Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 29 - New York Mets (13-13) at San Diego Padres (18-10)

The New York Mets jumped on Padres starter Bartolo Colon early and often scoring 2 runs in the first inning and then 5 more in the 3rd inning to hand him his third loss of the season and give him his shortest outing of the young season. His final line was 3.0 IP 10 H 7 R 7 ER 0 BB 2K's. "I just didn't have it today" remarked Colon, "my pitches were up in the zone and I can be effective when that happens."

Meanwhile Mets lefthander Danny Duffy takes full advantage of the early 7 nothing lead he was spotted. Duffy baffled hitters all day and he goes the distance in the 8-1 win, with his only big mistake on the day was a 3-1 fastball that Devon Travis hit over the CF wall to get the Padres their only run on the day. Duffy's final line was 9.0 IP 7 H 1 R 1 ER 3 BB 9 K's, improving his record to 4-2 on the season.

"The guys made it easy for me out there today. When you have a bunch of runs to play with you can pitch free and easy." -- Danny Duffy, New York Mets

Game 2 of the 4 game series will have Daniel Norris (1-4, 3.66) on the mound for the Padres to take on the Mets Trevor Bauer (3-1, 1.56).

Notes: Adam Wainwright remains day to day with forearm tightness. The Padres are expecting to skip his next start. Matt Wieters continued his modest 7-game hitting streak with a single in the 9th inning. Ichiro is showing signs of coming out of his early season funk finishing the day 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Ichiro needs 51 more hits to reach the historic 3000 mark.

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 31 - New York Mets (14-13) at San Diego Padres (18-11)

The Padres jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings of play and it looked like Daniel Norris was in line to grab his 2nd win of the season. The pesky Mets would cut the lead to 1 after a solo HR off the bat of Scooter Gennett in the 6th. Daniel Norris could not get out of the following inning (7th) after giving up the tying run with 1-out on a Albert Pujols solo shot to left. Then with 2-outs and 2 men-on on pinch hitter Hyun-soo Kim smashed a 3-run shot to right giving the Mets a 6-3 lead. Norris drops to 1-5 on the season, his final line was 6.2 IP 10 H 6 R 6 ER 0 BB 6 K's.

The Mets Trevor Bauer kept New York in the game long enough to improve to 4-1, his final line was 6.0 IP 8 H 3 R 3 ER 0 BB 8 K's. The Mets bully shut the door the rest of the way with Casey Janssen and Tyler Clippard picking up holds, while Craig Kimbrel grabbed a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 9th save of the year.

"We are really starting to play our game now. I'm hoping we can stay hot on this long west coast road trip." -- Terry Collins, New York Mets

The New York Mets have now won 5 games in a row and have taken over first place in the NL East. The Padres are looking to end the winning streak on Saturday afternoon in Game 3 of the 4 game set having Adam Wainwright (3-2, 1.99) make his first start since having his last outing shortened with forearm tightness to take on the Mets Lance Lynn (2-2, 3.38).

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 31 - New York Mets (15-13) at San Diego Padres (18-12)

The game would start and end with a bang as it took 13 innings and a walkoff HR for the Padres to snap the Mets 5 game winning streak with a 4-3 walkoff win. The second batter of the game Joc Pederson deposited the first Lance Lynn pitch delivered to him deep into the second deck in right field to give the Padres an early 1-0 lead. However, the struggling Mets third baseman Evan Longoria would tie the game up in the top of the 2nd with a solo shot to left off of Adam Wainwright to tie the game up at 1-1.

Wainwright who originally was going to have his start skipped showed no real ill effects of a sore forearm. With the Padres clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 7th the Mets managed two more runs off of Wainwright off of back to back singles to give the Mets a 3-2 lead after 7 innings of play. Wainwright would finish the 8th still trailing 3-2, his final line on the day was 8.0 IP 6 H 3 R 3 ER 1 BB 1 K.

The Padres would manufacture a run in the bottom of the 8th after pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson stole 2nd and then scored on a Howie Kendrick single up the middle to tie the game up at 3-3. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 13th inning. With 1-out Joc Pederson would strike again with a moon shot to right off the Mets Joba Chamberlain to give the Padres a 4-3 walkoff win.

"I got two fastballs I could handle today. I think I'm officially out of my early season funk." -- Joc Pederson, San Diego Padres

The final game of the 4 game series and the 7 game homestand goes Sunday afternoon with the Padres sending Aaron Sanchez (4-1, 2.13) to face the New York Mets right-hander David Phelps (1-3, 2.25).

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 32 - New York Mets (15-14) at San Diego Padres (19-12)

Padres fans were treated to an old fashioned Sunday afternoon pitchers duels with the Mets David Phelps and the Padres Aaron Sanchez trading goose eggs through 6 innings of play. But in the bottom of the 7th the Padres finally rallied for some runs. A lead-off Jorge Soler double, followed by a James McCann single, and then with the infield in Howie Kendrick singled up the middle to the Padres a 1-0 lead and forcing David Phelps out of the game. The next batter, Adam Duvall blooped a single to right loading the bases. The Padres chose to pinch hit for Sanchez sending the struggling Ichiro Suzuki to the plate. Ichiro then would drill a 1-2 hanging slider just over the wall in right field for a Grand Slam home run and giving the Padres a 5-0 lead.

