Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

Martin Grand Slam Sparks Hit Parade, Mariners Win 9-2

SEATTLE -- Leonys Martin was hitting just .152 with 2 RBIs coming into Friday's series opener against the Texas Rangers. Martin then proceeded to drive in 5 runs, 4 on a grand slam, and improve his average to .216 with 2 more hits to boost the Mariners over the Rangers by the score of 9-2.

The entire team's bats came alive today as the Mariners managed to rack up 9 runs on 12 hits and 5 walks. LF Jarrod Dyson would go 2-5 on the day with a triple, driving in 2 runs of his own. In a controversial call at the plate, Dyson was called out while trying to score on a wild pitch. Replays show Dyson getting his hand in before the tag was applied, but the call was not overturned.

Felix Hernandez made his home debut and was spectacular. Despite using a lot of pitches, he gave the Mariners another quality start, this time going 6.0 IP, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and striking out 8. The Rangers would only manage to get one more base hit the rest of the day after Hernandez was pulled.

Do readers think I should put the picture of the post game menu at the top of the post below the title? Feedback appreciated!

Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

Hit Parade Continues, Iwakuma Pitches Gem, Mariners Win 9-0

SEATTLE -- The Mariners have had a perfect storm of offense and defense in the first 2 games of the 3 game series between them and the Texas Rangers.

Today's game would mirror yesterdays as the Mariners would score 9 runs on 12 hits. They would jump out to a lead in the 1st inning, thanks in part to a 2 run homer off the bat of LF Jarrod Dyson, and there was no looking back. 2B Robinson Cano would go yard in the 5th, and 2 batters later 3B Kyle Seager would do the same.

Seattle SP Hisashi Iwakuma would be on cruise control the entire game, going the distance, pitching a complete game shutout while only giving up 3 hits and striking out 6. He is 2-0 on the year sporting a 1.96 ERA.

Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

Mariners Fail to Complete Comeback, Drop Series Finale 3-2

SEATTLE -- The Mariners' bats came back down to Earth today as they only managed to score 2 runs off of 6 hits. In fact, Texas SP Cole Hamels shut the Marlins out for 8 straight innings. He was pulled in the bottom of the 9th as he failed to go all 9.

James Paxton would have another solid outing but would receive the loss today as the offense failed to produce any runs for him. Paxton's record changed to 1-1 on the year as he went 6 innings pitched, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7. Paxton would also walk 2.

The Mariners' would rally in the 9th, scoring 2 runs off of a Nelson Cruz single to left field, but would fail to tie the game after CP Sam Dyson replaced Hamels. Dyson would get his 3rd save of the year as the Mariners would fall to 7-6 on the year.

Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

Gallardo Blanks Fish, Ms Win 3-0

SEATTLE -- Mariners' starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo would pick up his second win of the season today by out-dueling Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley (0-2). Gallardo would pitch 8 shutout innings while striking out 5, only managing to give up 2 hits and a walk. CP Edwin Diaz would relieve Gallardo to start the 9th, going on to pick up his 4th save of the season.

2B Robinson Cano would hit his 4th homerun of the year, a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the first, and the Mariners would not score again until the bottom of the 8th inning, when Jarrod Dyson and Nelson Cruz would drive in a run each. The Mariners improve their record to 8-6.

Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

Cano, Haniger Homer As Mariners Win 3-0

SEATTLE -- Seattle shut out the Miami Marlins for the 2nd time in as many nights as SP Drew Smyly picked up his first win of the season. Smyly seemed to have finally found a groove out on the mound as he pitched 6 strong shutout innings, striking out 5 while giving up 6 hits. The bullpen would throw 3 perfect innings and Edwin Diaz would get his 5th save of the season.

The Seattle offense tonight came from the bats of 2B Robinson Cano and RF Mitch Haniger. Cano would hit a 2 run home run to straight away center in the 1st inning after Leonys Martin hit a single to left field to start off the game. Cano has 5 home runs on the new year, and ties Nelson Cruz for most on the team. Rookie RF Mitch Haniger would add an insurance run with a solo homerun in the bottom of the 8th. This was Haniger's first homerun of the year.

Re: Rainy Days in Seattle - A Mariners Franchise

**Breaking; Cubs SP Brett Anderson Stable After Taking Line Drive Off Head

CHICAGO -- A scary moment took place over the weekend as Chicago Cubs
starting pitcher Brett Anderson took a line drive off the head in the first inning of the series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Anderson immediately went to the ground and laid there until the medical staff were able to get him off of the field and over to the nearest medical center.

Thankfully, MLB Network received word that after many tests, Brett Anderson is awake and moving, and is expected to make a full recovery. He has been diagnosed with a head fracture, and this will obviously keep the 8 year veteran pitcher off of the field for the remainder of the season.

At age 29, Anderson was 0-1 on the year with a 9.64 ERA. He will become a free agent after this season.
