'2" 230 lbs 35 Years Old
Leonys Martin [80 OVR] 6'2" 200 lbs L/R 28 Years Old
Nori Aoki [79 OVR] 5'9" 180 lbs L/R 34 Years Old
Franklin Gutierrez [79 OVR] 6'2" 200 lbs R/R 33 Years Old
Seth Smith [69 OVR] 6'3" 210 lbs L/L 33 Years Old

Overall - B-
Nelson Cruz leads another group of aging players. The real question is how long can Cruz play at an elevated level? He raked 84 home runs in the past two years. Surely a 35 year old can't keep up that pace. If he can it will surely help the Mariners in a tough division with the Angels and the Astros.
