Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 53 - San Diego Padres (35-17) at Seattle Mariners (24-26)

The Padres get off to another hot start with Joc Pederson smashing a 3-HR into the upper deck in right field off a 2-1 hanging curveball from the hand of Jacob DeGrom to give the Padres an early 3-0 lead after a half inning of play.

That would be all of the offense the young Padres lefty Brandon Finnegan would need on the day as he would keep the hometown Mariners off balance and off the board on the day pitching his 2nd complete game shutout on the season. His final line 9.0 IP 7 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 8 K's and benefiting from 5 double plays on the day to improve his record to 7-1 on the season.

"McCann called a great game today and when the offense spots you a lead it inspires you to nail down the win." - Brandon Finnegan, San Diego Padres

The inter-league series now shifts to San Diego for 2 games. The Mariners march out Collin McHugh (4-2, 3.04) to take on the ageless wonder Bartolo Colon (5-3, 3.90).

[i]Notes: The Padres finish the month of May with a 21-8 record (11-5 on the road, and 10-3 at home). San Diego now leads the NL West by 3.5 games over the Colorado Rockies.

[i]Down on the Farm: The El Paso Chihuahuas (AAA) are in 2nd place in the PCL Pacific South division sittin 1.0 GB from the leading Las Vegas 51s and Albuquerque Isotopes. Closer Cam Bedrosian has 14 Saves and 23K's in 19.2 IP of work for El Paso. The San Antonio Missions (AA) also sit in 2nd place in the Texas League South trailing the Corpus Christi Hooks by 1.0 games. CF Boog Powell leads the Texas League with a .331 batting average.

Game 54 - Seattle Mariners (24-27) at San Diego Padres (36-17)

After getting behind early on an RBI triple from Ichiro in the bottom of the 2nd to give the Padres the 1-0 lead the Mariners decided they had enough. The next inning Mark Trumbo smashes a Bartolo Colon slider just inside the foul pole and into the 3rd deck and of the Western Metal Supply Company seating to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead.

Bartolo Colon would never settle down after that giving up 4 runs the 4th inning capped off by a Kyle Seager no doubter 2-run HR to RF to give the Mariners a 7-2 lead after four innings of play and ending the night for Colon. His final line on the night was 4.0 IP 8 H 7 R 7 ER 0 BB 2 K's.

"A great start to the month. I'm hoping this kicks starts us for a good June" - Mark Trumbo, Seattle Mariners

The Padres would chip away with Carlos Correa homering in the 5th to deep CF and then again in the 7th which was a back to back shot after a Jerrod Dyson solo shot to RF which cut the lead to 7-5 after 7 innings of play. But the Mariners bully shut the door the rest of the way for the win.

The final game of the home and home series goes thursday night with a couple of struggling lefties matching-up with Daniel Norris (3-7, 5.16) of the Padres taking on Carlos Rodon (1-4, 5.22).

Injury Note: Adam Wainwright has begun throwing on the side and is expected to make his scheduled start on Friday night vs the Colorado Rockies.

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 55 - Seattle Mariners (25-27) at San Diego Padres (36-18)

The Padres Daniel Norris and Mariners Carlos Rodon battled each other through the rain with each pitcher holding the others offense to only 2 runs each an a no-decision.
Rodon's final line 6.0 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 5 BB 3 K's, and Norris's final line 6.0 7 H 2 R 2 ER 0 BB 6 K's.

The Mariners manage to take the lead in the 7th off a Kyle Seager bloop single to right-field but the lead was short lived. The bottom half of the 7th Kris Bryant smacks a 2-run HR to right field to give the Padres a 4-3 lead. Ryan Flaherty would provided some insurance in the 8th smashing a solo shot into the right field upper deck to extend the lead to 5-3.

Roberto Osuna would provided a 1-2-3 9th inning finishing with a three pitch strikeout and securing his 13th save of the season.

"A great start to the month. I'm hoping this kicks starts us for a good June" - Kris Bryant, San Diego Padres

The Colorado Rockies roll into to town for a 3-game weekend series. Game 1 marks the return of Adam Wainwright (6-3, 2.51) from an oblique injury that forced him out of the game early in his last start. He takes on the Rockies Charlie Morton (6-2, 2.44).

Notes: The 2017 Amatuer Draft was completed yesterday with the Padres selecting 6th overall and a total of 9 picks (7 rounds and 2 compensatory picks). The Padres made 18 year old 2B Steven Aviles their 1st Rd Pick. The Padres completed the draft selecting 2 Second Basemen, 2 Outfielders, 3 Relievers, 1 Starting Pitcher, and 1 Catcher.

Re: 2016 - San Diego Padres - Fantasy Draft Franchise

Game 56 - Colorado Rockies (33-21) at San Diego Padres (37-18)

The San Diego crowd was treated to a strong pitching duel as the Rockies Charlie Morton and the Padres Adam Wainwright matched zeros for the first 6 innings of play. The Rockies threatened in the top of the 7th with the bases loaded and only 1-out but Carlos Correa wade a diving stop on a hard hit grounder to SS that he was able to toss to 2nd and get Howie Kendrick to turn the double play to get out of the jam.

That play must have fired up the offense as in the bottom of the 7th Freddie Freeman smacks a solo shot to CF for a 1-0 lead. Morton then walks Joc Pederson leading to a Ryan Flaherty no doubter to the upper deck in RF for a 3-0 lead and ending the Rockies starters night. Morton's final line 6.0 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER 3 BB 3 K's lowering his record to 6-3 on the season. Wainwright would come short of the complete game shutout and have to leave in the 9th with 1 out and two runners on base. His final line was 8.1 IP 8 H 0 R 0 ER 3 BB 5 K's improving his season record to 7-2. Roberto Osuna came in and recorded a strikeout and a pop-out to secure his 14th save.

"I felt loose out there today. The oblique tightness wasn't there. Our trainers have me on a good stretching program so hopefully that's the end of it" - Adam Wainwright, San Diego Padres

The great pitching match-ups between the 1st and 2nd place teams in the NL West continue in Game 2 with the Colorado Rockies sending Jake Arrieta (5-1, 1.90) to the mound to take on the Padres red hot young phenom Aaron Sanchez (8-2, 1.77).
