Re: The King's Court

We are all caught up after the next post. I decided to change the layout a little and add some story elements in. It gives some life to the franchise. Instead of just having stats and pictures. I hope you guys enjoy.

Re: The King's Court

Billy Butler Goes Off Against Seattle
The Athletics pounded out 15 hits on their way to tie up the series 1-1

Seattle, WA -- Despite an early start by the Seattle Mariners, Billy Butler and the rest of the Athletics picked up 15 hits over the course of the game on their way to victory. That hit parade carried the Athletics to a slim 4-3 victory against the Mariners with Sonny Gray picking up his first victory of the year. Wade Miley pitched a decent game but it wasn't enough. He gave up 10 hits over 6 innings of work and 4 runs crossed the plate during that time.

Leonys Martin raised his batting average after going 2-4 during the game and scoring a run. He also picked up two more stolen bases to bring his total to four for the season. The stolen bases are a good sign for Martin after he was caught stealing in his first two attempts of the season. Also making an impact was Robinson Cano. Cano seemed to pick up the pace after a slow start to the season. Cano was making great plays in the field at second base and also went 1-2 hitting with two base on balls. Other notables were Nori Aoki getting his first home run of the year in the seventh inning and Steve Clevenger getting a double in his first start behind the plate.

Wade Miley started off well for the Mariners going three innings without giving up a run. However after that things slowly started to unravel and he ended up with four earned runs on ten hits. Joel Peralta and Joaquin Beniot both entered the game in relief and despite giving up 5 combined hits managed to not give up any earned runs.

The Mariners close out another series on Sunday against the Athletics. First pitch is at 1:10 and will feature Rich Hill (0-0, 8.0 IP, 14 SP, 0.00 ERA) and Felix Hernandez (0-1, 5.0 IP, 6 SO, 9.00 ERA) in the rubber match.

Re: The King's Court

Hernandez Wins First Game With Shutout
The Mariners pound 13 hits and 10 cross the plate to back up King Felix

Seattle, WA -- The Mariners continued to float around the .500 mark after a great performance by Felix Hernandez. Felix pitched a complete game shutout and got some great back up by his offense to be able to cruise easily to his first win on the season. Pitcher Rich Hill threw 40 pitches in the first inning and gave up six runs before he was pulled in the second inning after giving up another two runs.

The Mariners had a great game offense wise and we saw some guys break out who have started off slow this season. Chris Iannetta went 2-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs. Those were his first two home runs of the season. Kyle Seager also added his second home run of the season. Seager finished the day 2-3 from behind the plate with a double in addition to his home run. The only Mariner to really struggle was Dae-Ho Lee who went 0-4 on the day and struck out twice. Leonis Martin added another stolen base to bring his season total to five.

There isn't much else to be said about King Felix's performance that hasn't already been said. He threw 9.0 innings of work, gave up five hits, three walks, and struck out five. He had several times where he was faced with runners in scoring position and was able to work out of the jam. The most notable was after he gave up a one out triple to Stephen Vogt. Felix then had Canha pop out to the catcher and struck out Josh Reddick on a curveball low and away. The Mariners need Felix to keep up this form if the want to have a successful season.

Following the series victory at home against Oakland, the Mariners stay at home to face the Texas Rangers. It is the fourth meeting of the teams on the year with Texas leading the season series 2-1 after winning the first series to start the season in Arlington. Derek Holland (1-0, 9.0 IP, 1 SO, 0.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Rangers and opposite of him will be Hisashi Iwakuma (0-0, 5.1 IP, 3 SO, 5.06 ERA) for the Mariners.
