Re: Baseball's Next Great General Manager-The Career of Robert Osmond
After starting the season 2-0, Marlins make/strike another trade
After starting he season 2-0 the Marlins strike their second trade on the season. Marlins defeated Nationals 7-0 behind Odorizzi's complete game shutout on Opening Day and then defeat the Nationals again in the second game of the year in extra innings by a score of 3-2. What has been an interesting note to start the season is that Martin Prado didn't start either game. When asked about this Marlins' GM, Robert Osmond, said that, "Prado hasn't started either game because the team is attempting to trade him and don't want to run the risk of injury." When asked why he wants to trade Prado, Osmond was quoted as saying, "I just want to get his contract off the books and open up money/cap space to spend elsewhere." Marlins later agreed to send 3B Martin Prado (Age 33, 77OVR, C Potential) to the New York Yankees for 3B Chase Headley (Age 32, 75OVR, C Potential) and RP prospect Dillon Tate (Age 22, 57OVR, B Potential). When asked about trade Osmond stated, "getting Prado's remaining three years off the books was the goal. Headley will fill in at third base for the reminder of the season and potentially the 2018 season as he is under contract for 2 years instead of 3 like Prado but the team will address the third base position better come the offseason as players like Todd Frazier and Mike Moustakas could potentially be available in free agency. Finally, acquiring Tate was the ultimate reason for the trade and the agreement to swap Prado for Headley as in Tate we have just acquired a young relief pitcher with good upside/potential." Osmond lastly stated, "that in a corresponding move and to make room for Dillon Tate the team has released RP Clayton Mortensen and that Tate will thus take Mortensen's spot on the Double-A team in the bullpen."
