Blue Jays Pick Up First Win of 2016 In Wild Finish
Ezequiel Carrera scored on a throwing error by Hank Conger in the ninth to give the Blue Jays the win.
What a wild finish it was. Pinch runner Ezequiel Carrera scampered home on a throwing error by Rays catcher Hank Conger to give the Blue Jays a late lead that they would hold on to.
In a series of queer events, pinch running for Justin Smoak, Ezequiel Carrera entered the game at first base after a two-out walk. Carrera would then steal second on a 1-0 fastball, putting him in scoring position with two outs and Russell Martin at the plate. That's when all chaos broke loose for the Rays.
Reliever Tyler Sturdevant delivered a 1-2 curveball in the dirt that got away from catcher Hank Conger. Carrera, who got a late break on the wild pitch, took off for third. In a rushed attempt to nab Carrera at third, Conger threw the ball past a sliding Evan Longoria and Ezequiel Carrera, the latter of whom scampered home to give the Blue Jays the lead.
Jose Bautista launched his first homer of the season in the first inning off of Rays starter Jake Ordorizzi.
Roberto Osuna notched his first save with shutout ninth out of the pen to record his first save of the 2016 campaign as the Blue Jays picked up their first win of the new season and moved to 1-1. Aaron Sanchez will get the ball for the Blue Jays tomorrow in the rubber match of the three game series before the Blue Jays head back home for their home opener against the Boston Red Sox.
Blue Jays Take Series From Rays With Three Straight Dubs
The Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up their four game set at the Trop against the Rays with another two wins, picking up three out of four against AL East rival Tampa Bay.

Josh Donaldson drove in three runs for the Blue Birds as young starter Aaron Sanchez battled through 5 long innings on the bump, working out of several jams to give the Blue Jays a fighting chance. With Rays starter Drew Smyly getting tired, the Blue Jays jumped on the opportunity, adding two insurance runs to chase the former Tigers lefty from the ballgame.

The final game of the four game set proved to be opposite of the third game. With the Blue Jays leading 3-2 in the ninth inning and young closer Roberto Osuna on the bump, Steve Pearce made things interesting with his second bomb of the day, tying the ballgame at three a piece.
The tie wouldn't last long though, as a Joey Bats single in the top of the tenth inning scored the winning run, turning a Roberto Osuna blown save into his first win of the season.
The Rays made things interesting in the bottom half of the tenth when Kevin Kiermaier laced a one-out single into center field, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. That would be all Jays reliever Jesse Chavez would give them, as he settled into a groove and struckout the final two batters to secure the dub for the Jays.
The Blue Jays get Thursday off before kicking off their home opener against the 1-2 Boston Red Sox. Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey takes the bump for his first start of the season and will be countered by Red Sox off-season acquisition Roenis Elias, who is also making his season debut.
Blue Jays Win Home Opener Behind Dickey's One-Hit Gem
Under a closed roof at the Rogers Center, R.A. Dickey and the Toronto Blue Jays took down the Boston Red Sox in the Jays' home opener by a score of 8-0.
R.A. Dickey pitched a one-hit gem, surrendering only an infield single to Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia after his ground ball caromed off of Dickey's left foot. That would be one of only two baserunners that the Red Sox would manage to get on base all night, as Dickey's knuckleball was dancing all over the place under the closed roof.
A dejected R.A. Dickey takes a moment after Dustin Pedroia's grounder deflected off his left foot costing him his no-hit bid.
In a night where pitching took over the show, the Blue Jays bats were not to be overlooked, as Devon Travis doubled twice in the win. The Blue Jays once again got offensive support from the long ball, as both Kevin Pillar and Russel Martin launched multi-run homers in the win. The aforementioned Pillar and Martin each picked up three RBIs in the win.
The Blue Jays look to secure a series win tomorrow afternoon against the visiting Red Sox. Marcus Stroman (0-1, 4.50 ERA) takes the hill for the Blue Jays against Red Sox youngster Eduardo Rodriguez, who is making his first start of the season.
