Win It For Harry! - Chicago Cubs Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)
I did my first 30-TEAM CONTROL FRANCHISE with accurate DL and transactions in TheShow14 and was blown away with how immersive and enjoyable it was. I had hoped to do a dynasty in TheShow15 but work and life didn’t allow for it. Having more free time this go round, I decided to try it again. Thanks to the developers, the OS Roster Creators, the OS Slider Generators and the OS Sounds of the Show Gatherers, TheShow16 recreates my favorite sport in my living room in almost unreal fashion. I’m definitely not the first to try and satisfy the lack of a real-world championship for the Cubbies with one in the digital realm. I definitely don’t have any tricks up my sleeve to make this awesome. I just like playing the games and creating the box scores and writing and stuff in between (sometimes, necessary to cool down lol). I like the idea of being able to look back on my completed history, and my hope is to keep this going through the real life offseason…the darkest months of every year. Re: Win It For Harry! - Chicago Cubs Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)
SPRING TRAINING REVIEW Finishing Spring Training with a winning record of 15-12, the Cubs performed as expected for the most part. Manager Joe Maddon’s plan to ease his veterans into the season allowed ample opportunities for younger players early on in March, and while the talent is apparent at every level in the organization, Chicago’s 4-8 start to the spring showed there is much work left to do for the kids to reach the big leagues. While it’s not exactly ‘World Series or Bust’ in the Windy City this season, anything less than an appearance in the Fall Classic will be considered a disappointment after the magic of last year. Is this the team to finally shed the ‘Lovable Losers’ label? It may be…it could be… SPRING STAND-OUTS 3B/OF Kris Bryant: .340/.404/.787 with 6 HR and 11 RBI in 47 AB The reigning NL ROY appears ready to challenge for an MVP in his sophomore campaign, if he can improve on his strikeouts (14 in 47 spring AB) 2B Ben Zobrist: .341/.396/.500 with 1 HR and 9 RBI in 44 AB Zobrist’s contact ability, keen eye and clutch hitting was on display all spring, as he finished with more walks than strikeouts and hit close to .400 with runners in scoring position RHP Pierce Johnson: 1.29 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 18/3 K/BB in 14 IP If Johnson can stay healthy – a BIG if – he could be a factor for the team down the road. While he benefitted from facing mostly minor league competition towards the end of early spring training games, he still allowed a lot of hard contact and surely still requires time down on the farm. RHP Hector Rondon: 1.13 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, 13/1 K/BB in 9 IP Rondon was in post-season form from the moment he arrived in Arizona this spring. He looks to be in for a big season if the Cubs’ offense allows him enough save opportunities. CUBBIES’ CONCERNS LF/C Kyle Schwarber: .193/.254/.333 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in 57 AB Last year’s playoff hero struggled mightily in March, with only 11 hits in 57 AB’s, while also committing four errors in left field. C Willson Contreras: .239/.321/.261 with 0 HR and 7 RBI in 46 AB The Cubs’ catcher of the future displayed an alarming lack of pop, with only one extra-base hit on the spring. He will begin the year at AAA Iowa, hoping to get the bat back on track to earn his promotion to the bigs. RHP Adam Warren: 0-1, 8.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 5/3 K/BB in 9 IP The off-season acquisition for fan-favorite Starlin Castro didn’t do much to endear himself to his new home. His inability to limit hard contact will need to be fixed if he’s to have a role in Chicago this year. RHP John Lackey: 2-0, 1.38 ERA, 0.38 WHIP, 2/0 K/BB in 13 IP The most extreme example of Maddon’s plan to rest veterans, Lackey only pitched against competition in three games this spring. Only time will tell if he was just pitching to contact to get ready for the regular season, or if his declining K-rate is a harbinger of bad news. FARM REPORT IF/OF Arismendy Alcantara: .296/.397/.500 with 3 HR and 6 SB in 54 AB Alcantara did a little bit of everything this spring, but he’s shown glimpses like this in the past only to follow it up by doing a whole lot of nothing. He is running out of chances and will need to continue performing like this in AAA to regain the trust of Cubs’ management. 1B Dan Vogelbach: .277/.304/.415 with 2 HR and 13 RBI in 65 AB Vogelbach led the Cubs in games, RBI and AB’s for the spring. Blocked by Rizzo in Chicago, he showed his plus power early in March but his inefficiencies against left-handed pitching became glaring by the end of the spring. He will begin the season at AAA Iowa. 3B Jeimer Candelario: .167/.250/.233 with 1 HR and 3 RBI in 60 AB Candelario was clearly overmatched facing major league caliber pitching. He performed adequately with the glove at third, but he will head to AA Tennessee to begin the year as the bat does not appear close to ready. IF Javier Baez: .260/.269/.600 with 3 HR, 2 SB and 11 RBI in 50 AB Baez displayed his immense power potential, but striking out 16 times while walking NONE will not work at the MLB level. He will open the season on the Major League disabled list with a thumb injury. RHP Carl Edwards, Jr.: 2-0, 6.57 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 15/9 K/BB in 12.1 IP The Jekyll and Hyde of March, Edwards allowed 5 HR in only just over 12 innings. When he was on, he was unhittable. But that wasn’t very often. He will report to AAA Iowa to begin the year. HE’LL BE BACK RHP Spencer Patton: 1.64 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 9/1 K/BB in 11 IP Patton kept opposing hitters off balance and located his pitches well all spring. The Cubs’ crowded bullpen will send him to Iowa instead of Chicago to start the year, but if he continues pitching this way he will find himself back in the big leagues sooner than later. |

