 Tennessee Vols Sign Impressive 2008 Class Knoxville, TN -- Today Tennessee's head baseball coach, Danny Carmichael, held a press conference to announce the program's 2008 Signing Class. The 2008 Signing Class includes 5 signees and 3 walk-ons. The newcomers include 2 Starting Pitchers, 3 Relief Pitchers, 1 Catcher, 1 2nd Baseman, and 1 Center Fielder. Below we have the quotes from Carmichael's press conference, where he spoke in depth on each of the incoming Freshmen. RP, Brad Induye: 81 Overall I'll start off by mentioning Brad Induye. In this class, we really stressed getting guys with great size. Last year, RP C.J. Finch was the only player on our roster that was over 6'3". In this class alone, we signed 3 guys 6'5" and taller. Induye, will be the tallest player on our team standing at 6'6". Induye is a hard throwing right handed reliever. His Fastball hits the mid 90's consistently and he's got a plus Curveball that is downright nasty. He also throws a 2 Seam Fastball and a Circle Changeup. Both of those pitches have good movement, but we'll just need to work on control with all 4 of his pitches, like all incoming Freshmen pitchers. Induye will play a big role in our bullpen this season and we envision him being a closer at some point during his career. SP, Mark Durakis: 79 Overall Mark Durakis is another tall kid standing at 6'5". Durakis, like Induye, is another hard throwing right handed pitcher. However, we believe Durakis can be a weekend starter for us in the future. He consistently hits the mid 90's with his Fastball and his 2 Seamer consistently hits the low 90's. Durakis has a solid Changeup and Curveball that have late movement. We believe Durakis can be one of the top pitchers in the country in a couple years. And once you see the velocity on his breaking balls, you'll see why. He's gonna be a tough pitcher to figure out. SP, Todd Saunders: 77 Overall Todd Saunders is a 6'2", 194 lbs. left handed pitcher out of Mississippi. Todd is another hard throwing pitcher as he hits around 93 with his Fastball consistently. He can consistently hit 91 with his 2 Seam Fastball. He's got a Slider and a Curveball that will be nearly un-hitable in a few years. We're leaning towards giving him a redshirt this year so he can work on his movement and control. He'd be a Redshirt Freshman in 2009 and get some spot starts and then be one of our 3 starters in 2020 as a Redshirt Sophomore. We've got a feeling Saunders is going to do big things here at Rocky Top. CF, Jeremy McKinnon: 74 Overall Jeremy McKinnon is a 5'10", 206 lbs. Center Fielder/Outfielder from right here in Tennessee. He throws left handed and hits from the left side of hte plate. Jeremy is a big addition to our class, especially since Tony Amos (96 overall, Center Fielder) is a senior this year. He doesn't have a ton of power, but we envision he'll be a lead-off hitter for us down the road due to his ability to make solid contact and because of his speed. We think he can develop into a player that can hit .350 with 20+ steals for us. It's also huge for us that Jeremy can play all 3 outfield positions. 2B, Joe Sargent: 72 Overall Joe Sargent is a 6'2", 204 lbs. 2nd Baseman from New York. This was a huge addition for us because Joe can play every infield position, except catcher... And we like that flexibility in knowing that we can put him pretty much anywhere. He's not real fast, but he's a guy that we think can hit 10+ home runs for us a year after he gets a little stronger and gets used to D1 college pitching. We're ecstatic to have Joe as apart of our class because he's extremely teachable and we know he'll have great success here at Tennessee. C/1B, Chris Morin: 71 Overall: Walk-On We really lucked out with Chris Morin. He turned down other D1 scholarships to Walk-On here at Tennessee. Morin is a 6'5", 248 lbs. Catcher/First Baseman. Morin has incredible power and can move for such a big kid. We think he can develop into a solid Catcher or First Baseman for us. Regardless of the position, he'll get playing time later in his career here. RP, Danny Haselman: 67 Overall: Walk-On Danny Haselman is a 6'1", 163 lbs. left handed Reliever. Haselman has the potential to be a quality reliever for us down the road. But for now, we're going to redshirt him so he can gain a little more control and movement on his Changeup, Slider, and Curveball. He's the only pitcher in this class that has 3 breaking pitches and we're excited to see how he develops those pitches during his career here at Tennessee. RP, Tucker Kuhn: 67 Overall: Walk-On Tucker Kuhn is a 5'11", 181 lbs. right handed reliever. Kuhn can consistently hit 90 with his 4 Seam Fastball and around 87 with his 2 Seam Fastball. His Splitter can be absolutely nasty and his Changeup can have some good, late movement to it. Stop me if you've heard this before, but we're going to redshirt him this year so he can work on his control and movement. We hope these three walk-ons can develop and have the success as some of our former walk-ons had last year. Here are a some players on our team that made a huge impact that are in fact, walk-ons: SP Sean Godwin (2nd Team All-America), 2B Will Meacham (1st Team All-SEC and All-CWS Team), RF Mark Armstrong (3rd Team All-SEC), and DH Jamie DeLuca (3rd Team All-SEC). All in all, this was a great class and one that should help us compete for future championships.