The grand slam closed the book on the Mets David Phelps, his final line was 6.0 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 1 BB 7 K's, while the Padres Aaron Sanchez's night was over as well, his final line was 7.0 IP 4 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 7 K's. The Mets would manage to put up a 3 spot in the 9th inning but Roberto Osuna would come in with two outs and close the door to record his 7th save of the season in the 5-3 win.

"I have been hitting balls hard right at fielders. This time I decided to hit it over the wall." -- Ichiro's Interpreter, San Diego Padres

The Padres end their homestand 5-2 and improve their home record to 11-8 on the season. San Diego now heads to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs in a 3 game series, kicking off a 7-game road trip. The Monday night match-up has the NL Leader in wins, the Cubs Aaron Nola (6-0, 1.23) facing the Padres undefeated lefty Brandon Finnegan (4-0, 1.76).

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 33 - San Diego Padres (20-12) at Chicago Cubs (22-10)

Solo shots were the theme of the day in this one as the Mets Aaron Nola and the Padres Brandon Finnegan kept scoring and hits fairly scarce in this one. The Padres struck first in the top of the 2nd with a solo HR off the bat off Matt Wieters who extends his season hitting streak to 9-games with the homerun to right field.

An inning later the Cubs would strike back with no doubter solo shot to left off the bat of Ketel Marte to tie the game up at 1-1 after 3 innings of play. Both pitchers would settle in from there with Brandon Finnegan of the Padres out of the game in the 8th due to his high pitch count. This was a result of just a great outing from Finnegan, his final line 7.2 IP 7 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 12 K's (his season and career high in strikeouts).

Meanwhile the Cubs ace Aaron Nola would get pulled in the 9th after after giving up a 2-out solo HR off the bat of the red hot Padre Joc Pederson. Nola's final line was 8.2 IP 4 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 8 K's. The solo HR to dead centerfield gave San Diego a 2-1 lead and SD reliever Fernando Rodney would improve his record to 3-0 out of the pen and Roberto Osuna would pick up his 8th save of the season.

"I feel like we are starting to really roll now. It's fun when you can eek out a 1-run game, it's what teams need to do if they want to make the Post-Season." -- Andy Greene, San Diego Padres Manager

San Diego is looking to extend the winning streak to 4-games and remain hot winning 7 of their last 10 ballgames. Game 2 of the series has the Chicago Cubs sending 37-year old veteran John Lackey (2-2, 2.23) to face the Padres 42 year old vet Bartolo Colon (2-3, 3.83). The Padres are now 1st in the NL west with 1/2 game lead over the 2nd place LA Dodgers. Meanwhile the Cubs remain in 1st in the NL Central with an early comfortable lead of 5 games over the 2nd place Milwaukee Brewers.

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 34 - San Diego Padres (21-12) at Chicago Cubs (22-11)

The wind at Wrigley Field was blowing out to left and the visiting San Diego Padres took full advantage. Already up 1-0 from a Freddie Freeman solo homer in the top of the first, Jorge Soler smashes a 2-run shot to left off John Lackey to give San Diego a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. Things did not get better for John Lackey in the 3rd inning with a run already in Matt Wieters smashes a 3-run HR to left making it 7-0 Padres. The very next better, Ryan Flaherty smashes a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left for back to back jacks and ending John Lackey's day, his final line, 2.1 IP 7 H 8 R 8 ER 1 BB 1 K dropping his record to 2-3 on the season.

Carlos Gomez had a bases-loaded clearing double in the bottom of the 6th to get the Cubbies on the board. Bartolo Colon would be done after surviving the 6th inning grabbing a blowout win, his line 6.0 IP 8 H 3 R 3 ER 3 BB 6 K's. Kris Bryant added another run in the 8th off with a solo HR to dead center and giving the Padres a total of 5 HR's on the day.

"It seemed like everything we hit today went out of the park!" - Matt Wieters, San Diego Padres

The Padres will be looking for the road sweep on Wednesday night sending Daniel Norris (1-5, 4.42) to the mound to face the Cubs Cody Anderson (5-1, 3.35).

Game 35 - San Diego Padres (22-12) at Chicago Cubs (22-12)

The hometown Cubbies avoid the home sweep in emphatic fashion by tallying 12 runs on a whopping 16 hits to take the final game of the series 12-4. Chicago did not wait long to pounce on the Padres struggling left Daniel Norris. He was tagged for 3 runs in the 2nd, 4 more runs in the 3rd, and an end of his miserable night occurred in the 4th after giving up another 2 runs, his final line was 3.2 IP 10 H 9 R 8 ER 0 BB 3 K's dropping him to 1-6 on the season.

The Cubs Justin Upton lead the attack finishing the day 3 for 5 with a 2B, HR and matching his career high 6 RBI's for the 3rd time (previously done in May 20, 2009, http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...00905202.shtmland May 24, 2015 http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...01505240.shtml.

The Padres travel north to take on the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night sending Adam Wainwright (3-2, 2.22) to the mound to face the Brewers Masahiro Tanaka (2-3, 3.09). San Diego is 7-3 in their last 10 games remaining tied for 1st in the NL West, while Milwaukee is only 3-7 in their last 10 and in the midst of a 4-game losing streak sitting 3rd place in the NL Central 6 games behind the first place Cubs.