Re: Win It For Harry! - Chicago Cubs Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)
Heyward’s Homer, Rizzo’s Slam Backs Arrieta The Chicago Cubs started the 2016 season off in dominant style, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 on Opening Night in Anaheim. Jason Heyward homered in his first at-bat, Anthony Rizzo hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth, and Jake Arrieta fired seven shutout innings to win his first game of the year. After Dexter Fowler walked to lead off the game, Heyward’s first official swing in a Cubs uniform deposited a Garrett Richards fastball deep into the right field stands. It would prove to be all Chicago would need. Arrieta permitted only three baserunners and struck out seven in his 13th consecutive start allowing less than two earned runs, dating back to last season. The Angels didn’t offer much of a fight, and the only drama Arrieta encountered would be if he came back out to pitch after Chicago scored five runs in the top of the eighth. Richards gave up two runs on three hits, with two walks and five strikeouts in his six-inning losing effort. Angel relievers Jose Alvarez and Cory Rasmus combined to walk two batters and hit another to force in a run before Rizzo’s slam capped the scoring for the Cubs. Albert Pujols singled with two outs in the ninth to plate Mike Trout with the Angels' only run. Game Replay

Bryant Leads Doubles Brigade to 4-2 Victory Kris Bryant hit two of Chicago’s five doubles, Jon Lester pitched into the sixth inning and the Cubs defeated the Angels 4-2, sweeping the opening two-game series in Anaheim. Bryant doubled and scored in the Cubs’ three-run sixth inning, ending Angels starter Andrew Heaney’s night. Heaney had held the Cubs in check up to that point, allowing only a single run in the fourth, but he finished with the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out three in his five innings. Chicago’s Lester fared a little better despite battling with his command all game long. He earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits, but has to be disappointed with his three walks and inability to finish the sixth inning. He also struck out three. Justin Grimm relieved Lester with runners on first and second and ended the threat with a strikeout and an easy fly to center. After Pedro Strop retired the Angels in order in the eighth, Hector Rondon struck out the side in the ninth, including Mike Trout with the tying runners on base to end it, for his first save of the season.

Re: Win It For Harry! - Chicago Cubs Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)
Russell's 4-4 Day Paces Cubs In Win Addison Russell had four hits, John Lackey struck out nine and Cubs relievers hurled three perfect innings as Chicago beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 in the opener of their four-game series Thursday night. With the game tied at two in the seventh inning, Russell’s single to center scored Matt Szczur with the go-ahead run. Two batters later, Russell came around to score the eventual winning run on Dexter Fowler’s triple. Lackey struggled out of the gate, as the Cubs trailed 1-0 with a runner on third only four batters in. But after escaping the inning without further damage, he found his footing and finished with a quality start -- six innings, three runs -- for his first win of the season. After only striking out two batters in all of spring training, Lackey punched out nine Diamondbacks. Ben Zobrist hit his first home-run as a Cub, a solo shot in the fourth that barely cleared the right-center field fence and nearly ended up in the swimming pool. Hector Rondon struck out one in a scoreless ninth for his second save.

Peralta's HR Lifts D-Backs To Comeback Win David Peralta hit a two-run go-ahead homerun in the sixth, Matt Buschmann struck out five of the seven hitters he retired and the Arizona Diamondbacks came from behind to beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to even up their four-game series. Buschmann, called up earlier Friday and making his major league debut, relieved Arizona starter Robbie Ray with two outs in the fifth and got Addison Russell to fly out to deep right with the bases loaded, preserving a one run deficit. An inning and a half later Peralta hit a moon-shot to center field off Cubs right-hander Jason Hammel to give the Diamondbacks the lead, and Buschmann his first major league victory. Hammel pitched well enough to win, allowing only three runs on five hits and a walk, striking out eight in six innings. But Chicago's offense couldn't deliver, stranding 12 runners on base en route to the Cubs' first loss of the year.

Cubs Knock Greinke Out Early, Hold On Late To Beat D-Backs 5-4 Zack Greinke couldn't make it through the fourth inning, Kris Bryant drove in two runs, and the Chicago Cubs held on Saturday downing the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in the third game of their weekend series. The Cubs scored two runs off Greinke in the first before adding three more in the third, as the Arizona starter struggled to locate with any consistency. After Dexter Fowler led off the fourth with a double, Greinke headed for the showers having given up five runs on six hits and three walks. He only retired nine Chicago hitters. Kyle Hendricks kept the Diamondbacks in check until tiring in the sixth. He completed the frame, earning a quality start in the process, but the home run allowed to David Peralta was enough to enlist the bullpen for the final nine outs. He finished with a line of three runs allowed via seven hits and a walk, striking out four in his six innings, for his first win of the season. Hector Rondon struck out one in a perfect ninth for his third save in as many chances. The Diamondbacks fell to 2-4 while the Cubs have won four out of five to begin the year. Re: Win It For Harry! - Chicago Cubs Dynasty (MLB The Show 16)
Arrieta Dominant As Cubs Beat Diamondbacks 5-2 Anthony Rizzo and Miguel Montero each hit two-run homers off Shelby Miller, Jake Arrieta didn't allow a run over seven innings and the Chicago Cubs beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 Sunday afternoon. Arrieta scattered six hits with seven strikeouts, walking none en route to his second win of the season. Pitching with a lead from the moment he stepped on the mound, he never allowed the Diamondbacks to get anything going. He has now began the season with 14 scoreless innings. Miller didn't pitch all that poorly, but his two big mistakes put the game out of reach against Arrieta. Miller exited after only five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks, while only striking out one Cub batter. Matt Szczur hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the ninth when his fly ball to right got past a diving Brandon Drury. The run extended Chicago's lead to 5-0, and almost became a much needed run after Neil Ramirez allowed the Diamondbacks to score twice in their half of the ninth. The Cubs finished the opening week of the season 5-1, and now head back to Chicago for their home opener Monday night against the Cincinnati Reds.
